I purchased my HS1 back in Oct of 2010 and it just kicked it with the cable apparently going tits-up.

I have been out of the headset market for along time and would like some recommendations for a new headset.
Must have a boom mic, and the band must be able to support the slip for the trackIR proclip.

If you have to have a headset, Sennheiser is pretty much the best. So any model that you can afford is the one that you want.

I would suggest a headphone and a clip on mic. I actually use a pair of Sennheiser 558s and a $3 mic that is perched on the top of my monitor. Works fine.

I'd only get the Sennheiser PC350. Though the Beyerdynamics MMX300 is pretty good too, probably better sound coming out of them. The only issue with the Beyerdynamics is that it doesn't have volume control or a mute function on the mic with the headset. Though the Beyerdyanamics is almost 2x the cost of the Sennheiser PC350s, so I would probably just stick with the PC350s.

Both nice headsets, but both out of my price range(that I should have posted).

Im thinking sub $200, sub $150 preferably.
I have a set of grado headphones for audio, this is just for gaming.

I dont care for razer, and dont know anything about steelseriese(except that they look horrible). I dont know if I want corsair again as I have not been impressed with corsair quality as of late.

Im just looking at whats easily available at local computer stores such as Canada computers or canadian estores.
Whats the word on Tritton?...nevermind, just googled that its madcatz.

If you're going to a canadacomputers pick up the Sennheisser PC350. Their at quite a few of their locations, just check their stock before you decide which store to head to.

I wasnt thrilled with the low bass on the PC350, especially for the price.

try the PC360's.

Weird.... the PC350 are closed so the bass should be a little punchier.
I dunno look at the PC360 they might be better.
I prefer open as they sound more natural to me.

Ill try the pc360, but again its over budget and after tax its $315
$200 and lower, anything?

Yeah the Sennheiser 518s and a Zalman clip on mic. Under $200 and a very good open gaming headphone.

I was looking at the Audio Technica ATH-AD700 and considered pairing it with the antlion modmic but my concern is bleed with the omnidirectional mic....same for any mic using the zalman clip mic.
I figure open ear headphone and mechanical keyboard are going to be bad for mic bleed.

I dont know why I dont want the Sennheisers...prolly gonna get them i guess.

If you can wait a couple more months the noise-cancelling version of the modmic will be out.

I'd much rather just buy/use nice headphones then spend the money on a headset. Most headsets are crap anyways, and even the couple higher-end ones out there aren't nearly as good as normal headphones for the same price.

thats part of my hangup on the PC350. For over $200 they are apparently average at best in a sea of junk.

When we play ARMA2 Wasteland, mic bleed is of paramount concern. Is there any other uni-directional mic worth considering thats suitable for gaming? I looked at a bunch of good mics, but they all want to be placed on a stand right infront of your face.

3.5mm Hands Free Computer Clip on Mini Lapel Microphone by Neewer

I use one and it just sits on top of my monitor. I don't get any complaints about picking up keyboard noise. plus, it is damn cheap. Search Amazon.Ca for it.

The AD700 is pretty good but the Sennheisers are better in most respects except for the size of the sound stage. Still, just last night I clearly heard a guy turning a corner about 20ft behind me and zapped him in bf3. This was with a tank rumbling nearby too.

Sorry to hear about your HS1 dying on you. Mine is still going strong and I love it! :D

If you liked the HS1, have you looked into other Corsair products? My son tried my HS1 and loved it, so I got him a set of the Vengeance 1500's:

I thought they were even better then the HS1 and at $79 US they're pretty inexpensive as well.

Im still considering it.

My current PC I built with as much corsair as I could. I had to RMA my brand new k60 keyboard (shipping costs ouch), my H100 had grinding issues, now my HS1....On the corsair forums the vengeance 2000 appears to be a huge failure with bad batteries and a huge number of them have cracking frames. Im a little put off corsair...

I hear you. I was looking to get the 2000 myself, as it would be great to use for my home office. That way I could get up and walk around, getting things done while still being on a conference call. The things I've read in user reviews make me feel that it would be a poor investment. Too bad the headset itself wasn't built more like the HS1/Vengeance 1500, which seem to be pretty solid.

I don't have as much Corsair as you, just my HX1000, RAM and HS1, but luckily everything I have is still working just fine. Knocking on wood ;)

I almost pulled the trigger but with corsair, I check their forums first with anything and the first 10 pages of their audio subsection is all threads of the 2000 breaking.

The 1500 gets similar complaints to the problem with mine. The flex joint where the cord meets the headphone and where it meets the inline remote are poor and the inside wires come loose, messing the the sound channels. The newegg reviews for example, any that have issues are all issues with the cable joints.

Oddly enough, My HS1N mic stopped working recently. Corsair was kindly enough to replace it with the Vengeance 1300 model.

I will say my son has had to replace his due to the cord issue. At least there's a 2 year warranty. There just aren't a lot of other headsets I like better at a similar price. :(

I recently bought this headset. I have heard for the price it is pretty good. If you make some modifications to it, it is supposed to be on level with much more expensive offerings.
