Just a quick question for you guys. Do you think the i7980X would hold back newer NVIDIA parts such as a GTX Titan?

I realize this maybe sounds sort of ridiculous, but if anyone has any insight on this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Depends on clock speeds and the game in question.

In SLI, you might actually see some benefit moving to PCI-E 3.0. That is what I would be most inclined to upgrade for.

I'll let ya know in a few weeks. I plan on ordering two cards. I would think it would not be an issue right now for us with 980x parts. it is still a damned fast processor still when doing rendering and such. I am looking forward to the CUDA stuff because of that.

You're mostly going to be fine with that OC then, so long as you run high resolution to let those cards open up.

As the previous poster said, the higher the resolution, the more these cards can operate (Your CPU doesn't really matter at the upper end)

I moved from a 920 to a i5 3570k and it was a massive increase across the board. The new mobo afforded me SATA III, 1600mhz ram bus native, PCIE 3.0 and USB 3.0. I run everything at stock so it is comparable if you overclock on both sides.

So in other words, I just wouldn't consider only the video card depending on your current mobo features.
