After having its website design copied by an anti-piracy group, The Pirate Bay actually said this:

“We are outraged by this behavior. People must understand what is right and wrong. Stealing material like this on the internet is a threat to economies worldwide,” a Pirate Bay spokesman told TorrentFreak. “We feel that we must make a statement and therefore we will sue them for copyright infringement,” the spokesman adds.

 I am laughing on the inside... but I think I need to pick my jaw up before I can laugh out loud at this.

Sounds to me like they're going to dabble in the dark side and play the troll, as so many other companies do.

Good on them lol

Funny on so many levels. So not only are the anti-piracy groups some of the biggest downloaders (for research of course), now they are stealing website designs. So, either PB wins and the anti-piracy group has to pay them (betting the fine would be some small amount not in line with other rulings) or they lose and basically have the courts rule that copyrights aren't enforceable. Either way it is a win. Brilliant.

Yep, totally funny, of course the lawyers always win, even if the case is lost in court.

I suggest a punishment starting at no less than $10,000 per line of code copied. We need these sorts of harsh punishments to deter illegal copyright thieves.

The article was so funny I read it again and laughed some more. :p

I hope they go through with the lawsuit. If they win it'll help pay off some of the hefty fines they've acquired.

It's win-win. If they win the suit, they get money. If they lose the suit, they get a precedent stating that copyrights are invalid in at least one country.

i just hope that in some future case, pirate bay's over the top arguments about copyright infringement dont get used against them.

That is kind of funny.

My first question would be, what kind of retards on the anti-piracy site thought it would be a good idea to steal someone elses code for their design, let alone from a site they are opposed to? I guess they dont have anyone who knows how to code html?

You guys got trolled. They are clearly not serious, and are pointing out how stupid the whole thing is.

Didn't think of that but awesome, no? But I doubt the government or any anti piracy group would care about the hypocrisy.

I think they're trolling the anti-piracy group. I doubt they really care about the site issues. Unless you were implying it is ironic that an anti-piracy group was pirating.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I would do it on this basis. Fucking brilliant idea.

"we want the same amount, we owe for our legal problems, maybe a million or two more for spare change".
