I watched the Rev3 review on youtube. The reviewer spends more time criticising it than praising it, then gives it 5 out of 5. Needless to say, many of the comments are asking what the fuck.

There cannot be a correct viewing angle for a game, it is all up to who designs it. If the Developer wanted to put in a rear facing, upside down camera, then that is their choice. The dissatisfaction that individuals may or may not express with the approach to how the camera is handled, comes down to a matter of opinion. You do not like the camera style in combination with the viewing angle. That is fine. Hundreds of thousands of other people have no issues with it, some prefer it.

There is a difference between artistic integrity and having a customisable experience. Such a small FOV may create the ideal atmosphere and much of the lighting and enemy placement may centre around that, but that's no good for people with motion sickness. "The developers' preference" is fine if it is the default option, but having an option to widen the FOV to accommodate those who will have a physically unpleasant experience with the game isn't an unreasonable thing that will taint their vision.

blahblahblah.. all i see is a lot of chatting and no screenshots goddammit!

In other words, you received the game as a gift from you mom. ;)

I played it a bit last night. so far it's DeadSpace. The FOV is typical for a console game. I am planning on working on that.

It looks ok for a DX 9 game......over 120 fps on my main computer.

Well I for one can't wait to get it. Wasn't able to yesterday (I want the hard copy) but I'll be heading to Best Buy today when I get off to pick up my copy. I'm about the biggest Dead Space fan on here it seems and won't be nearly as picky about FOV or controls as I really didn't have a problem with them in the first 2 games. But after 150+ hours on each game, I'm probably used to them.

yeah right, try i'm 30, single, have my own business and bought my house (mine, fully paid) in 2006, dont live of charity from banks.

game is sucking so bad, uuuunngh! an advice for all: start at least on the hard setting, i'm playing on normal and the game is sooo fucking easy, i'll post final impressions when i finish, so far is sucking so fucking bad, forget about 1 & 2.

Early Impression:

Played for about 1 or so hours last night. Have to say, the co-op experience kicks ass. I can't give too much away, but the first 30 minutes are a little slow (other than the very beginning). Once you reach a certain spot within that first hour, it becomes VERY "dead spacey" for sure. Until then, it seems kind of meh. Pretty pumped to continue on tonight.

A buddy and I came to our first work station. It seems kind of confusing with all the different things you can do to the weapons, but the more the merrier I suppose.

Combat feels pretty decent, but the only thing that bugs me is that sometimes it feels like you're shooting a wall, and not a gooey creature, which should react accordingly when shot several times. Minor annoyance I suppose. Enemies also sometimes explode and the chunks fly all over the room, didn't really understand that.

Graphics on the whole are alright, but textures feel crappier than Dead Space 1 even, and the models of the other characters look almost "cartoony" to an extent, and don't quite go for that "realistic" like feel that Dead Space 1 tried to go for. Maybe it's because I haven't touched DS 1 and 2 in quite a while, but those were my first impressions.

Sound design is top fucking notch. You can really hear the screams down the hallways and all over, especially the grumblings and screams of the monsters from any angle. If you've got a good set of cans and play in surround, you're in for a hell of a treat here.

If anyone's planning to pick it up, stick to it for the first 45 min or so, it'll get quite good after that. There's also a part in the beginning that's IMMENSELY annoying, but you'll know when you get there. :)

God, I hope Helix can create a 3D Vision fix for this game. Since it's still DX9, he should be able to. Playing the first two Dead Space games in 3D on my projector screen was an epic experience.

DX9? Are you fucking kidding me? 2007 tech for 2013 games. Yikes.

I know I shouldn't be surprised by that considering it's a straight up console port but I still am. I guess my expectations are still too high with these developers.

Where are you getting 2007 from? DX10 was already out by then.

Those textures...*puking emote*

They're not (I'm playing through Dead Space right now), but they are pretty bad for a 2013 game.

So... FOV is fixed at the low end... ? I'm not buying it until there is a work around.

The FOV should be even smaller, because he wears that helmet with a tiny [ - ] hole to see through. :p

It probably is a design decision as to change it (usually) is 1 single number... If it was wide then it wouldn't be the same, and make the game waaay too easy and sissy and not at all claustrophobic.

Ah, alright. Just seems crappier than DS1 did, but then again I did say I haven't played in forever! :D

It wasn't bad when I first got into the game, but in your appdata folder there's a systems.ini, and you can change it. It's default at 1, but you can swap it to 1.3, which seems like it makes things much more tolerable.

It's pretty much the same. DS1 wasn't cutting edge when it came out so you put more age on it, put more games that all of us have played since then...it is what it is.

I'll be playing this before today is out so thanks for these tips. :)

Excellent! After my buddy and I get through hard mode (our default), we'll probably be divining in and out of that survival mode or w/e. Maybe we can get in on some of that, just you/me

system.txt. default is Window.FOVScale = 1.00000000, i'm using 1.20000005 for 1920x1200, playable but you'll still have those shitty black bars from the 16:9 console default (not a problem if you're on 16:9, duh).

Sure. I haven't been around as much. Busy. I'm still waiting for you to whip up that nailbiting Hitman contract for me. ;) (I suck at making those.)

Ah, I still need to go back and beat Hitman heh, was close but thing got in the way. After DS3, that's my next go-to game. I'll probably suck at making them too.

I never beat Hitman either...huh...

Think I got to almost the end, though, just never finished.

I don't think you understood what magoo was saying. He wasn't throwing an insult.

I'll definitely be picking DS3 up at some point. MacLeod, I'm with you...huge Dead Space fan here. I loved some of the huge, wondrous areas on the Ishimura and the feeling of dread I got while playing the game. As a huge fan of System Shock 2, Event Horizon, etc., there's something extremely cool about being on a creepy, lifeless space ship.

i never beat it either..after AC3 I will finish it I think.

So if you want your FOV set at something like 95, which is usually what I go for, what is the numeric value to use in the settings file?

Dead Space is not the same game it was with the first edition...wandering around the halls of the Ishimura was a fantastic setting (sort of an Alien vibe)...whereas DS1 was full-on survival horror the followup games have been all about action...I'm sure I'll pick up DS3 at some point just to complete the story but I'm disappointed in the direction the series has gone

I tried 1.200000, it was panned too far back and the characters were tiny.
The default is just too restrictive.

I settled on 1.1000000.

I get just enough cushion to make the game reasonable.:D

And that is correct, I wasn't insulting anyone, or their mom. It was a comment regarding buying versus obtaining the game by other means.

yo!! english is not my language "bro", usually i try to be amusing (or amuse myself) while writing stuff, what other reason one would have under anonymity? you see, theres all kinds of people out there, i think its safe to assume that we're not all some ugly fuckers from the club of the rejects seeking attention from strangers because of the aforementioned reason :p. if he wasnt throwing an insult, oh well, theres times that i'm just bored, and sometimes i'm easily annoyed. and its easy here, cheap entertainment.

the first Dead Space was great, still is, the second one was cool, somewhat a little more boring, with creatures more like "cute" than spooking but it was still good. now, this one is a turd bro, it was obviously done just to milk some cash, it feels like it was designed just for that, like "lets shit on people, lets just do something for money, they're always complaining anyway so fuckem all, lets get those suckers money and laugh because they'll forget soon enough lol". i have about six hours of gameplay, game is just some ugly crap with a bunch of repetitive cheap scares, thats all, and that gets old real fast.

if anyone is looking for buying this game: its playable but it worth less than half a bottle of stoli, guarantee you will have more fun with that so keep that in mind. see how much a bottle of stoli goes in your country, half a bottle will amuse you plenty more, thats how you consider how much this game worth.

yo maggo, thats ok bro, my bad, i'm kinda of a moody creature, sometimes, heh! :D

Hey, thanks man.

I actually set it to 1.4 but I don't notice anything looking too small, so either it didn't take or it just visually looks different because we're running different resolutions or something.

Game is actually fun, feels good, tight controls. I will say there's basically no atmosphere what-so-ever, though. But, it's fun enough, just something about it, that is making it an enjoyable experience.

I do miss the horror and tension of the first two, but this isn't too bad. I'm enjoying it so far.

Sure. I used to rock stoli gold every Friday. No hangovers.

Talk about off-topic.

I personally think there's a solid amount of atmosphere, especially once you get a bit further in, and take it slow with a buddy watching your 6. Alright that sounded fucked up.
