Aside from loitering, what would you actually do in a Google store?

An extremely reliable source has confirmed to us that Google is in the process of building stand-alone retail stores in the U.S. and hopes to have the first flagship Google Stores open for the holidays in major metropolitan areas.

This isnt a horrible idea. I have been to the Apple and Microsoft stores in the Bellevue Square mall in WA and not once have I bought a product there. But I have purchased several products from both companies and learned about new products while there.

This is just a way for Google to get people to test out their products. So its a win even if the store doesnt turn a profit.

Nothing maybe play with new nexus device, will be interesting to see what they offer from an experience perspective.

That is what I think the big three are aiming for, getting some product out there so people can get actual eyes on instead of seeing a picture or video online.

What would you do? Are you kidding. This place would be awesome. Besides the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, the Nexus 4 and many other phones, Chrome Books, Glass tons of software and services. Yeah. Affordable hardware unlike Apple and cool software and services unlike Microsoft .. Win / Win

And lest we forget...

Well since I got the missus a Chromebook for our anniversary, I'd be looking at the phones to replace my S2 (if there is anything better to replace it).

Ads. You'd buy ads.

That's all they actually sell. Everything else: delivery mechanisms for more ads. That's why they don't fix bugs. You've got their ad spigot, so fuck you. What? they totally replaced the media stack in the last update? Have fun waiting three months for apps to catch up. Oh! You want to use Bluetooth for music AND calls? ROFL! Silly user!

Yes. I'm bitter. But they're still better than iOS. WP8? Apps. They need the apps. Get decent NAV and Pandora on WP8 and I'm there.

Use my google phone to price compare so I can buy it online cheaper. :D

Doesnt WP8 have nokia's NAV which people say is very good?

That's just an iLawsuit waiting to happen

Aint it

Have you been to a microsoft store?

They have one in a mall by me thats less than 100 feet away from the apple store and you'd swear they were designed by the same architect.

In the blog I pretend to write, I invented an unnamed insider source that said the Google store will have unusual entry procedures. Upon stepping into the door, you'll have to surrender your driver's license, credit cards, social security card, and birth certificate. After the documents are scanned and stored on a Google owned server, you'll be given a personality test and submitted to a series of questions to determine your personal preferences. After a brief cavity search, your identification and documents will be returned and you'll be escorted to a private room in which you're implanted with a GPS tracking device and given free Internet access with ads tailored to your personality and physical profile. Everything you do will be monitored and analyzed to better target you with ads while you're online. You'll be released so you can go to work to earn money, but obligated to return afterwards since they'll have taken control of all your apps, vehicle, property, and assets in a very non evil manner.

did everyone forget Google now owns Motorola. Between the chrome book, nexus devices and the Motorola lineup they could easily fill a store. if they throw in android devices from third party oems that's an awful lot of product.

a place where you could go to side by side compare tons of android devices would be nice.

I thought they already did this. Oh, I see... they haven't conducted the cavity searches yet!

What would I do in a Google store? Simple, search for shit to buy.

Does this mean we actually get a phone number for google support instead of a stupid post or email.

They actually do have a phone number for support and live chat for the play store. I ended up using the chat to not pay for long distance (I don't think the phone number is toll free).

The e-mail/ticket system is horrible though. I had a generic response and finally an actual person just e-mailed me back for a ticket from more than 2 weeks ago :p

If they display all Android products this could finally spell the end of Radio Shack.

I'm not seeing the down side to that. In five years I have been there twice and both times was because I couldn't find my arctic silver so I needed since on the spot.

The store will contain no actual products, instead everything will be digital reflective points. When you walk in you have to don a pair of google goggles which has the augment reality wrapper app on it. When you look at a digital point it will display the product and for everywhere else it there will be adds.

No idea if this is true :D

Anything you create, think, or otherwise author while inside the perimeter of said store becomes the irrevocable property of Google.

When the owners of Google decide to buy a sports team that's when you know it's time to dump the stock.

This would be awesome, goolge has enough products, and if they decided to sell 3rd party android phones as well (hopefully all unlocked versions) i think it could do well. Not to mention this would be the place I'd go to compare in person a bunch of phones lol.

Google already has 1 store open in Kansas City, MO to facilitate the Google Fiber rollout. They sell Google Fiber, Nexus Tablets, and Chromebooks there. No phones or other Google products yet.

It is an amazing store, however the associates are mostly college interns and very few of them have any technical knowledge of the product they are selling. I wanted to know some of the specifics of the Google TV boxes they would be giving away with the service, not one of them could answer my question regarding if the device could stream from network shares that weren't other Google TV boxes.

Interesting to note though, they will give each customer up to 4 TV boxes, each box is its own 802.11 a/b/n wireless hotspot, and they will network with each other using the existing coax cable in your house instead of using up ethernet ports on the router/modem or wireless (which may not have the range or bandwidth for HD depending on the building materials).

-edit, I meant to say 802.11 a/b/g/n. I didn't mean to leave out wireless G which is still incredibly popular. The boxes will support it.
