Just a friendly reminder from the folks at Microsoft, Windows 8 pricing changes take effect February 1st. If you are planning on getting a copy, you should do it before then. Windows 8 upgrade editions will be priced as follows:

  • The Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $199.99 MSRP.
  • The Windows 8 upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $119.99 MSRP.
  • The Windows 8 Pro Pack will cost $99.99 MSRP.
  • The Windows 8 Media Center Pack will cost $9.99 MSRP.

... Good thing I bought my laptop when I did and got my copy of Windows 8 for $14.99. Holy crap,

LOL Is this a joke or are they really trying to sell that rubbish at those crazy prices, surely they should be paying us that daily to use it??

Who's going to pay that? They should have kept the cheap-ass pricing.

I'm just glad i can still buy windows 7

The more I use Win8, the more I hate the damn thing.

What this thread needs is a few good heatlesssun posts.

I got this.

What the hell do you guys know anyway? I've used Win8 for since the fall of the Roman Empire on all five thousand of my Win8 tablets and it's been nothing but a joy. I understand it's not great for the desktop, but that's so yesterday, y'know? Win8 tablets are the future and all 5 of us with one are at least ten thousand times better than you.

And what's wrong with Metro anyway? You've got big buttons so it's easier to click with your mouse (he actually said this, I'm not lying or exaggerating).

*cashes his check from Steve Ballmer*

How'd I do?

I'm guessing $199 for System Builder and $299 for Pro System Builder.

Said another way, fuck me.

Eh, I'll continue learning windows 8 through fixing other peoples machines. So far I've seen nothing that makes me want to upgrade or even run a VM with windows 8 just for shits and giggles.

Not quite authentic. You've got to be able to feign confusion that everyone doesn't think exactly like you, rather than anger. That passive-aggressive shit has to be genuine.

Take two!

 The prophecy has been fulfilled! YOU SIR... Are a visionary!

I'm half tempted to grab it as a "just in case" measure looking at those prices.

Taking bets on how drastically sales drop.

I call 50% sales drop and I'm being extremely generous.

I'm sure they won't sell many upgrades at that price point, but then again I'm also pretty sure that most people who were looking at upgrading have probably done so. :D

Alrightie.

I'm not sure why everyone hates Win8, it's working perfectly on an overpriced Win8 tablet provided you don't really try to do anything productive. The Metro interface really makes it incredibly easy for you to buy applications through the Microsoft store so MS makes even more money!!! Oh the joy! If you don't find the application you're looking for just remember that it'll be there in the near future. When? Oh, I'm not sure but I can definitely tell you you won't be waiting long. Oh you want Facebook and YouTube? Those apps are so overrated anyway. All the cool kids use Socl and don't watch any videos outside of Bing.

I wouldn't trust the professional reviews of the products either, given that these people are almost certainly from (insert rival company) fanboys. Just have a look at the Amazon reviews and remember to ignore all the bad ones because they're patently false. Take it from me, a completely unbiased observer who just so happens to defend MS in every single thread remotely involving anything MS related, when I say something you can be sure it's possible that a portion of it is true.

That's $30 MORE than you can buy a full retail copy of Win7 home premium for right now on Amazon. Not even the OEM version - FULL retail, NOT upgrade.

What kind of crack are they smoking?

Lamest OS release for Microsoft in ages , widespread discord and fanboy hate over Metro UI interface..

SOLUTION : Charge more!

Bye, bye Microsoft can't deny,
Told us this OS was best,
But that's just a damn lie.

Same for me. I installed it on my laptop (older model - Acer Aspire 5741G with an SSD upgrade) and used Win 8 Pro for about 4 days before I reverted back to Win7 Ult. So happy I had the foresight to make an image of my HDD before I installed that turd of an OS. Back on Win7, now I have zero problems with Steam games loading, being able to select the LCD's native resolution in game (1366x768, as some games would only let me max out to 1280x768 with Win8...weird), and everything is happy once again.

I was impressed with the boot/shutdown speeds, but that quickly became all there was to like about it for me.

I may be wrong but don't if you have Windows 8 Pro you can "downgrade" for free to 7?
That's not my understanding.

If you want to ____grade to Windows 7 from Windows 8, I believe you're going to need a full version of Windows 7. I don't believe it's possible to use the upgrade version over a Windows 8 installation.

I believe this is correct as MS's vision for Win8 was for it to be a universal OS for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PC's, and if they put the "OS rollback" feature in, then there would be a lot of people trying to get Win7 on their phones and tablets which would create a metric phuk-ton of problems.

Except we'll never know how much because theres no independent third party calculating them, so all we have is Microsoft continuing to press release these big round vague numbers about how Window 8 has sold 100 million copies and they won't dare break that down because they'd get torn apart when people saw the extent they've gone toward creative rounding, and all the stuff that has no business being included.

Looks like if you buy a PC with Windows 8 Pro, than you can get to Windows 7. Not sure about buying Windows 8 Pro separately though.

I think it has to be the OEM pro version. We bought some for work and used the key for windows 7.

Wow, I can think of a lot better ways (all of which are cheaper) to destroy my computer.

Decent sales tactic! "Buy it now, this offer won't last forever" works on a lot of people. There are even case studies on the psychology involved. The only thing left is for Microsoft or the industry in general to make up a Windows sales holiday, with the 'classic' pricing on that day only after the adjustment. Then you have yourself a regular idiot panic moving the sales chart once a year, along with all of the suckers that bought it at full price the rest of the year.

What I know is this: Microsoft quarterly report is on the 24th. And forecasts ain't great for the Windows division. So if they boost the pricing up to the levels in the OP then they're going to have some explaining to do to shareholders intent on knowing how they expect to fix Window 8 sales.

win8 works fine for me, the difference between it and win7 are easy to overcome ime... not sure what all the fuss is about, especially the start screen.. imo it's fast and easy to use, maybe moreso then the previously used start menu... and again easy enough to avoid if it gets your panties in that much of a wad...

The only people that should have windows 8 installed is those with touchscreen laptops or hybrids. Anyone that puts windows 8 on a computer without touch screen should be admitted to a mental institution. :) However, if you do have a touchscreen then by all means buy it now.

I really only did it because I wanted some software that wasn't compatible with winxp and it was the cheapest route... lol but yeah I am also kind of mentally unstable so ya may be right :D
