Can't wait to get BF3 once I'm finished building my PC. Hoping it's as good as BF2 was (Aka BF2 that came out in 2002, not Bad Company)

thought someone could shed some light on a situation I'm having with my wife's copy of bf3?

Ive googled and googled to no resolve. I upgraded my wife from an amd quad core (AM2 board)all was operation gaming wise prior to upgrading her to an i5 2500k gigabyte z68x-ud3h-b3 16 gb of gskill memory 128 m4 6870 xfx video card.

When I reformatted her rig and installed bf3(after all of the windows updates) when I click a server the computer goes through the motions of starting the game up but it hangs on initializing. If I click the bf3 icon it opens up to a quarter window white screen of bf3 but it is unresponsive but 100% cpu usage. I have to alt-cntl-del to kill bf3 or it will just sit there stuck. I reformatted, I removed her game from the cloud storage, Heck I even tried windows 8 on her machine.
I copied my working version of the game(both legit store bought copies) and paste it over her bf3 folder.

Well, to be quite honest this thing is much more like BC2 than it is BF2. Not to say thats a bad thing. but judging on the original commenter's post. hes not really looking for something lke bc2.
 
I'm trying really hard to like this game so I don't feel like I've wasted $45, but accompanied with all of the dumb, dumb design decisions in this game that piss me off to no end, now I am getting CTDs and server disconnects.

The saddest part is that BF3 is the best current FPS being played. It only gets worse after BF3.

I think there alot more aimbotters in this game than people think. We remember that "good guy hacker" reddit post awhile back?

People just aren't obvious about it. All you have to do is pay the slightest bit of attention and you can see it. Almost 300 hours in I know what's possible and what isn't. I see most botters tend to stay in vehicles, especially the chopper gunner.

You also gotta remember to take your observations with a grain of salt. It tales multiple things to make me think someone is hacking, but I assure you they are out there.

I have one example on my YouTube channel and after showing the admins of the server the blatant hacking they wouldn't ban the guy. Terrible.

Anyway I feel your pain lol.
 
Yeah there are certainly people cheating. Especially some of the vehicles. Chopper gunners can be especially wtf? at times. I can still have fun with the game and stay pretty high up on the scoreboard regardless. I just don't get butthurt whenever a game goes south. Aka don't take it too seriously and have fun or don't play it.
 
Loving Aftermath at the moment, and like lots of people here I'm really digging the maps!

I have BC2 for xbox and love it. I just can't wait to get back to the 64 player servers, air planes, clans, etc like BF2 had. Bf2 is the only one I've played on PC
 
Yes BF3 is not BF2 with better graphics. Its it's own game. Fun in it's own right. I've been addicted since it dropped 10/2011.

Should I be able to run BF3 on Ultra settings...

With:
Phenom II X4 960T @4.2ghz
MSI Twin Frozr 7950 @ 1000/1350
16gigs DDR3 1600
@1920x1200?

Just asking cause I could have sworn when I first tried when I got my 7950 I couldn't but I just spent an hour playing on Metro on a full 64player server on ultra..Was getting 89+ FPS...

Edit: Figured thought maybe it was just that map. Switched to a server on Caspian Border and I am getting 50ish FPS. Still.... I think that's good right?

You're gonna get mixed responses. Seems some people like them, and some do not. I for instance think buying premium was a waste.

The close quarters expansion is decent, but not perfect. Gimmiky gun game mode, a sometimes frustrating spawn system, and stupid server admins that throw these maps into their 64mam rotation

I was excited for armored kill but jt turns out its my least favorite of all so far. It seems like I can't walk 10 ft without getting killed by a tank, air vehicle, some bomber, or something from way across the map. It infuriates me. I doesn't suit my playstyle in the slightest.

Aftermath to me seems like call of duty. And to paraphrase the genius Sheldon Cooper: in a world that already has a call of duty,why would I settle for something LIKE a call of duty?

I'm interested to see what end game is like though. Always keeping an open mind.
 
For some reason can't connect to any game today ? Will try to load up and then say "GAME DISCONNECTED: Could Not Join Server"

Says that on a dozen different servers I have tried. But my internet works fine, was just playing Planetside2 no problem.

Just tried to play BF3 again, no dice :( Tried like 6 other servers, all the same error again, will not connect.

I have about 650 hours of play time and just about every match I get called a "fat nerd hacker".

Not sure how thats DICE's fault? You could of lagged, or someone spawned on the guy in front of you?.

What I have noticed lately in BF3, if someone is better then you, or something doesnt make sense....It's always a hack.

I have gone 40-5 before...been banned from a server from hacking. Guess they didnt see my game before were I went 19-25....

Either way the BA bolt for the crossbow ROCKS
 
Bf3 is a shitty game in its design.
its beyond me how they could go from Bf2 to BF3 and totally mess it up.

I get accused of hacking basically everytime I play and I play Bc2 from time to time and I like to say, "your not as good as you think sonny". I tried to stay with BF3 but the game simply sucks so much and dice/ea wont get any more money from me. I did read a dev from dice said none want to run a long distance on a map and I thougt, Kids who cant design games....simple behavioural design they cant do anymore.
Not sure what happen between Bf2 and BF3 but they changed their principles.
Hope they go away as a game developer.
 
The problems with BF3 like terrible spawns and poor netcode will never be fixed. Same goes for COD. EA and Activision treat developers like DICE, IW, Treyarch, etc. like sweatshops, ordering them to pump out games and paid-DLC as fast as possible. There is no time to fix glaring issues with the game, simply because all of the time, resources and manpower is allocated to DLC and squirting out the sequel.

We will never get another game like BF2, because publishers simply will not allow the time for them to be developed.

Planetside 2 ? It is an excellent game with great team work and communication. On the same level as BF 2142 though I preferred 2142 art style teamwork in PS2 is way stronger.
 
If I were to buy BF3 Premium Edition, how much space would the base game + all DLC take up? Thanks!

I don't know if guys in vehicles are cheating, I can get in the attack chopper as a gunner and whore it up as long as I have a good pilot, but it's just hilarious when your on an infantry map like Talah Market, there's a group of high scorers on the map, maybe 5 or 6 who all finish with around 50 kills and 20 deaths, but then there's the one elephant in the room who goes 100+ kills and like 20 deaths. I mean gimme a fucking break, more than twice as many kills as anyone else on a map like that. I like to call them the "discrete hackers" since they won't go 100-1 because that's way too obvious now.

There's more people that cheat in this game than most people would care to acknowledge.

I don't know, I can rack up pretty ridiculous scores on infantry only/primary maps. I forget the name, the vanilla market map, I've been around 60-5, 70-8 on a few occassions. When you run as a medic, you kill a few folks, heal back up to full, rinse/repeat. As long as you're smart about it, it actually isn't that difficult sometimes. Stay away from walls so splash from RPG/m320 isn't as much as a threat, and cut the pie.

Yep the "discrete hackers" are the ones that I hate. Nothing worse then a good player using wallhacks that's very smart with them and doesn't make it obvious.

I've heard you really just never know who is wallhacking unless you yourself are using hacks. I always give people the benefit of the doubt that they are legit players though, that's just me. My friend on the other hand loves calling out hax. I can't count how many times he has alt tabbed outta game to check stats and run players name in cheat DB's.

I consider myself just an average good player with 800spm and a 2.1 kdr, but I often become the "elephant" of the room in infantry maps and will double the score and kills of everyone else in the server and eventually get called out for hacking when I do it a few times in a row, but when that happens what I do is add that person calling me out for hax to my friends list and play together with them and they soon realize I'm just a regular average good player.

Off topic of cheating, but I'm loving the XBOW... been using it as my primary the last couple of days.
 
Before you buy the game you should know that there is no practical VOIP in the game. You can friend invite people and then chat through the frickin web server browser, g'luck getting that to happen though.

You should also know that the game basically sucks in every important way (the game is clearly coded for the 24-player console limit), and is nothing more than a huge advertisement for Frostbite 2. It won't get any better, because DICE is just a game farm now with no time or permission to make excellent games with good netcode anymore.

Did they fix the 10 metre player draw distance and fuck-awful hit detection?

I was referring to these military-themed FPS games that are churned out with practically no quality control to maximise profit. It is ridiculous that money-grabbing greed is now actively damaging product quality. The only way to combat it is to stop buying this fucking garbage every year.

D*MN KNIFERS!!! Several times in the last few games, i get killed and it shows the guy that killed me getting knifed. JUST SHOOT! Don't sacrifice your teammates for your ego!!!

On the other hand, if you're on the enemy team. Go ahead and knife. I usually get two or three kills if i just ignore the guy running towards me.
