It's a SciFi/Western/Fantasy MMO. The graphics are very stylized, kinda WoWish, which I guess is good or bad depending on what you prefer.

There's housing from the beginning which you'll see in one of the video's I posted. I'm pretty sure they have the traditional raids and Open World PvP too.

The video's should explain a bit more. If you like MMO's like me then you should be excited, I know I am.

On paper sounds great with the game features and especially the theme.

Graphically looks like a WoW clone, yuck.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yea, the looks are stylized like WoW's, but I don't think it'll be like WoW.

Here's a quote from the Executive Producer:

(Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney ) was asked what sets this MMO apart from the pack.
Gaffney had a laundry list in reply, saying that the largely ex-Blizzard team's motto is, "We just crunched for six years, we want to do anything but WoW."

Layered content is a big buzz-phrase for WildStar, and Gaffney attempted to provide an example of the game's flexibility. "You're on a mission to kill alien jungle cats. You see one that's irradiated and start scanning it. Or it's too tough, so you scare some prey away from you into the cats, and they start attacking the prey, and then you jump in when everyone is weakened. They're tough, so you see a huntress and drag them to her to get her cheering on for rep -- you see a second huntress and now you're bouncing between them for double rep rewards."

looks interesting, any idea when it's coming out?

The combat (th eway you have to constantly change up things) sounds and looks good, but how does the actual combat controls work? Is it actiony based/player skill focused, or is it your usual hotkey spamming abilities?

I love the art style, and i love the fact there will be player housing, I have so missed player housing in mmo's. the last House i had was a Villa in UO and i later sold it for a little over 100 when i stoped playing UO lol

Just hope it is f2p, or something like GW2 were u just buy the game but no subs. I already pay for WOW and SWTOR dont think i want to pay for a 3rd lol

I think the release date is late 2013 early 2014, so about a year away.

I've heard it's going to be the GW2 model.

Updated news today, they are looking to release this year, and some more classes/races.

Copying wow style is one thing, but so much of that looks exactly like WoW, it hurts.

yeah the environment looks identical to wow. the gameplay is intriguing and i think that it is trying to differentiate itself from wow, but people also have to remember that wow has defined what people expect from mmos, complaining about similarities to wow is a bit like complaining that there are guns in every shooter. the fact of the matter is that there arent any decent pve mmos out there right now other than wow, so any competition is welcome in my book and if it happens to capitalize on what wow did correctly it doesnt bother me one bit.

I'm actually going to test it out this upcoming week.

Nice :D. I actually just read up some about it, since I hadn't heard much of it at all until recently. It definitely sounds interesting, though I'm finding sparse info on PVP The idea of competitive raids and Warplots (pvp areas you build yourself) sounds amazing though!

Yea, I'm pretty excited my self. The warplots sound pretty cool. I was kinda bummed that they are instanced, but can deal with that. Come this Wednesday we will know the Dominion race's and some new classes!

Mmmmm, it really does have a lot of potential on paper though. And yeah, it sounds from the bits of info I google'd up that there is going to be large-scale PVP too, though it's unclear if that's instanced or not. I'm hoping they'll reveal more PVP info soon.... especially hoping for good non-instanced PVP.

Warplots are Carbines "Battlegrounds" so I'm hoping they have some juicy open world PvP lined up.

Same here... the instanced ideas sound good, but I'm having trouble digging much of anything up on the open-world PVP other than that it exists. Warplots sound amazing since they can be player customized and tie into player housing. I actually LOVE the idea since you won't be tied to a small handful of pre-done ones. The only game that had enough was WAR, and they mostly limited what ones you could do by your level unfortunately for much of the time I played.

Carbine has quite big ambitions for WS, so let's hope they can actually get them in the game.

Looks fine to me  . I prefer more realistic styles but it does the job and looks great for what they intended.

I thought they were just the publisher....

Like EA is "just" the publisher? So the publisher lets the design team do whatever the hell they want?

A publisher alone doesn't necessarily have any power if all they are doing is handling retail distribution/etc. The Secret World is wholly controlled by Funcom even though EA publishes it. Now, if they're an investor in the game as well, that's different, because they then have say in how the game is managed ;).

Doesn't publisher = investor? Afaik, publishers usually funds the game. If not in total, at least in partial. At least that is how I thought it was.

Not always. A publisher can fund the game, and often does, though. I don't know what NCsoft's relationship is here, and whether they're just a distribution partner in the publishing deal, or are also funding development. However, just knowing they're the publisher doesn't tell us for sure.

Thanks for the in-depth analysis and thoughts.

LOL...ok tiger, here goes...the art style does nothing for me and looks geared towards the pre-teen crowd

housing in the sky looks good but I never stay at home anyway

combat looks generic and boring

elder scrolls online looks way more interesting

bottom line..looks like a game for children/teenagers...I hope they enjoy it

Carbine is an NCsoft stuidio.

A publisher inherently just publishes games. However many publish (naturally) games in which they have ownership stakes in and thus have control. For example they can either own the studio or they own the IP. A publisher might not even actually publish a game they do have a direct stake in (most commonly they might use a different publisher for certain regions).

I'm concerned about the same things, but for Elder Scrolls :p. Hopefully neither of us are right then, eh ;)? Oh, and I hope you never played WOW, because it has the same type of art style ;).

Housing is a major thing that is one of the key features I'm excited for, especially with Warplots. Housing alone tends to make the community stronger, give a better sense of permanence in the game, provide a nice show-off place, be a good timewaster, etc., but Warplots (making PVP areas out of them) sounds really fun to me. Just ask any former DAOC or UO player how much housing added to those games. I rest my case ;).

What exactly does "generic and boring" combat look like? I hear that generic boilerplate complaint about every MMO...

I guess WOW was a game for children/teenagers, as were Borderlands, Rayman, and a large amount of popular megahits out there today. Good thing most of us don't have a pretentious concept of what is "adult" or not based off of color palettes. Besides, it didn't seem to bother you during the love-fest of prelaunch GW2 for their cutscenes... why would it now?
