After years of playing games fairly and never using a hack or a expliot I feel like the
gaming industry needs to do something serious about hackers.
I would like to see what you all think about hackers and how can we put a stop or
minimize the amount of Hackers.
They are in every single game , but I want to talk about Multiplayer games were we
are affected the most.

I play with Soc-Squad.com and we have spoken about this topic alot lately since it's really getting out of hand. These are some of the ideas we came up with and please tell me what you think and through in your own ideas.

1 - Steam accounts should be required to play multiplayer games with a minumin of $100.00 of games. If you are caught hacking in any game your steam account is taken away with all the games.

2. Hardware killing. Currently If you are cought hacking with Xbox 360, your console is disabled and you need to purchase a new console. So for PC , lets disable your Video Card perm and you will need to go out and get a new Video Card.

3. Pass a Law to make it illegal and you will need to register with some type of Gov/State Website before you can play online. If you are cough hacking the state sends you a bill like an ticket that must be paid to the state if its not paid you can lose driving privilages and so forth.

4. My Idea - The Middle Eastern way - Cut your hand if you are caught hacking.

I would be willing to put any of these into effect cause I never hack EVER or glitch or any exploits that is going to give me an unfair advantage over another player.

Hacking is out of hand and I think we need a pretty drastic move to minimize their use.
I

Remove access to the multiplayer components of games for those caught using cheats and hacks, as per the current terms of every EULA on every game with multiplayer. Those measures you and your friends have come up with are terrible.

Plague_Injected doesnt like my idea... Big surprise...

Can you explain a little more about what your typing here.
I want to understand it cause if its somethign implemented now , it's not working.

How do you remove their access??? I dont get it!

I understand people that hack will not like my ideas... for sure

Are you seriously saying that because you never do something it's ok to do something drastic like what you suggest? Because that always turned out so well whenever we've done it in the real world...
I'm going to suggest that perhaps most of the "hackers" you've run into are simply people above your skill level.

It faces the same issue as piracy. Any way to significantly impact either on a large scale would have to be rather draconian and/or impractical as well as rather intrusive, which your offered solutions are an example of.

Honestly I feel that if you really want to play truly competitively then play in an actual organized setting which would be much more controlled and monitored. I personally feel the idea of extremely competitive "pub" gaming to be a bit silly really.

Good game server Admins, better screen shot tools, A punkbuster like system that is NOT a complete joke.

Thanks for the laugh.

Seriously though, while hax are a pain in the ass those four ideas listed are just plain stupid.

For the first one, why should anyone have to fork out more money for something they already paid for (multiplayer feature in a game)? Steam doesn't host MP servers outside of their own games, so why should the responsibility fall to them for those that cheat? Besides, Steam already has their own infraction system in place for whatever they can control...it may not be perfect, but name a anti-hax approach that is.

Lawsuits will automatically kill any chance at #2, any EULA or click-thru license be damned. The Xbox 360 isn't disabled, but merely blacklisted from the XBL servers.

As for the third option...you seriously want gov't regulation on something as trivial as this? They can't get anything right!

#4...this just makes me wonder if you guys are smoking some bad product. Get your money back...

Face it, there isn't a "final solution", as it were for those that use hacks. If you really are that anal retentive in not having to worry about hax, then you guys just need to consider an invite-only dedicated server (for PC games) or just stick to playing with others you know (for console games).

I don't know about you, but I use my computer for more than gaming. If I'm accused and found guilty of "hacking" and get hardware killed, ESPECIALLY if I'm not, I'm going to throw a bitch fit. Same goes with all your "punishments".

I can't drive because I cheated in a game.

All the while, keep in mind this will only hurt legit users. The cheaters will find a way around the detection system.

Stopping hacking is easy, but you and the people around you are unwilling to do it. So it will never be solved.

Create a company that uses public notaries to validate the real identity of a person. We will call it RealID
Create an account and tie your real life identity including things like Social security number to your account.
Give any game company the access to link your unique game ID with your game account. So think like your steam account is now permanently linked to this game ID through a secure process, and this would extend to any company willing to participate, battlenet, origin etc...

Now if you get officially banned for cheating in any game by a positive anticheat system like VAC that ban is permanently attached to your RealID.

Every server admin in a game that supports RealID can choose an option to only allow people with a clean RealID attached to their account to join their server. People who cheat will have to play on open servers. Quickly people will learn not to waste their once in a lifetime RealID and cheaters will mostly avoid it.

The fundamental principle is the same one that governs society for the most part, the fact that if you commit a crime you will have it permanently attached to you for life unless you commit fraud and change your ID.

Short of that nothing will fix cheating, cloud / streaming will definitely not, by the time that takes off image recognition will be good enough the aimbots will work without needing any access to the game code. The best thing to do is always to get people to self regulate.

I will probably make another post about why cheating has seemed to increase in recent years.

Yeah, right. Like I am going to trust my Social Security number and other personal info to a company that is going to give access to any and all game companies to said info.

At the rate companies are being hacked in today's society that kind of access is just asking for a massive identity theft problem.

Hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! You slay me!:p

Well we can all agree there is no easy solution to this issue.
Extreme messures is my solution because Im FREAKING TIRED OF HACKERS!!!
People can say that I'm mad because other people are better than me but
In BF3 I have a 1.8 KD so I'm better then most people in here and I dont hack and
never will. War Z - over 60% of the people are hacking. Its out of hand!

Punk buster and everything that is in place now its garbage.
If something is not working its time to change it and thats all im trying to discuss.

Some peeps coming in here and saying "your ideas a horrible" are weak.
You dont have anything better to add but to come in here and say that.
Get out of my thread and say something useful for once.

Everything is possible with the right amount of team work and organization.
We can keep playing games and face hackers at every turn and NOT one person
in here can say that it doesnt get them upset. So step up with some ideas or
STFU and get out of my thread!

Plague_Infected Im still waiting on your responce ???
How do you stop them from accessing???

Its sounds like to me that no one has anything better to add, but to come in here and hate!

Why are you all afraid of these measures if you dont hack???

So your completely happy playing with hackers then???

I would enjoy playing a game where there are serious consequences for hacking..

I don't play competitive multiplayer games nor do I play with randoms. The current methods for dealing with hackers do suck, but your "options" are beyond ridiculous and clearly point out that you take it far too seriously. Games are supposed to be fun but you are acting like cheaters are actually hurting you or your family. It's a tad crazy.

LOLOLOL

5. If you get caught hacking, your tax dollars will go to have a special hacking police force invade your house and seize your machine. You will also go to jail with $50.000 bail and not be allowed to play video games for a minimum of 5 years.

Lighten up, these are video games! I hate hackers as much as everyone else but at the end of the day I dont let it get to me. I also think that people think there is more hacking than it actually is. I see a lot of accusations (sorry but the word hackusation is fucking stupid so I will never use it, I apologize for even writing it down) in game but a lot of times its just that people suck and if there is a couple of good people why not just call em hackers.

But good post, its definitely a good laugh, specially number 3 LOLOL. The gov has way more things to do than care if a couple of teenagers are hacking a stupid call of duty game.

edit: I did not ready every single post when I wrote this. Ah, you are a BF3 players. Of course it makes sense and when I mentioned people accusing others of hacking BF3 is a good example where every game ppl are bitching and bitching and no one is hacking. I have encountered very few hackers in that game but tons of people accusing.
Also 1.8, although better than me, is not that good of a kdr. Also in a game like BF3 that means shit when if all you do is kill and not help the team doesnt not mean you are a good player. Seriously dude, you are taking this too serious. I hope you are not one of the ppl bitching on the BF3 forums, those are the most terrible forums on the planet.

The simplest solution is to just ban multiplayer games. Not just vidja games either, ban all sports and any other competitive endeavour!

Know this, somewhere, right now, a kid is cheating at scrabble. And since there would be public outcry at the cost involved in hunting this criminal down and hanging them from the nearest lamp post as an example to others, we'd better just ban the game and remove the opportunity!

cheating at scrabble? stone that man to death!

cheating at scrabble? stone that man to death!

That's not a real word! Cut his dick off! Mom, get the butter knife!

Seriously though. Worst thread I've read in all my time on earth. We must be getting trolled. It's just not real.

This is certainly a trolling ... game hackers and other online individuals who seem to want to experience schadenfreude are certainly inconvenient for people who play MP games but banning them from the game is the best solution :)

Maybe I don't play enough online these days, but I haven't seen a blatent hacker in a single online match in any game in the last year. Or maybe I just assume someone is better than me, who is actually hacking? I've played BF3, MW3, LoL, DDO this last year, to name a few.

I would actually say there are probably LESS hackers online these days compared to the old days, where one could easily modify game files and not be monitored near the extent that modern games have.

The problem with the ideas listed for prevention is that some people are accused of hacking, but are not actually. Plus things like misreads from punkbuster, etc. I would go ballistic if I lost my games or accounts due to an accusation that was not true.

And for the record, both my 5 year old and 10 year old sons have been accused of hacking while I have watched them play BF3 and MW3. It makes me a proud dad when I see a supposed adult getting upset in a game after my child whoops them.

Active Administration -- too many server ops just turn on their servers and never check or log into them. This is what I'd like to call 'Irresponsible Administration'. Servers like these should be blacklisted until resolved.

Instead of the old 'kickban' route, why not just allow hackers/cheaters to only play with other hackers/cheaters? When someone is found to be a cheater, they aren't banned from playing the game, but are relegated to servers that only service cheaters. It would be akin to separating dopers from anti-dopers, let the dopers play with other dopers to see who is the dopest (had to ;) )

Well, we will see how Treyarch deals with me considering a whole FFA game people were calling me a "faggot hacker, lag hacking, instant aimer, invincible hit box" when they just suck at the game. I laughed a little inside.

But TBH banning a hacker from any game is usually what I usually prefer to see. I dislike cheaters/hackers.

The Middle Eastern way? Better catch up on how it works over there... You have to be caught three times stealing, with intent. IE, you have to have planned to steal something, and be caught three times doing it. Then you case is sent to a group of judges (I think it's a majority vote), then sent to the regional Prince who has the final say.

Please move to China or North Korea.
They will be happy to cut off hands, maybe yours.

I think the overwhelmingly unanimous opinion here is that these are all terrible ideas, but I'd like to add one thing that hasn't been touched on. Does anyone remember the uproar from ME3? Not the ending, but from the idea that modding the SP could get you banned from Origin.

Despite what the EULA would have me believe, I think the prevailing view here would be that, as a paying customer, I am entitled to do what I please with my product. Now, if I start hacking in MP and ruining the fun of others, then others have every right not to play with me, and the provider has every right to help them avoid me through systems like VAC and PunkBuster. But what I do on my own PC is my business, and not anyone else's.

I'd rather play with aimbotters than lose my ability to mod.

honestly, I think the best way is just to perma-ban them.... if they want to start a new account, not to mention the money for the game.... go right ahead. Cheat again? Another perma-banned account.

edit: and don't call them hackers. It implys that some sort of skill was involved when they're just using a trainer or tool that someone else developed.

I never see cheaters playering longer than ~5min before the admin bans them. So I do not believe there is a big issue with cheaters

This is probably the most efficient way to go about it. For dedicated servers, use ones that are moderated and report problem players to game publishers/devs. For P2P and other types of setups, gives users an option to vote-kick for cheating. If it's legit, devs review it and if legit... issues a ban. If it's not legit... give users a warning for abusing it and possibly a small vacation for repeated abuses (sore losers than cant stand someone being better than themselves)

While I share your passion against cheaters (seriously how big a faggot do you have to be and so on) your listed options wont work because you cant really deprive somebody of a product they have rightfully purchased. You know, after the purchase they own the item. But, seems to me the MMO model is the key here. In a MMO you have control with the users account and anything he does in the game. All the data could even be server side. When the user is found to be hacking or trying to hack the game, you could ban all his shit based on his CC, IP, email, account, name, billing adress, etc

In games like CS or CoD all the data exist locally on the user's computer so all he has to "hack" is the game right there on his harddrive. That makes the job infinitely easier and basically it's rediculous.

You take games WAAAAY too fucking seriously. Unless you actually play professionally you and your friends maybe need to stop playing games online if hackers make you this angry because you all clearly have issues.

Lol, easy to see which side you're on / which kind of games you havent been playing much.

What amazes me is how easy hacking is for people to crack every game. Do anything they want in a matter of weeks. Truly smart people out their wasting their time with kiddy shit when they could be doing incredible things for man kind(The people creating the hacks).

These ideas are stupid, yes, but hackers are a real problem and ruin the fun of everyone else playing the games, so I agree something more drastic needs to happen. The real problem is that many server admins either don't care or just use hacks themselves.
