The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

How does it run on your computer? I am curious since we have similar specs.

Runs it flawlessly 7/10.

when it WvW or in a very high populated zone/area it goes down to like 25fps.

That is on ultra maximum settingvs at 1200p res

I am a hardcore player in a hardcore WvW guild and we are still going strong. Every patch is a step forward in the right direction.

I love that they have monthly content patches and they seem to get better and better. For example, the halloween patch was the first big content patch and it added new pvp minigames (3), an insane jumping puzzle, a long traditional quest for a cool back piece that any class/level can use, and then it built up to a cool instance with an introduction cutscene. They added custom music for the halloween instances too! In November, they had the Karka event which was non-holiday, but it introduced an entire zone (with jumping puzzles etc), fractal dungeon - which can be done with any lvl character, and they had events leading up to a really long (3 hour?) boss event with extremely good rewards. In December, they changed their event system so people wouldn't miss the content that rolled out every day by preserving it all month, but it has been pretty impressive that they are still pumping out a ton of content and large bug fixes every week/month.

Are the halloween zones/quests/whatnot still available? Or are they only there for a short time? Like Could I log on now and go do them?

They have Christmas events going on right now :) but honestly it's kinda not worth it now.

which is a shame because the tower jumping puzzle was insanely addicting for me. and I have absolutely no reason why. I haven't played since the Halloween event

Finally finished the jumping puzzle for xmas. In hindsight, i can't believe i took 1.5 hrs to do it.

leveled one char to 10 and then decided i'd rather play a thief, which is now level 13 or 14.

not that deep into the game but i've played a handful of mmo's for years and years. i think gw2 is a logical progression in the genre. it seems to streamline a lot of the more mundane tasks that were present in most MMO's. if it had combat akin to Tera it would be an amazing game. tab target system is horribly outdated and makes the combat boring.

animations are great and graphics are pretty okay for a MMORPG.

So, I took a few months off. Now I have a friend who might get the game and is asking me about the Ranger... which is one of the classes I've never played. All I can remember is people complaining about terrible pet mechanics. Curious if they've improved that yet?

so after a month of not playing, I log in last night for some wvwvw action...the rendering issue still sucks in wvwvw..basically, its unplayable with invisible people..problem is actually worse now than a month ago.

try to log in today..can't...check my 'gaming' email account...got the email message that someone changed my email address..LMAO ..i was hacked !!!! LMAO !!! it happened at the same time I was logged on...go figure that one out..LOL

anyway, sent the ticket to customer service

man, this game just keeps getting worse and worse

i'll probably take it as a sign to stop playing ..LOL

Sometimes it is good to check your own security. I have ran 52 Gw1 accounts and a fleet of 10 Gw2 accounts without a single issue even using third party software and my own. So if you got hacked it is more than likely your own fault... That would be my conclusion if I didn't just think you were an outright troll.

they restored my account 14 hours after my initial ticket..I'd say thats outstanding customer service

now, if they could only fix the rendering problem in wvwvw..I read they are working on it but it worries me it even existed at all

anyone play on ehmry bay? i logged back onto my lvl 40 warrior and it looked pretty empty. i went back to the server screen and it says it was a very high population.

Just curious bc i wanted to get a max lvl toon for once on this game since i gave up a while ago.

If you have gold, just craft your way up. Maxing out a craft is about 10 levels. More or less depending if you have crafting booster

I play on Ehmry Bay and it really matters what part of the world you are in. WvW always has a decent crowd. PvE is a mixed bag. I still find enough people in low level zones, fractals, and dungeons. Many of the mid-level zones have always seemed to lack people. Since I mainly play WvW I have not PvE'd into the upper level zones yet so I can't tell you what the populations look like there.

In regards to the mid-level zones, I would imagine this is a GW2 problem in general because the mid-level materials are next to worthless on the TP. So, aside from world completion and story line, there is little incentive to revisit those zones.

At least for dungeons you're not tied down to playing with only people on your own server. You can use http://gw2lfg.com to find people from other servers. Really helps if your server doesn't have a lot of active players or are trying to farm an unpopular dungeon.

I really recommend the site vs going to Lion's Arch and looking for groups there. Based on experience, I end up pairing with better/more experienced people from the site when I run my daily ones, SE/AC/COF/COE. I have yet to try running Arah but from what I see, most people from the site have 2.5-3k achievement points which usually already know the drill on the dungeons as well.

By the way, does anyone here do anything else besides jumping puzzles for honor badges? I need like 488 more but I totally suck :(

Jumping puzzles are the quick and dirty way to get badges. Most people tend to gravitate towards eternal battlegrounds, so that's where you'll find the bigger zergs and the most badges. It isn't fast, but it's way more fun than grinding anything in the game.

This thread's been pretty quiet for awhile, I'm guessing everyone's too busy playing? It seems like the most recent update brought a lot of life into the game and I like a lot of the changes/tweaks. It's very easy to group and Orr is almost always packed (except at like 3AM).

I got a bit bored lately. After getting my Ascended rings and whatnot, I just log on to do the Daily now. I'm not going for legendary, don't care to amass countless gold, and really am not into wasting 1-2 hours in a Fractal since you need to sit through a series to get the credit for it. Other than that, everything else is quite 'eh' for me now.

Happens when you play a game a while... and a lot. I;m sure at some point I'll be into GW2 again.

Anyone playing on Northern Shiverpeaks? I just re-installed for the first time since September. Playing a new Warrior and looking for a casual guild to join.

I used to play World of Warcraft up until before MOP came out, how does this stack up against wow?
A few of my friends played the original GW but I never got in to it.
Don't know why.

Honestly, I cant speak from personal experience, due to never having played WoW.

However, what I can say honestly is that GW2 does not have any staying power, nor the same aesthetic or nostalgia of something such as WoW, which is a judgment I can make, having watched for countless years, how many people still play WoW.

There is nothing addictive about GW2, nor anything it offers that would cause such a draw to it, and quite the opposite, in actuality. It's just a pretty shell, beautiful on the outside, but empty on the inside. It's also inherently flawed in far too many ways, far too limiting and repetitive in ways that cannot be looked-over, due to it not really having anything that outshines the repetitive, empty feeling, and the constrictive and restrictive feelings of the skill system and even questing system.

For all it's "dynamic" world, it feels more dead and restrictive than a high quality corridor shooter, due to feeling limited in it's mechanics and almost completely aimless, empty in content and lacking in purpose. For all that "freedom" it was supposed to offer, it really just feels restrictive, and that you're playing the game the way the devs want you to play, which is not what gaming is supposed to be about. All the "fancy" things, such as skills being tied to weapons, and the supposedly "dynamic" quest events end up really just feeling like a leash around your neck.

It's also still, regardless of what was/is claimed, "kill ten rats". That would be fine, if the gameplay held out and both the world and gameplay didn't feel so choppy, blocky in it's own way, and make you feel you're just running in circles, running around really neither truly "doing" nor accomplishing anything.

In other words... it's incredibly beautiful to look at, but boring as fuck and, many times, pointlessly frustrating.

One thing I will say is it feels like there is no point in playing the game. What I mean by this is you don't need to level up your character all the way so you can start doing arenas or rated battlegrounds. That stuff is available right away. I also felt the pvp wasn't as entertaining as wow.

For as much as they touted no quests and dynamic events they sure were static and boring. Wow's standard quest system and dungeon finder seemed to be a more pleasant and entertaining ride to the level cap.

Basically take everything Anet promised and forget about it. Dynamic events are lame at best. They went and made the level cap so unimportant and went out of their way to make sure there was no end game whatsoever so what happens is theres absolutely no staying power, nothing to keep you there. You basically enjoy the ride to 80 as much as possible then game over reroll.

Like i said before its release you cant keep people without an end game so basically all you have in GW2 is just a big ass revolving door. Theres no real sense of community because people just dont stick with it. They level, get bored and leave.

For all the hell i took for my opinions, being called a troll over and over again everything i said sure came true and now most of this games defenders have had their bubbles popped and have already moved on.

This. Word for word.

Word for word for word... unfortunately.

Ironically, Anet hung themselves and strangled the life out of GW2, with all their intentions and the way the mechanics were implemented and played-out.

Both my self and my wife wanted GW2 to be what it seemed to offer, and we tried to play the hell out of it, but just couldn't do it, and it was a huge disappointment.

QFT. I'm with you, man. I was in the same situation, caught the flak, but in the end I/we/those of the same opinions ended up being right.

It seems like a lot of hardcore players are upset that the game isn't hardcore. I'm a casual player and still enjoy popping in a few times a week for some farming, a fractal run, or a dungeon. I have a great guild too with some internet and IRL friends.

The biggest irony I see is that a lot of people complained about GW2 being too "theme park" on the way to 80, but then once the game opens up at 80 and you can do whatever you want, people say they're "bored." This translates to me that to they just don't have an imagination and don't know what they want except to complain on forums.

In what way does this game open up at 80?? Besides a couple dungeons and grinding done cosmetic gear everything can be done from the early levels. There's just as much to do at 40 as there us at 80.

What Anet messed up on doing is how they designed the entire game around this repetitive formula.

The "heart" system, the pvp instances, events, etc.

Once you've explored multiple maps, did many hearts all over the land, vista's, pvp, and events, the whole world feels "Shallow" because:

1. Things don't change, events reset, pvp resets, nothing "changes" or matters really, you stop some huge dragon from winning, then login a few hours later, see the same boss fight go on. Everything you do in events feels so utterly "pointless" and worthless. Isn't that what events were meant NOT to do? Tehy didn't learn from Warhammer's mistakes with their events.

2. The formulatic nature of go into new map, do hearts>vista's, etc. This got repetitive VERY fast and boring. There was no "shake up" or anything different nto do down the road.

This is why I loved UO so much, the world wasn't "static," unique events happened, things changed, the "gameplay" wasn't set in some formula, what you did one week could be completely different eh next week.

On 8-27-2012, in this very thread, i posted this and i quote myself from back then:

I honestly start to wonder if

a) we're playing different games or

b) many people have not ever played a MMO before.

The zones are not THAT awesome, they are pretty standard MMO stuff without surprises. The whole game actually is fairly generic imho. If the hype would not have been there and a different name slapped on to this, it would be generic korean mmo numer 234452 and people would care for less than 3 weeks.

Combat is, at least when it comes to bosses with more than 5 people involved, completely chaotic and due to overloaded special effects totally random. Heck, normal combat is boring as hell with the darn same mechanics as in every effing mmo since the beginning of time. Don't even start telling me it's better because of the evasion rolls or the non tabbing of targets.

Quests are more generic than anything. Destroy 10 of these, so i can make 5 of these. Oh and kill 7 of these while you're at it. Seriously? Helping farmers with some worms? Sounds familiar? GW1? Every other MMO? Or go there, take the bucket and feed my cow. You're shitting me. Not even talking about the class/race storyline. GW1 storyline was great, GW2 is, to be bland, nothing special.

Are we all playing the same game??? Or are most of you just blinded by some kind of GW2 sign in front of your eyes? Or have you never played a MMO before?!?!

I got slammed for that post here as if there was no tomorrow. How could I not think it was the greatest game of all time, the end of all MMO cycles, the game that changes everything. Jeez, now look at this thread.
