Must See Video of the Day

Pretty good. We sure need one more Neil Blomkamp as my favourite directors are getting old. Oh, how I wish someone could fill that giant Paul Verhoeven hole :(

Impressive work. Wonder what software he used for the rendering and animation?

Good job for a one person project but the script is utterly terrible, complete trash. As a sci-fi fan, I expect more than this same old regurgitated and repetitive garbage. What makes a good movie (or even a small project like that) isn't the CGI, but the script/writing. I'm pretty sure a 10 years old could have written some more cleaver.

One thing to point out though, is his effective use of lighting which he nailed perfectly. As any cgi artist is well aware, lighting is everything, and without everything else looks fake and unrealistic. I'm not sure you guys realize the potential this kid has. While some of you are focusing on the story, I'm sitting here with my jaw dropped at how he accomplished 85% of this work by himself in less than 7 months. You have no idea how much of an accomplishment, and it's no wonder that he immediately got a job at highly well known cg firm and is flying to Hollywood as we speak. Mad respect for this kid...

Envy too much. Please, present the work you have done so everybody can comment.
BTW, commenting else's work is easy - doing something that's another story.

You're sure the homing beacon is secure aboard their ship? I'm taking an awful risk, Vader. This had better work.

wonder if the blender foundation will get him to do a short movie, would be ideal follow up elephantts dream, big bunny and sintel.

as others have pointed the lad is seriously talented, hope to hell he ends up working in the right place where he can expand his abillities.

Yeah unfortunately this is what I was going to say. Talented animation no doubt, but the script was utterly cliche.

lol yeah ok, because he hasnt written any scripts lately he's forbidden from stating the Twilight series are trash. Get real, as the consumer we are entitled to our opinions. Just because my dayjob doesnt consist of working in hollywood doesnt mean I cant say something is bad when it is.

Probably because the "machines rebel against their creators" bit has been played out so many times. It's the new time travel. Oh wait, the Terminator did both in the 1980's. :) That being said, I enjoyed this video. I thought there could have been improvements in the sound effects department. The ripping off of the machine's head just didn't have any weight to it. But visually the whole thing was stunning. The story is played out but with science fiction the devil is in the details more than the overarching story line.

It's hard to come up with a completely original storyline in today's world with all the literary, interactive and film works out there. So again it's all about presentation.

I agree, it seemed like he was losing steam on the project near the end with the sound effects. The CGI was incredible and looked very natural for displaying such unnatural creatures but he definitely could have garnered something more impactful from having more detailed sounds, like alien cries during torture, the sound of his hand slipping out of the restraint, or the sounds of wires/connectors coming apart when he separated the robot's "head".

I understand though, it was a graphic demonstration of his skills, I would definitely like to see the story developed though. Regardless of the originality, taking humans out and substituting an alien race adds some spice. Gives the story teller a chance to write in his own culture, morals, history, etc...without reality getting in the way.

I wasn't offended, but I was totally disappointed by the unimaginative, bland and generic story. Very uninspiring. He clearly has skills but not as a writer for sure.

+1 for this.
Never did I say I was better than him for CGI/animation. I simply commented on one aspect of his work, which is the story/script. I give him credits for the rest, but if you seriously enjoyed the script I truly feel sorry for you and your upbringing.

If you took that +1 negatively, I'm sorry for your upbringing.

^FYI, this one is meant to be negative.

It was pointed out elsewhere, he made good choices in avoiding on of the more difficult animations to handle, facial, particularly the mouth. He also had some janky movements in at least two parts. And the building explosions weren't completely believable. Impressive? Absolutely despite all that. I can't even make a good drawing in paint ^_^

Interesting, I would like to see more of this story line.

I've all but given up on multi-player games. For me, it's all about the single player experience. If you want to capture my attention, give me a good storyline.
