dad purchased a new boat chart-plotter and it has optional output to connect to other display devices (eg, a tv in the gallery).

it appears his tv does not support the output resolution of the chart-plotter, and is looking at options (eg, video converter).

the plot-charter video-out is DVI and his tv input is HDMI. he has purchased a dvi-i --> to --> hdmi cable to connect the two devices.

i am not sure of the supported resolutions.

this is the video converter he is looking at purchasing:

can anyone provide any insight on this scenario? is this a sufficient product to function as video resolution converter, or is there something better/more cost-effective on the market ?

it's not with respect to a monitor - it's with respect to the chart-plotter outlined in the original post.

i am not physically there - but my dad said he was simply not getting any signal when connecting the chart-plotter to his television. hence, assuming may be a resolution issue.

I think I understand what you're saying, but after that last comment now i'm not completely sure.

you said: "...it appears his tv does not support the output resolution..."
and I assumed you meant the boat device is outputting a resolution that the tv doesn't handle, am i incorrect?

I would highly recommend you find some way for your dad to test it before buying adapters you might not need. Try any other tv or monitor in the house. Stop by the local bestbuy and plug it into one of their display monitors.

Many monitors will actually display a message if they're getting signal but the signal is unsupported.
