The [H]ardForum Perpetual Freebies Thread

Deadline met. My two posts have been updated with what got saved and what didn't.

Post 1 --> http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039538528&postcount=3131
Post 2 --> http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039522418&postcount=3033

Kept the old PSU (I've got an idea for that) and the PCI "SuperFalcon" card (that will go back up soon, one last time -- I'd really rather not trash it, it sounds valuable).

Those of you who took stuff, thanks lots! Reuse is better than recycle.

There WILL be more :D tonight or tomorrow.

A few things up for the price of shipping...

1GB 1.8V DDR2 533MHz low profile stuff from Kingston.

3x Masscool 80mm fans with nice long cords (3-pin and 4-pin) - unused.

2x Rosewill IR MCE remote controls - with batteries - unused - no receivers included.

1x Moneual IR MCE remote control with mouse function - not sure what it works with.

I'd prefer to jam things in a small flat rate box from USPS, but shipping will be cheap regardless (coming from 07006).

Tyty :)

Long shot - does anyone have an E6700 or E7300 S775 chip they can part with? I'd definitely be willing to trade parts from my FS thread and/or pay shipping (maybe a little extra).

If that doesn't work, it looks like I'll need a different S775 mobo that can handle a Q9300 (I thought the one I had would :( ).

I am in search of some educational (preschool/kindergarten/1st grade) style games for PC. I don't care about how old, as long as they'll run on at least Vista.

Pentium 4 Slim SFF PC. HP d530U. No hard drive, but takes sata and IDE. No cd-rom or anything either. I'll even throw in a 17" (or maybe 19") NEC Accusync lcd72v if anyone wants it.

Local pickup only, San Jose CA.

The PC is pretty heavy for being so small, and has a pretty big solid copper heatsink. It's just collecting dust, and I have no intention of doing anything with it. The capacitors on the motherboard failed a few years ago and I painstakingly replaced them all with upgraded capacitors. It works fine.

I have just one condition though: You have to actually use it for something other than just scrapping/e-wasting it. =)

Well I have an E5400 in my file server right now, it's not a Core 2 Duo but it should work. Dual core 2.7GHz, runs like a champ. I'd need a replacement chip of course ;)

Geeze, save that puppy and sell it for copper scrap! Copper's worth a lot now!

(I'm actually suprised more ppl arent trying to reclaim gold from old CPUs and mobos...)

I'm seeing that it's about $3 a pound for the copper. Am I looking in the wrong place? I honestly would rather someone put the thing to use, though, especially someone in need. I don't think it's an antique, yet.

t_ski, you have a PM.

Replied :D

I'll keep that in mind if I can't find the ones I'm looking for.

I have JumpStart Advanced First Grade (has Fundamentals, Music and Art Club). These date 2003, so I think they might work on Vista, at least under XP compatibility mode.

I thought I had jumpStart Kindergarten and Spanish, but I can't find them ATM. :(

dang, missed that pentium M 'sink. oh well. Dropped you a pm about your mouse situation. :D

looking through my stuff after moving i found this set of 2x 1gb Viking brand fully buffered ram. They are labeled as pc100 dimms on the sticker however, the board clearly has print that labels them as pc 133. Never tested them. Yours for the cost of shipping. Folks that give away more items here get first dibs.

This week's offering...

Expiration Date: Thursday, January 31, at midnight. Anything not at least pending at that point is going to be eWasted.

CD DRIVES -- all of these are tested and working (didn't test writing) *ALL E-WASTED* :(
Sony CRX230ED - CD-R/RW - beige bezel
LITE-ON XJ-HD166S - DVD-ROM - eMachines bezel - may or may not have write capability
NEC NR-7900A - CD-R/RW - black bezel
Pioneer DVD-166ME - DVD-ROM - beige bezel - does not have write capability
LITE-ON LTD-163 (double-labeled as Dell XJ-HD163) - DVD-ROM - black bezel - may or may not have write capability
TEAC CD-540E - CD-ROM - beige bezel
NEC NR-9300A - CD-R/RW - black bezel

WI-FI CARDS -- these are NOT tested! *ALL GONE*
1x Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG - PCIe Mini Card - origin unknown.
1x HP 381302-001 - MiniPCI - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG chipset - probably a pull from an HP Compaq tc4200.
1x LITE-ON WN6301L V.01 - PCIe Mini Card - Realtek RTL8187B chipset - origin unknown.
1x Dell P/N 0PC559 - PCIe Mini Card - Broadcom BCM4311KFBG chip - probably a pull from my Dell Inspiron 6400 / E1505 (same laptop, 2 models  )
1x PCMCIA (probably NOT CardBus) 802.11b card (no 'g') - uses the 'prism3' Linux driver ;) pull from a router, given to me (the card, but not the router) by a friend. No model # listed, but the FCC ID is MXF-C900323 (use that with Google and you should be alright).

AMD ATHLON / ATHLON XP CPUS -- these are NOT tested, but I've thrown away the ones with obvious bent pins. *ALL GONE*
AX1800DMT3C x2
AXDA2600DKV3D x2
A0950AMT3B x1
AXDA2000DUT3C x1
A1333AMS3C x1
AXDA2400KV3C x2
AXDA2800KV4D x1
AXDA2200KV3C x2
D700AUT1B x1

*GONE* FAN -- Cooler Master (rebranded Delta) EFB0412VHA - 40mm*10mm - NOT tested but almost certainly works (fans that don't work tend to get thrown out rapidly around here).

WALL (AND CAR) WARTS -- definitely NOT tested! Also, I don't have a means of telling what size the output jacks are -- I don't have a 0.1mm precision set of calipers or anything like that, sorry! *ALL THRIFTED* :(
1x Sony 4.5v 500mA car charger - output jack center positive - not heavy, so probably not well-regulated.
1x generic 7.5v 250mA "U075025D12" model wall wart - output jack center positive - heavy, but no guarantees on regulation (multimeter won't fit the tip).
1x Motorola 5.9v 375mA "5012" model wall wart - travel style (folding prongs) - weirdass connector (you have been warned!) - light as a sheet of paper -- intended for Motorola's HS820 Bluetooth headset.

*E-WASTED* :( UGLY PS/2 MOUSE -- beige and mechanical (ball type), with the Microsoft logo on the top (for a reason!). MS calls it a Wheel Mouse 3.0PS/2 Compatible. No guarantees on USB interoperability or any function whatsoever -- this has NOT been tested!

WIRED NETWORK CARDS -- not tested! *E-WASTED* :(
1x DFE-530TX+ Rev.C1 Ethernet NIC. PCI, 5v only if I've got my notches straight :p
1x DFE-530TX+ Rev.D2 Ethernet NIC. PCI, universal voltage.

I/O RISER SHIELDS -- please reference the number in the image when specifying which you want! *ALL GONE*
Pic # 1 --> http://i.imgur.com/xA89zdj.jpg
Pic # 2 --> http://i.imgur.com/TkyFQzG.jpg

OTHER RANDOM FLOTSAM AND JETSONS -- obligatory obscure webcomic reference :p
*THRIFTED* :( 1x Dilbert mousepad - goes well with the Ugly PS/2 Mouse, since it's the oldass foam kind. It's the one with the "etch a sketch" comic on it.
*GONE* 1x Make: Magazine (Issue 28, "Toys and Games") - got two by mistake. This one is a spare! These almost always have some good stuff in them.
*THRIFTED* :( 1x copy of Michael Chrichton's "SPHERE" - ISBN 0-345-35314-5 - this is the 1998 edition as published by Ballantine.
*GONE* 1x laptop multi-voltage tester - don't know what laptops the tips go to, so this is a bit of a potluck - wrote the original eBay seller, they said "check the original auction" which wasn't any help since the auction was long gone  box is labeled "NT302 S1135 9.2011" and voltage range available is labeled on the brick as 15v/16v/18v(18.5v)/19v(19.5v)/20v/22v/24v. It is a 90W brick. Of note, it also has a USB port on the side. Remember to set the voltage (red switch on the side) BEFORE plugging it into anything (including the wall!), to avoid sparks and/or smoldering.
*KEPT* 1x SCM Microsystems SwapBox (model SBI-D2P) - Dell issue - this very very strange device has two components, connected by a pair of 50pin ribbon cables. The computer interface is an ISA dual-channel SCSI card (!) of all things, and the other end is a PCMCIA (no CardBus, sorry :( I tried, it doesn't go all the way in) card module with two Type II slots; it fits in a 3.5" drive bay. The ISA card is Dell P/N 60781, and the card module is Dell P/N 57070. This is a pull from a truly antique Optiplex GX1.
*E-WASTED* :( 1x DVI->2xVGA splitter cable. Dell P/N 05E911.
*E-WASTED* :( 1x Earbuds. White, in original ziploc packaging. Does anyone still use this crap?
*GONE* 4x PCMCIA/CardBus slot protectors. For when you want to put something in there but you don't have anything to put in there :p

LAST FUCKING CHANCE ON THIS ITEM -- MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH! Alpha Micro SuperFalcon (PCI Falcon) card - this turns your computer into a mainframe, just like the good ol' days - get your serial terminal fix mofo! FOR SHAME FOLKS FOR SHAME!! *E-WASTED* :( :( :(

I need some kind of an ipod dock with speakers.

Doesnt need to be great, just needs to work.
Ive got an old ancient iPod 30gb that id like to use in my underground workshop/weight room.. I know everyone that upgraded to iPhone 5 kinda got burned since the adapters are different so im hoping I can catch something decent before its junked.

Just needs to be AC powered (Bettery secondary OK), a remote would be cool but not required.
Something like this would be perfect.

nocens has a good altec lansing one for $25 or so in his fs thread

Checked it out.. yeah, right up my alley..
Just spend 1800$ on a new furnace, so gonna try for the a free-99 one first, lol

Thnx for pointing it out tho!

Have:

Stock Socket A Cooler
2X Rounded Yellow Floppy Cables

Need:

IDE ribbon cables
Screws

I have one rounded green IDE cable that isn't getting any use. PM me an address and I'll send it out tomorrow. I'll take a look around for some more to... girlfriend mentioned a few old PCs that she hasn't turned on in years, so I might be able to jack the cables (if I can get to them).

Uh, pyr0...

I applaud your willingness to contribute, but you DO realize that post will be 5 years old in a couple of weeks, right? I would hope that he has been able to find some ribbon cables and screws during that time (or just gave up, lmao).

I just gave away tons of flash drives to co-workers, my kids, and saved some for myself. Even after that, I have the 17 drives below up for grabs... Just pay $1.50 for me to get a padded envelope and to send them first class mail to you (US only). I won't give them all to one person (unless only one person expresses interest), but will split them up in to groups where there is at least 4GB worth of flash drives in each group - so a bunch of people can get a few drives.

From left to right we have the groups (1) 8GB drive, (2) 4GB drives, (5) 2GB drives, (4) 1GB drives, (3) 512MB drives, and (2) 128MB drives.

THESE ARE ALL GONE - THANKS!

I'd like to claim the PNY 4GB drive if it's available.

Also, consider cracking open the swivel drives. Sometimes they're microSD card readers.

On the drives - I have a ton of PMs to go through - and hopefully I can get a decent selection of drives out to most of the people who asked. Found a few more, so that should help. If you didn't get a request in already - consider them all taken at this point.

whoops... I was on my phone, guess I wasn't paying much attention to page or dates :) I'll make a list of things to give away tomorrow. Tons of cables I need to get rid of and I'm sure some other nonsense

^ Would hate to see that go to waste; looks to be in great shape. Unfortunately, I don't need it.

I will, however look for some more things to give away. :)

If anyone wants to swap the case for a heat sink I a, definitely interested in one for AMD. Case was barely used for a month.

Nice offer on the case. I'd love to take you up on it, but couldn't offer you anything more than a stock heatsink. However, I'd gladly offer to send you one of these if you need it (no trade, just the heatsink).

Deal stats on the flash drives I gave away...

In the end I packed 22 flash drives with a combined capacity of 52.25GB in to 10 envelopes... And lost about 55 cents on each deal due to underestimating the cost of shipping by a factor of 3-4x (oh well, that last stat is all my fault).

They are all shipping right now, and if you got in on this you should get shipping details in an email from the USPS/Paypal.

I'd greatly appreciate Heatware when you get them, and send a request for me to return the favor...

Thanks!

You should jerk the ram out of something else to make sure its the ram. Sounds like the laptop was dropped which can easily damage motherboard.

I might have the ram you need, pliskin679 -- I'll check in a minute. If I have it, I'll PM you. If you don't hear from me, that means I don't have it.

The laptop works excellent now, just could use the RAM. just saying that the laptop goes for 40 bucks on ebay, the screen was like 25-30, the HDD was like 20, not to mention labor (since im doing it at my shop) I should have just bought one off ebay :p

Sorry, pliskin679 -- I have DDR2 ram, and DDR ram, but the only DDR ram I have for laptops is either 256 or 512 -- and I've only got one 512 DDR stick.

So I'm afraid I don't have ram for you.

Pardon curiosity, but what model laptop is this?
