As HD8000 nears Are only HD7000 DUDS left?

I'm seeing alot of low ASIC scores being reported on new HD7000 cards. Is AMD selling old stock of HD7000 cards that had low ASIC scores?

Or is AMD still making fresh crisp high quality HD7000 gpus?
 
I just picked up another Dual-X Sapphire 7950 on Friday, Has a score of 67%.

My previous Dual-x 7950 I picked up on September has a score of 68%.

Both overclock to 1200/1575 at 1.3v on antec 620's.

Are both of them the 8+8 Power connection? If so please take some photos of the PCB and share. I'm very curious about the PCB design.

My Sapphire 950mhz Edition I got last May is ASIC 88%. I recently benched it as high as 1370/1800 on water cooling.

Got a Sapphire Vapor-X 7950 (8+8 pin) last week. ASIC score of 66.6%.
OC'd easily to 1250/1500 on 1.2V w/ air. Running cool @35C idle /60C max load
Haven't pushed voltage to 1.3V yet but I bet I could get it to 1300/1600.
 
The one I got in mid November, a Sapphire 7950 Dual X has a score of 56%!

It overclocks okay I guess, 1137/1600 on stock voltages, any higher on the core it crashes in Unigine Heaven, I've tried this on upto 1.2V but to no avail.

Not being funny but that "ASIC quality" score in GPUz is a red herring and doesn't really tell you anything at all.

NONSENSE!

Its a number that might tell you something about what might be perceived as quality which might possibly indicate how well a chip will do but isn't actually supported by anything and could very well be just a random number based on what batch the chips came from which once again may or may not give any sort of hint as to what you might possibly get by overclocking.

My 7970 has a ASIC number of 68% clocks on Air at 1200 at 1.22v 24/7 i think this ASIC thing is just a big lie tbh
 
My Msi 7970 BE has a Asic quality 66% and is overclocked to 1200 at default vcore. Will also do 1250 at default.

I am stumped on how people are able to get less than 40c Idle temps. I think when my computer starts up, I get about 42c. I have strong fans pushing air on the front and some top and side fans. Max load without overclocking is about... 61c? This is for Winter too.. it's a tiny bit higher in summer

All about proper airflow, Fans and how well your case vents the air.

Now I am not saying you dont have it, but thats how you achieve this.
 
It also depends on the ambient temps, in my apt at ~70F (21C) my card idles at 25C , its winter now and for the most part I've my heater set to 70. Under load with fans on auto and clocked upto 1137/1700, I've seen it go upto 67C looping Unigine Heaven 3.0. Games too have not pushed it beyond 68C (Hitman, Crysis 2, Witcher 2)
A 1080 preset run of Furmark will easily take it beyond 70, so the temps make sense in the context of what the system was running when those temps were achieved.

Maybe it's because I use dust filters?the front and side has dust filters. HMMM
 
the lower quality ones OC better, I had one that was like 9x% and it only went to 1100 on max voltage.

Uh no, the ASIC thread that was posted here awhile ago proved that to be bs. I have one that is 100% and 70% ish and both do 1125/1625 at stock fine, some people have 60ish ones under water than can still only get 1200.

It is a random number with no hard evidence to prove otherwise.
 
Well my early release card was close to 90% ASIC score and over clocks clock close to 1400 mhz on water.

I haven't seen any HD7000 cards with high ASIC scores or high 1300+ over clock scores lately.

I don't put alot of confidence in the ASIC score for overclocking but the new cards that I have seen lately do appear to be lower ASIC scores and don't clock over 1300mhz.


I hope that AMD is still making fresh high quality GPUS for the sake of everyone who wants to buy a new card. I don't like this low ASIC score rating. I have been thinking about getting another HD7950 for Xfire but I'm concerned about getting a low ASIC score card that will not over clock very well.
 
2 weeks old gigabyte 7950 maxed out at 1150/1575 1.15v and would not go further no matter the volts. ASIC 63,9%, vrm temps ~90 degrees, core 65. Not the finest piece work I presume.

I'm pretty sure it showed that the higher ASIC cards could hit lower over-all speeds, since the stock voltage was also lower, and the maximum voltage you could add is .125v (my card was 1.05v so max voltage was 1.175) vs the 1.3V max on the 6x% cards.

btw neither of my cards could break 1100~ stable @ max voltage.
 
Just had a bad experience with a low ASIC score 57% on a Vapor X HD7950.

ASIC score is directly related to the electrical conductivity of the gpu. High ASIC score means it doesn't require very much voltage to run at a rated speed.


My Sapphire 950mhz Ediiton has a ASIC score of 89% and will run 1300/1800 mhz with only 1.22v.
My Sapphire Vapor X HD7950 has ASIC score of 57% and needs 1.22v to run stable at 1200 mhz and I have to under volt from the default voltage of 1.25v to reach this stable speed. I under volt to lower temps and preserve the durability of the card. The Vapor X has max voltage setting of 1.3v which only leaves me .05 of extra voltage adjustments to work with. Because the ASIC score is so low on my Vapor X and it requires a high amount of voltage to over clock it I am unable to get enough voltage to stabilize.


High ASIC score definitely is related to the over all quality of the card.

SonDa5 - You're lucky to have got one with an ASIC at 90%. I'm yet to see another one with an ASIC anywhere close to yours, heck all that I've heard are in the 60s to early 70s.

Mine from early November is 56% (will not go beyond 1175 on core even at 1.3V), so I guess as far as Sapphire goes, you need to be an early adopter of their graphics card series in order to get an extraordinary one.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Sapphire 7950 Dual X to bits :D
