When is the last time you heard of a video game not being released for fear that it is too over the top even for hardcore gamers? That’s the take by Hideo Kojima on the possible non-release of his latest game, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes.

it would seem that Kojima may be returning to the subject of child soldiers in his new game. In a time when violent video games are being more closely scrutinized – and publicized – than ever, Kojima may be right that his game can’t release in its current incarnation.

I hope he doesn't.

The reveal gameplay trailer looked incredible.

This sounds like a marketing ploy to me.

This.

Also hard core gaming != gratuitous violence (necessarily).

Hard core gaming can include Plants vs. Zombies. It's about gaming as a hobby, not a distraction.

Hollywood makes a movie involving child soldiers = Instant awards and nominations. Nightly talk shows to discuss the nature of how this film reflects on reality.

Game industry makes a game involving child soldiers = Locked down, barred from release, and heavily scrutinized. Game devs possibly losing their project (and jobs) entirely.

Ah, double standards...always fun.

I've seen this before but still can't believe it's a PS3 title...which if I'm not mistaken I believe all the footage and gameplay we've seen has been on a PC.

Either way, just release the game man...don't be a bitch.

Hideo Kojima had better not disappoint. I hope he releases MGS:GZ in all its glory. Screw the tree-hugging pansies.

Can't wait for Ground Zeros. Metal Gear Rising is crap, its not metal gear to me. I hope he continues to develop it :)

At this point I'm assuming everyone who said "high end PC specs" was referring to a PS4 dev kit.

Even though it's not that high end.

I know, America is such a hypocritical fucking pussy.

Does this guy play anything outside of Japan? There have been mature themes in a lot of games for years. Maybe he could start making games not 20hr cut scenes with some gameplay in between. Metal Gear Solid was the last good Metal Gear game,

I will be so pissed off if this gets shelved. If people don't want to deal with adult themes, then they can not buy it and cower in their homes and leave the rest of us alone.

Rambo is considered an American hero, and the bad guys win. I imagine a story where bad guys get their comeuppance is more appealing than one where the pedophiles get away.

Metal Gear Solid has PLENTY of cinematics, you guys. Or did you forget?
Pointing out the possible haze of nostalgia doesn't exactly help the case. At best, it reveals that we might hate MGS too if it was released today.

It would make sense since in Rising

*Spoilers*
You are trying to prevent the capture and training of many children's minds just for that purpose
However if you listen to the dialog and project your own thoughts in to it a bit, its clear that the author is making a statement on war in general and is sick about it and tired of it.
*End Spoilers*

He may be at the point where he see's his own work as part of the problem not the solution.

It better not be. This is one of maybe 3 games in the entire world that I'm looking forward to. I will go to Japan and kick Kojima's ass.

Why do Metal Gear games have such shitty names?

Revengence
Ground Zeroes - WTF?
Social Ops

Not to mention the character names.
Solid snake
Liquid snake
Solidus snake
Revolver Ocelot

Does Kojima do a lot of drugs or something?

lol, I find humour in the metal gear series, with their odd names and such...

Metal Gear Soid 3: Snake Eater was an excellent game.

Metal Gear Solid 3 was the only Metal Gear Solid game (besides the Gameboy Color game) that I was able to play almost to completion. It was pretty cool, but the forced escort mission at the end was a bunch of bullshit. There were other parts about it that I wasn't very fond of either. To me, the scores Metal Gear Solid games seem inflated, and that's why I'm usually wary of games that get really high scores like that.

Looks amazing, though I don't see it running/looking like that on a PS3 or X360.

Pretty sure the movie about the book of Enders game, will feature a child beating to death another kid, and he's worried about child soldiers in this game, that's basically a movie in it's own right?

If this has something to do with the school shooting in Newtown, CT; people need to get the hell over it already. Absolutely ridiculous..

Two wrongs don't make a right.

But of course :D

And this:D

Metal Gear Soid 3: Snake Eater was an excellent game.

Snake Eater was pretty good. However, they seem to have more off the wall stuff as the series progressed taking away from the serious nature of some of the topics. Metal Gear Solid 4 was nothing but a movie as far as I'm concerned. They could have done a lot more to tell more of the story through actual gameplay.

I find this funny since you can easily beat MGS1 in 3 hrs. MGS4 will take you 5 hrs. That's rushing both of them only counting gameplay time, not cutscenes.

You know what I find even more disturbing than the representation of child soldiers? ACTUAL CHILD SOLDIERS. Jesus christ people, this shit already exists. This is art imitating life. Get your heads out of the sand. What possible fucking difference does it make if it is recreated in a game? If you have a problem with child soldiers, then go join amnesty international or something and do something about it.

What i find funny about this, He is a game maker who uses wargames to tell us how bad war is. With how he feels he must out do himself with this point, he decides to add the child soldiers content to his game, and now because of this, the game may not even come out.

Honestly, he is a hypocrite as well, he has been profiting from wargames while trying to tell us how bad it's subject matter is.

Fuck no, I want to see that thing released in complete line with Kojima's vision. The MG series has included the kind of poignant perspectives (mixed with a healthy assortment of Japanese flavour) that are rarely included in games about soldiers. So what if there are child soldiers in his newest game? Given his track record, there's likely to be a REASON for doing so, not just "Woo kids with guns, isn't that cool?!" - on the contrary, it is likely to be critical of the circumstances that lead to the creation of child soldiers.

Censorship is not an acceptable response.
