All you Radeon owners better head on over to AMD and grab the new AMD Catalyst 13.1 WHQL drivers. In addition to performance improvements and game specific fixes, the new drivers address the following issues:

  • Resolves a sporadic system hang encountered with a single AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series GPU seen on X58 and X79 chipsets.
  • Resolves an intermittent hang encountered with AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series GPUs in a CrossFire Eyefinity setup.
  • Resolve missing fonts issue in XBMC
  • Resolves no video issue found in Media Player Classic Home Cinema when using full or half floating point processing
  • Resolves the Skyrim lighting issue (missing a lighting pass) for the AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
  • Resolves the hang encountered playing Dishonored on the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series
  • Resolves the issue with engine and memory clocks running too high when the GPU is idle. Clocks will now run at the proper level when the GPU is idle.
  • Resolves performance issues (where GPU activity runs at lower values than expected) seen on the AMD Radeon HD 7870.
  • Resolves Corruption seen in Darkness 2 and Carrier Command when using CrossFire configurations
  • Feature Highlights of AMD Catalyst™ 13.1 Linux Driver: Ubuntu 12.10 Support

I am still experiencing the screen flickering and flashing issue on my 6950 with this driver. I have been experiencing this issue since 12.10. I am currently using 12.8 drivers. I have seen a few people asking about this issue on other forums so I know that I am not the only one. I hope that the upcoming beta driver will resolve this issue.

Same here on a 6850.

I have not seen this yet on two of my 6950's, does it happen during games or just all the time?

Too bad it still only supports 5000 series and newer cards! I guess I'll stick with the hacked 12.10s for now...

HDMI audio failed to install. Is that normal.

From what I can tell, it looks like AMD screwed up the Catalyst Packages. The HDMI driver included with the 64 bit Package is the 32 Bit Driver and Vice Versa. Swapping the driver files doesn't work either since the Digital Signatures don't seem to match when you switch them.

Eventually, someone at AMD might realize they screwed up and fix them.

The best unsung improvement I've seen so far: a per-application 3D settings tab that actually makes sense!

Only took them what 6 years longer then nvidia? T_T finally happy if this is true.

I think its under the panel section, use the motion refresh setting (I cant remember what its called) enable and disable and it stops the flickering until you reboot... Been an issue on my crossfire-x 6950's for awhile and thats the only solution Ive found.

Windows 8 64bit here and I still have the idle bug. GPU and memory do not clock down at all when idle.

I took my Gigabyte 7950 Windforce3 out last week and put in my XFX 5850 because I was tired of the random system freezing I've had since I built the system in Feb. 2012. I have the ASRock X79 Extreme4 and hope this will really fix the issue because its a great card other than the freezing.

Will put the card back in later tonight and report back after some testing.

This is useful; however it did not solve my issue.

This worked for me. It would be great to see AMD resolve this issue in a future driver. Thank you for posting this. I can now run current drivers!

Do you mean LCD Overdrive?

Yup -- I got flickering/tearing at the desktop if I used anything but 12.8 drivers -- oddly enough when I had bitcoin running, the tearing/flickering stops. But I shouldn't have to have a load on the GPU just to have a useable desktop lol

I see the fixed the random crashing? i have a 7970 on an X58 chipset - I actually thought it was Windows8 being retarded I moved back to Win7. *shrugs*.

Might have to give these a spin -- not expecting much. as much as I love my 7970's, drivers have always been AMD's weak point.

Yeah I'm having some issues with this new driver as well. I have flickering and artifacts on the desktop at idle occasionally now in Win7-64bit with my 7870. I rolled back to the previous driver and the problem went away. I think I'll wait till they hotfix this and then get it...

So far no lockups! Played some Warhammer 4K: Space Marines, LOTRO, Sniper Elite V2, no lockups so it looks like they finally fixed the problem with X79 chip set and 7000 series freezing randomly for almost a year. Will play some more and get back but so far looks great! I had given up and taken the 7950 out last week, what a surprise! Thank you AMD! Now bring on the 8000 series...

hmmm techreport shows the frame latencies are back down with the 13.1 drivers....
i wonder if that will reflect in future hardocp reviews on amd cards. (in other words smoothness)

Yes. That's what they meant, I also use this to get rid of the windows boot up flickering. 6950 on vista 64bit.

Alright, I'll give it another shot.

Edit: Yeah, that did the trick.

Damn......it uninstalls everything......:eek::eek::eek:

Does that mean it works?

Or, much worse?

I was tempted to give it a try but am awaiting user feedback. I did it the old fashioned way:
  • Uninstall from Programs and Features.
  • Restart computer.
  • Install 13.1.
  • Restart computer.

I bluescreened on initial attempt to install 13.1 on Win8 Pro. After reboot and another install attempt everything went through just fine and worked fine. Game performance was horrible (though it was with 12.1 as well) with me only able to get AT MOST 70 fps regardless of video settings in BF3...there's an obvious issue with Win8 and tri-fire...definately wouldn't recommend going more then two cards in a multi-gpu setup...ive had nothing but problems unique to tri-fire since I built up to it...back to Win7 I go!

My brand new Asus Matrix 7970 crossfire setup just kept Battlefield 3 Multiplayer at 70+ FPS on Ultra in 6048x1080 Eyefinity - No flicker, no stutter and no tearing.

I am so happy I peed myself a little =(

70+!!!! I'm getting like 50+ in Crossfire 7970 with these drivers, Gained about 10 fps from the last Drivers but DAMN. 70+??

13.2 reduces frame latencies, not 13.1.

hmmms the 13.1 drivers seem to have broken dota 2

game still plays and works, but its like your playing on acid. Not that I would know what that would be like or anything.

colors are screwed.

i wonder if 6950s have this happen? i have 2 6950s in the same mb and my system does that. my system will just lock up for no reason, some times it will go days other times a few hours its not the ram and cpu because i can run prime and occt all day and no lock ups. i thought it was my ssd but changed it out and it still does it, i put my gpus in my wife amd rig and she hasn't had any lockups....wonder if this bug does 6950s to or could it be our mb?

Seems to have been repacked now. "Win 8 users with HDMI audio issues - we've re-packaged the 13.1 Package with the proper files on http://amd.com ; problem is solved. "

I'll try it, I'm currently on 12.11 on my 6950.

This is why I come to [H], you find out little tips to resolve big problems with your hardware with these comments sections.

Hate to sound like a jerk but .. its time to upgrade dude :)

No worries - been wanting to, but figured I'd wait for the 8000 series cards to come out, and am trying to save up for a 4P mobo for folding later this year... If only I had more money laying around!
