Connecticut Town To Burn Violent Video Games

Then why are you supporting craziness? Do you believe the Earth is 6,000 years old and that evolution is the creation of Satan to test your faith as well?

Bigoted much? I guess you "know" there is no higher power.

Earth could very well be way over 6k years old.

"In the beginning, the Earth was without form, and void". (misquote)
edit: "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the Earth was without form, and void."

There is no distinct time frame given between this and "day 1".

end edit.

So the Earth was already there.. who knows for how long.

Us evolving from a pile of goo and somehow DNA magically assembling itself is a joke.

"Evolution" in and of itself, just not the way most people define it, is not out of the question.

Variations, such as different breeds of dogs, cats.. stuff like that is "evolution" as is mutation in diseases.

There is also "devolution", especially when in-breeding occurs. DNA becomes corrupted and you get malformities, etc.

One species evolving from another species is not going to and never has happened.

added/fixed stuff

Riiiiiiiiiiiight...so you OBVIOUSLY know something that a vast majority of biologist don't! Man, I think you just turned the scientific community on its heads! When are you publishing your paper that proves evolution is wrong and impossible the way a majority of biologist say it happens. Where did you go to school for biology?

Oh you didn't? You aren't a biologist? You really have no idea what you're talking about? Well, that's a surprise!

Go back to reading your Bible and I'll go back to learning actual facts.

Brilliant! I'll bring in my old violent video games, then use the gift certificate to buy newer violent video games. What what in da butt.

HAHAHHAHA. If i lived there I would hold up a sign for kids saying "willing to help you buy M rated games".

Riiiiiiiiiiiight...so you OBVIOUSLY know blah blah blah I'm questioning your credentials on the internet because I'm awesome and know everything.

And what might we call you, oh omnipotent lord of all scholars?

Actually, you (or rather they) kinda sorta can - like how Amazon remotely deleted 1984 from people's Kindles. Revoking permissions or certificates on DRMed media or remotely deleting on sync are the digital equivalents of book burning.

That's not quite the same as voluntarily joining in a book/DVD/comic book/videogame burning though. If people really want to trash their video games, then more power to them. I won't be joining them.

Never heard about that but I was speaking in terms of burning the games. :p Why did they remove the book from the Kindles?

Bigoted much? I guess you "know" there is no higher power.

No, I don't "know" whether there is or is not a higher power. However, I certainly don't go around acting like I DO know that there is. Big difference.

I refuse to believe in something of which there is no evidence for.

Somebody with an axe to grind about Christianity, it seems. They probably offended him at some point with a bake sale or a nativity scene.

Right...because all Christianity does is bake sales and nativity scenes. We'll ignore everything else wrong that they do...which I'm guessing in your eyes is nothing right? Besides shaping politics to outlaw science, keeping idiots in office, promoting unprotected sex, among thousands of other things that wouldn't happen without religion, especially religions based on the Bible and Yahweh.

Again...I thought geeks were supposed to be smarter than this. I'd bet anything that the people staging this burning of games are Christians. Want to take me up on my bet?

I will be turning in Sid Meier's Simgolf. Why I ever bought that garbage, I'll never know.

And what might we call you, oh omnipotent lord of all scholars?

You can call me a well educated man that bases things on actual facts. Facts that come from research by actual scientists. Not pseudo science done by religious "scientists".

You can argue with me all you want, you can say anything you want. In the end though you would still be wrong if you go against people that actually know what they're talking about.

He who shouts the loudest isn't automatically right. Not saying you're shouting, but you are showing your ignorance.

Let's not turn this into an evolution vs creationism thread. The bible thumpers have enough threads to humiliate themselves in on that debate. Stick to the utterly insane ideals being pushed by this town full of people straight out of the dark ages. Give them a new thing to display their amazingly uneducated opinions on.

Sorry. You're right. Back on topic.

how much do you want to bet that the person in charge of the "disposal" is going to trade them all in to gamestop.

No, I don't "know" whether there is or is not a higher power. However, I certainly don't go around acting like I DO know that there is.

So you don't know that Christians are wrong. You just act like they are. Much better.

Right...because all Christianity does is bake sales and nativity scenes. We'll ignore everything else wrong that they do...which I'm guessing in your eyes is nothing right?

Compared to other religions, it's nothing. I already know what you've typed, and excuse me if I'm a bit more afraid of groups like radical Islam and Scientology. You know...the people who do actual harm.

Besides shaping politics to outlaw science, keeping idiots in office, promoting unprotected sex...

What was that anti-science law again? Oh yeah...it doesn't exist. In fact, science has been corrupted into a religion by many pseudo-intellectuals like yourself who enjoy dismissing all disagreement and skepticism as "flat-earther stupidity". No disagreement about idiots in office, but after the fiscal cliff outcome, they're all idiots.

And yes...Christianity "promotes unprotected sex"...because they want people to have children. One could claim that the government does the same thing by marrying people.

Anyway, I'm uninterested in your various qualms with Christianity that probably fall back on events that happened centuries ago. Joe Lieberman is Jewish and he's one of the loudest voices trying to get rid of video games. It's not about religion. It's about control.

I see you have bought the Christians are innocent and persecuted and other religions are evil lie that so many preachers cram down the throats of the sheep who can't be bothered to learn their own history.

Spoiler, Christianity is just as bad if not worse than any other religion. I grew up in it, I studied it, I studied other religions and I almost became a preacher. Fortunately I opened my eyes and saw it for what it really is.

I bet they'd consider a sports game violent if it has a black male on the cover. Seems like the same kind of people that would burn games. Also, I wonder if any video games were made around Fahrenheit 451.

This is FUNNY! I mean that! I actually laughed! Thanks Stiletto!

As to responding to these ridiculous claims I really have no desire to smash them point by point. It just shows your complete lack of wanting to know the truth, so I will not waste my time disclaiming all this just for you to come back with "but, but, but!".

Doesn't matter what I say at this point, your brain has been formed around religion due to your indoctrination growing up in a Christian household (don't even need to know that this is true) so there for nothing I say will make any difference. Wouldn't matter what sources I give. How wrong I prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are. You simply won't take any of it in. You are incapable of doing so.

At this point I am done. You may respond if you wish, but you will not get anything back. Not because you are right or because I am frightened of your infinite knowledge of all things logical...it's just that I do not want to waste my time.

Compared to other religions, it's nothing. I already know what you've typed, and excuse me if I'm a bit more afraid of groups like radical Islam and Scientology. You know...the people who do actual harm.

Christianity doesn't cause harm...?

What was that anti-science law again? Oh yeah...it doesn't exist. In fact, science has been corrupted into a religion by many pseudo-intellectuals like yourself who enjoy dismissing all disagreement and skepticism as "flat-earther stupidity". "Science" isn't some closed group. Its a law unto itself (no I don't mean that in the Judge Dread way). Difference between science and religions is that science is more argumentative of itself as much as other schools of thought. "faith" is unnecessary in science yet so frequently needed in religion.

And yes...Christianity "promotes unprotected sex"...because they want people to have children. One could claim that the government does the same thing by marrying people.

Marriage has little to do with Childbirth (in this day and age).
It's harder to separate Abortions and Contraception from the topic of childbirth.
Having kids isn't always a good thing.

Joe Lieberman is Jewish and he's one of the loudest voices trying to get rid of video games.

Religious conservatives say what?

It's not about religion. It's about control.

...wait, and the difference is?

I see you have bought the Christians are innocent and persecuted and other religions are evil lie that so many preachers cram down the throats of the sheep who can't be bothered to learn their own history.

I'm not Christian, and I don't listen to preachers. I also know that almost all Christians I meet do not intend me harm. Can't say the same for the examples I listed. There's no "innocent" or "evil" about it. Some Christians are douchebags, like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and Bill Donohue. They're manipulative and pious assholes. However...when they turn into cultists who will physically attack you for questioning the actual tenets of their religion, let me know. Until then, I think I'll focus my attention on those that have.

Spoiler, Christianity is just as bad if not worse than any other religion. I grew up in it, I studied it, I studied other religions and I almost became a preacher. Fortunately I opened my eyes and saw it for what it really is.

Huh. So you used to be really into it, and now you're really out of it...and now you're bitter towards the entire faith. Shocker.

if time and resources weren't an issue, I would hire a private dick to dig up any dirt they can on these misguided pricks and then smear and shame them out of public office just out of principle. The ones who preach the loudest, tend to have the most skeletons in their closet, takes a thief to catch a thief.

your indoctrination growing up in a Christian household (don't even need to know that this is true)

It's not. My parents are agnostic, as am I. You've got a tremendously inflated ego, you know that? Let me isolate some phrases here:

As to responding to these ridiculous claims I really have no desire

so I will not waste my time

Doesn't matter what I say at this point

nothing I say will make any difference.

At this point I am done.

it's just that I do not want to waste my time.

Those pieces alone sure use a lot of time to tell me how little time I'm worth, let alone the rest of the bullshit you heaped on with a bulldozer.

Ah, the modern version of burning books, fantastic, how we have we fallen

I hope they stand extra close to the fire so the poisonous gas coming off the burning plastic/aluminum/zinc oxide mixture game disks are kills them

Christianity doesn't cause harm...?

The tenets of their religion do not bring their adherents to cause harm. The examples I listed have frequently brought their adherents to harm unbelievers and blasphemers.

"Science" isn't some closed group. Its a law unto itself (no I don't mean that in the Judge Dread way). Difference between science and religions is that science is more argumentative of itself as much as other schools of thought. "faith" is unnecessary in science yet so frequently needed in religion.

Science is a diverse field of schools of objective thought. The rules change as we learn more. Religion falls more under philosophy, which is a field of schools of abstract thought. Science and religion shouldn't really be compared, which is why I'm against the teaching of intelligent design in schools.

Marriage has little to do with Childbirth (in this day and age).

Having kids isn't always a good thing.

The entire purpose of marriage, despite its reckless use today, was to endorse children. Married couples get more tax breaks the more kids they have. And sure having kids isn't always a good thing but mistakes are made in every aspect of life. You won't know unless you try, and if everybody stopped trying, you'd have Children of Men.

...wait, and the difference is?

Give yourself a pat on the back and go watch Bill Maher some more.

"Rather, Southington SOS is saying is that there is ample evidence that violent video games, along with violent media of all kinds, including TV and movies portraying story after story showing a continuous stream of violence and killing, has contributed to increasing aggressiveness, fear, anxiety and is desensitizing our children to acts of violence including bullying."

If by ample evidence they mean -ZERO-.....

I find this amusing that they don't throw news and mainstream media in there along with...oh I don't know...the CONSTANT wars America has PUT ITSELF in (minus maybe the World Wars).

Fuck these assholes. It isn't violent media...it's violent people. I love how people like this try and act as if violence hasn't happened SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MAN and like how its only been since violent TV and video games have come out. They don't realize that just because you get rid of violent media doesn't mean violence will somehow just magically go away.

To the youth... why do you need an imaginary weapon i.e. AK47, assault weapons and unlimited supply of ammo to kill an imaginary enemy? Practice for reality? Or are you considering enlisting into the military? Is it fun to simulate killing and watching your enemy die? What educational purpose does violent video games serve?

So if they believe video games cause violence, and they're trying to take the video games, do they plan to have armed security to prevent the video game disposal from turning into a war zone? I wonder....

This is how Microsoft and Sony plan to enforce their no used games policy.

Not to mention the most violent school killing mass murder ever in america was done in the 1927's by some School worker who was pissed off the government was taking his farm, so he blew up his house and then blew up the school and blew up his car with himself in it

I'm sure that radical dangerous music of My Blue Heaven by Gene Austin or Valencina from Paul Whitman drove this man to murder

What is the fascination with inanimate objects?

First it's the guns fault, like it can pull it's own trigger.
Then it was a movies fault, like fiction is reality or something.
Now it's video games fault.

Why is it never the killers, and his parents fault?
