SilverStone Nitrogen NT06-Pro CPU Air Cooler Review - We are back today with another CPU air cooler that is designed for Small Form Factor desktop computer systems. CPU coolers in this niche have come a long ways in terms of performance over the years and SilverStone has pushed forward its new Nitrotgen Series design to be competitive in the market place.

Thank you for reviewing this cooler, Marc; I really wanted to see if it would earn the [H] stamp of approval before I put down cash.

NT06-Pro: 140mm (W) x 82mm (H) x 139mm (D) (WITH 20cm (H) undermount fan)
AXP-100: L121.1 mm x W105.47 mm x H44.15 mm (WITHOUT overmounted fan)

Yes,the NT06-P is larger all the way around. What the reviewer may have been referring to is that there is 52 mm of clearance between the bottom of the NT06-P heatsink and the CPU with an overmount fan. A quick google doesn't find me the clearance between the bottom of the AXP-100 and the CPU, but I'd say it's far less than that.

If you really need a LOW profile cooler, Scythe Kozuti and Noctua L9 are probably your best options, both at or below 40mm in height WITH their fans.

I wanted to build a asus gene z mobo into a apieva qpack-2 case with an 3770k, if this type of fan would be good enough for it.

Will this fit in that case if anyone cant find the clearance specs for that case due to how the psu is mounted inside it. what the video card would work. gxt670 or amd 6950

I'm curious why they felt the need to call it the Nitrogen series.
Are the pipes actually filled with nitrogen as the thermal fluid?
I thought I'd have seen this information in the article.

Certainly would be interesting if it had nitrogen... it's Nitrogon, not nitrogen.

I like how you (whoever wrote the article) used the word seized in the the Botton Line section .

Would be nice if these reviews were done in an ITX setup which is the intended market.

Things like PCI-e clearance would be good to see.

Here's the quote from the article. It's just plain wrong.

The article is being updated.

The unit is larger all around than the AXP-100.

I was mistaken in those lines as I was thinking of the the extra space underneath the SilverStone unit being available for a fan and wrote something separate.

My mistake.

I've just recently built my SFF with the NT06-Pro. Trying to fit it all in a SG05 was quite a pain, not to forget having a Galaxy GTX680 in there too! This was all on a AsRock Z77E-ITX coupled with Corsair Low Profile RAM.
Clearance off the RAM was about 2mm, the GTX680 had about 2mm from the heatpipes and the case. I only had to shave about 1.5mm off the plastic standoffs of the backplate as it interfered with the back mPCI-E slot. I'd dread taking it apart but its a beauty as is :D

In terms of noise, having it on full is rather audible but I can hardly hear it over the GTX680 (they are by no means loud) by setting on minimum.

Really nice compared to the axp-100...too bad I can't fit this in my elite 120..about 20mm too tall :-( guess I'll just wait for the Thermalright to be more available

Hopefully the mini itx and mATX markets will pick up with air coolers designed to complement these small form factors. This is a niche market which is just begging to be explored by manufactures and provide end users high performance air cooling solutions to impliment in small performace systems.
