DeLorean Hover Car?

Where we're going we don't need roads....

Looks real enough. Wouldn't even be too hard to make I'd think.

That's exactly what I thought. The body panels on the DeLorean aren't that thick or heavy because the carbon fiber frame supports the car. Sure it's cool, but it's not technically difficult.

You do know that DeLoreans actually made pretty crappy cars right? The Volvo engine used in the DeLorean was extremely underpowered for it's size (only 130hp on a 3 liter) and highly unreliable.

The only thing that made them cool was the stainless body panels and the powered gull-wing doors (and even the doors were unreliable, they tended to burn out if you used them wrong)

It's probably faster and more reliable as a hovercraft than it ever was as a car

Yup, they look nice but handle and drive like a Chrysler K-car.

The doors are manually operated with a torsion bar and two struts. The torsion bar is what breaks.

I would agree with that sentiment if only there were a 'good' DeLorean. As others have mentioned they made absolutely dreadful cars. There have been quite a few projects done to completely gut the DeLoreans and put better engines and systems in them. It is a popular car to completely remake into something else. Most people just get them for the body of the car.

The DeLorean did not have powered doors.
