Got a buddy coming from out of state and he wants to game. He likes to but doesn't get near the time in that I do so pvp I would just rape him and it wouldn't be any fun.

Doesn't have to be a brand new AAA title or anything, just something we can LAN and work together at.

well, I didn't want to limit genre too much, shooters of course, but open to any suggestions

Borderlands 2 has one of the best co-ops ... You can probably get some keys for 20-30 bucks ... I played it with 2 friends and now we bought the DLC def a must play

isn't that still like $50 per key? Also, did they fix the stupid FOV from the first one?

Man where have you been?

Borderlands 2 was actually on sale the last few weeks all over and you can get it right now for $23.58 via : http://play-sc.com/Borderlands-2-PC-Download-Steam-Key.html?gclid=CJnPsKPTwLQCFcqY4AodJyUARg

You can toggle the FOV in the menu and Borderlands 2 is truly a totally better game all around than the first 1. Its also much easier to get a 4 player co-op going.

orcs must die 2
portal 2
medic + heavy in tf2
co-op in sniper elite 2

Torchlight 2 is a fun game. Splinter cell conviction is a great 2 player co op game with a great cover system.

thanks for the suggestions guys, ended up going for the L4D 4 pack

so now, how do I go about this? Do I have to create a new steam account for the other box and gift one of the keys over to that?

Newb question I know...sorry.

borderlands 2 for sure

and sadly, i dont want to admit it, but mod a minecraft server with bukkit and its insanely fun cant count how many hours i spend in tekkit building crazy factories :s

Yeah, not sure my #2 box is going to run BL2 that well, need answers above

you can try dungeon defender it a pretty fun tower defense game that you can use your avatar to build towers and they can help kill the mobs. It's similar to orcs must die

trine/trine 2. Can do split screen co-op also with them..

Sanctum is really fun co-op. It is a tower defense FPS. You build a maze of towers, upgrade them, everything in a normal tower defense, but you also have guns and help kill the creep as they go through. It uses the Unreal Engine and it is beautiful. Pretty cheap on steam.

Dead Island has decent co-op. Playing Saints Row: The Third now and its actually pretty fun for co-op (even though its cheesy as all hell).

Saints row is awesome if you can dig the (ridiculously) over the top absurdity. It throws you right into the comical awesomeness though and you're a badass from the get go, it's straight drop in co-op.

This about sums up my experiences http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNC3rYat0Rk

Dead island is imo a pile of horse shit though

Yes, you'd have to setup a second steam account and gift one of the L4D keys to it. Even though you have multiple keys right now, Steam won't like you being logged in and playing the same game from multiple computers.

You should not have to remove any of your existing Steam installs to log in as the second account. Steam a quick FAQ on gifting out packs: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php ? ref = 4502-TPJL-2656
(edit, url code doesn't seem to like query string parms).

Probably best if you use your friend's email and everything to setup the new steam account that way he can essentially take it home and play whenever.

This,

They need to remove the head Bob and fix a few other things ffs.

Edit: I would go with L4D2 and dungeon defenders personally.

+1 for Borderlands 2.

the game is great!
Get it on sale for $25 or buy a key from the FS/FT forum for $25.

Dungeon Defenders is fun co-op as well.

+1 billion for Borderlands 2. Most co-op fun I've had in ages. I REALLY recommend BL2.

Borderlands 2 is pretty a popular pick and makes for decent long term-ish play. Your pick of L4D is good for quick jump in and kill things mode. But I have to ask, why play games like this that can be done online when your friend is coming over from out of state? Would almost say an RTS type game or an old school console game would fit such an occasion better, aside from the usual go out and hangout doing things thing. just my few cents.

Well, It worked out pretty well. Got another thread going here with our impressions of L4D2.

Frankly, the #2 rig only (only?) has a single 6950 and I was not sure Borderlands2 would run well on it. I played through the first borderlands and while it was fun, hacking the FOV pissed me the fuck off. I know they supposedly fixed that but it just left a bad taste.

I do like RTS games, but everybody else likes 3d shooters.

tldr, we had a blast, thanks everyone

Most of the ones already mentioned is what I recommend as well.

L4D is my top favorite. (4 players co-op or 8 players (4v4)) Lots of custom campaigns, but you have to manually install them to play.

Killing Floor is another fun co-op game. 6 players co-op. Lots and I do mean A LOT of custom maps to play, will auto install when you connect/join the server so it's easy to check out new levels/maps. Has a bit of a learning curve though, since you have to level up different perks for each class. Still fun even as a beginner, just don't go try to play Hell on Earth.

Serious Sam series. [Serious Sam The First Encounter, Serious Sam The Second Encounter, Serious Sam 3 Before First Encounter] Are all very, very fun co-op games. Up to 16 players can play co-op. Probably one of my most played LAN party games of all time (The first two) and pretty sure the third one will be ranked up there as well.

Portal 2. It's just 2 player co-op, but it's fun figuring out the puzzles/levels with a friend. I recommend both parties at least playing solo first to learn how to play, even go as far as playing the first one just to get in on the whole story.

Trine and Trine2 are good co-op. Magicka is also fun, though the controls take a bit to get used to. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a realy fun co-op platformer too.

Borderlands 2
Torchlight 1 or 2
Trine 1 or 2
Farcry 3
of you like RTS games Dawn of War 2 is great
Magicka
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
Portal 2

Deadspace 3 when it comes out next month if you want something fresh to the gaming scene. I know people have there doubts but I think it looks great. My brother and I are looking very much forward to it.

I'll be hitting up Dead Space 3 for sure, nothing I'm looking more forward to than that at the moment. Co Op games should be more abundant.
