I have a Hitachi drive which seems to have failed.

I can't remember where I bought this particular drive ( I have 15 of these disks! ) but on the Hitachi site when trying to do a warranty check I get the following

"The drive is not valid for warranty through HGST. Please return product to your point of purchase. "

Guess this means the drive may as well be a door stop?

Yes this drive looks bad to me for several reasons. For one you have 4517 recorded events. Next the Current_Pending_Sector and Offline_Uncorrectable counts.

If there is nothing weird on the label that says "OEM" or "Made for XXX by HGST" then I would give support a call/email and find out exactly why it is not under warranty. I have had to do the same for WD and Seagate multiple times with retail drives when their online tool did not see it as a drive under warranty and they always figured it out.

Good luck man, those 5K3000s are near impossible to find now :(

Cheers will drop them an email

Yep luckily as this is part of a raid array I have a spare just in case!

In Paris you often get gray market drives that are not under warranty in Europe but in Asia instead, you could try entering the serial while saying you're in Asia.

WD (I think) allows one RMA per year for such drives.

Had a similar issue with a Seagate I got from newegg, gray market from Germany. I provided proof of purchase and they ended up "one offing" the rma
