Corsair TX650 From the egg

I recently ordered the TX650 v2 from the egg to replace my current 550w coolermaster so i can bump up to an i5 and a 7850, now my question is, reading through the reviews on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=3#scrollFullInfo) and other pages, lead me to believe, as of recently people are still receiving the v1 psu claiming that the v2 is discontinued and they no longer stock it.

However, a quick search to Corsairs product page turns up the still in stock and offered v2 psu (http://www.corsair.com/us/power-sup...d-650-watt-high-performance-power-supply.html) here.

I have 2 questions, 1) If it is indeed a v1 should I be worried? (how well built is this psu?) and 2) Does anyone know anything about the people claiming the model has been discontinued?

I usually read Johnnyguru PSU reviews but they unfortunately (from my searches) haven't reviewed either of these.

Thanks!

Both V1 and V2 are solid units.

The V2 is better in every way as compared to the V1. I would return it right away if I got a V1 instead of a V2, since it is an inferior PSU.

if you ordered that one you should be getting the V2 newegg has the V1 listed as a separate item.

Supposedly the V2 is an improvement ... I have a TX650W (V1) powering my ESXi server now ..it had been in my rig before I got my Seasonic X750. My V1 has been noise free and flawless for over 2yrs now.

Either one V1 or V2 are good... but if i was buying now I'd have got the V2 since it is improved and $10 cheaper than the V1.

My V1 was a clearance Item at bb so it cost me $50 sooo I won't complain about having a V1 :D (it was apparently clearance cause it was discontinued with the coming of the V2). My wife's computer is being run by a going on 5year old VX550W which has also just been flawless for the whole time I've owned it.

Well, I received the power supply less than 2 hours ago, checked the upc code to verify that it was the same item number corsair has listed on their rebate page and they matched up for v2. opened the box, installed it, thought nothing of it, for some weird reason i decided to pull the power supply out and check the 12v amperage as i noticed they were different on new eggs site and sure enough they put the 54a v1 in the v2 labeled upc box.

That's because Corsair discontinued the V1 and V2 models. They've switched OEMs and are now using CWT instead of Seasonic. So what you got was right.

what doe the model number say on the sticker on the psu?

it would be freaking weak / sketchy if newegg or corsair put a v1 in a v2 box... was the box sealed?

do the serial numbers match on the box and the unit?

cause yeah the v1 is 54A on the 12V rail and the v2 cwt one is 53A

Well if you're correct (as it seems you are)

It states that the CWT version I have is not 80+ Bronze certified, However, The box, newegg, and everything else tells me the model I bought is in fact certified, was this another decietful act that corsair/newegg made or am I just misunderstanding?

I actually didn't grab the model number on it I'll peel it out later and post it, its just a pain in the ass to take out of my case due to the surrounding housing

And the unit didn't come with a serial number, however the S/N on the box matches Corsairs rebate form for the v2.

Yeah I noticed that RealHardTech X marked it as not certified. But I think they are getting it confused with the older models which didn't test for 80+ Plus certification. Maybe try sending RHT X an email and see if they can change the labeling on their website. It would be rare to see a large company as Corsair to fake a labeling as such.

Not to imply that I think that RHTX is a reputable site, as I've never heard of them, However they are the only place I've seen any information about the shipped unit as opposed to the other 5 versions of the tx650 out there.
I sent an email to them, And I also noticed that the CWT PUQ (B) 650w that I'm assuming shares the same body as the Corsair has the 80+ cert.

Thanks for clarifying things for me a bit SolidBladez!

Yes, both the v1 and the v2 have been discontinued. The currently shipping version of the TX650 is now based on the CWT PUQ(B) platform. In fact, Corsair is now no longer using Seasonic in any of its mid-level PSUs. The currently shipping TX line is now using PSU platforms manufactured by CWT and Chicony Power Technology (formerly Hipro).

Just as an update as to the Certification of this PSU

An email from Jose Romero over at RHTX states:

"The 80 Plus certification is conducted by an independent laboratory called Ecos Consulting. As you can read on its website: http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80PlusPowerSuppliesDetail.aspx?id=25&type=2 , the new TX650 is not ALREADY 80 Plus Bronze Certified (anyway, considering the platform used, it will).
Corsair did internal tests proving that the power supply pass the ECOS Consulting tests so will get the 80 Plus Bronze certification. But only when the brand has sent the power supply to an ECOS Consulting’s laboratory and the unit has passed the tests, the unit gets the efficiency certificate. In this case Corsair includes this certificate on the power supply and on its website before getting it so, during a period of time, the product presents an unauthorized 80 Plus Bronze certification."

Well that sucks, Like I said earlier, I wanted this cause I thought it was a seasonic PSU lol. Thanks for the info!

the V2 is the better unit as its hardware is made by seasonic , I believe the v1 was made by CWT. V2 would def be the one you want, also the corsair HX650 is a seasonic unit.

additonal note on the HX650, it is a gold certified unit as well as being seasonic hardware.

V1=CWT, no longer made.
V2=Seasonic-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006
V3=Chicony-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021

Only the V2 Seasonic is stocked on the Corsair website, they do not stock the V1 or V3.

On Newegg the Seasonic is the CMPSU-750TX and the V3 is the TX750 V2, the V1 is discontinued.

Look at the fan grill, if it's held in place by 4 screws, it's the Chicony, if it's straight and runs into the PSU casing, it's a Seasonic.

This is only for the 750W and 850W versions of the TX. The 650W version had two different V1s: The original Seasonic-based V1 and the revised CWT-based V1 (occasionally dubbed TX650C). The V2 has always been Seasonic, while the V3 (not marketed as such) went back to CWT for the 650W version.

Newegg messed up the product lisitngs on their website. ALL of the inventory that Newegg has is actually the newest V3. The unit now has the fanless mode.

Wow Newegg, way to drop the ball on that one.

Though, Amazon is almost as confusing as well: Are they selling the V3 as well but under the same name as the TX650?
