Sometimes it’s good to be just standard and ‘standard’ Internet service customers with Time Warner are the proof. TWC has decided to up the speed of its standard tier Internet service by 50% at no extra cost to the subscriber. Merry Christmas. :D

Netflix earlier this month released data on which ISPs delivered the fastest average Netflix streams and found that Time Warner Cable ranked seventh behind services such as Google Fiber, Verizon FiOS and Comcast.

NO! We need net neutrality because if we let evil corporashunz make their own decisions, they'll just raise all our prices and take away access and limit availability and...okay, I know that's not what just happened, but dammit, I NEED TO VALIDATE MY PARANOIA!!!

Holy crap, they were only at 10Mbps for Standard? And I thought Australia had bad internet...

Please Note, they have increased both my download and upload by exactly 50%.

TWC Subscriber here.

TWC subscriber here too. The email stated an official boost of 10/1 subscribers to 15/1... They sent me this email even though I am a 20/2 subscriber and got no peak advertised speed increase down or up.

They should give some love to those of us paying more for higher speeds. I'm paying for the extreme which is 30/5.

Just ran speed test to see if they did help out it's extreme subscribers. Nope, same as it has been.

Does TWC have monthly data caps and have they been raised along with the bandwidth limits?

Otherwise the extra speed does nothing other than allow you to hit your cap faster.

20/2 here no caps.

they called me saying if i wanted to upgrade to this hear in california.. they said it only applies if you have tv? but i may be wrong! my speeds seem the same :/ although my router is holding me back..

No caps here. At least I have never hit any and I used quite a bit of bandwidth.

I would be happy if I got the 30/5 speeds I pay for instead of the far less that I actually get. I could stream 720 and 1080 streams on charter np, but a 720 YouTube video is unwatchable without 10 minutes of buffer, and forget live streams.

No idea why I keep paying for this shit.

Troll or Idiot?

I generally hit 30-35 down and anywhere from 1.5-3.5 up....depending
The fastest I've ever seen a cable modem get is 108 down (don't remember the up), of course I'm sure that wasn't cheap though. Typical speeds I see range from 22-26 down. Sometimes I'll see 36-38 down.

I havent gotten an email about this.. and im a TWC subscriber on the 30/5 plan...but today is a lagfest... so cant test it worth a damn anyway...

pay for 10/1, have gotten 20/1 all year.

no caps, mind you.

Give me 10/2 dammit. or 5/5. something with upload speed.

Twc doesnt have caps and doesnt throdle. The 10/1 went to 15/1 no other speed tiers got a bump. We are in the process of switching some analog channels over to digital so we could free up more room on the limited cable band. So we can provied more hd channels and faster speed tiers later on. Faster speeds are comming.

Odd that a company bitching about not having the infrastructure or that people that are torrenting are ruining the internet speeds with just a flip of the switch can up everyone's speed by 5mb. Huh, isn't that weird?

Yep. Also weird that my smartphone gets faster up/down speeds than the $85 a month internet I pay for in my house. Good thing I have choices! I can choose between TWC or nothing at all!

I have road runner, which is TWC. I still only get 8mbs up even though I am supposed to get 10....

Read the terms of service, understand it, then notify the better business bureau if there is a discrepancy...most likely they state UP TO 10 mbps... its shitty i know...but consumer laws are still non existent...

All this means that these assholes have enough bandwidth to do that without ripping people off (which ALL ISP's in this country are)... BTW, I've had 20/1.5 speeds for over a year now, which "coincidentally" happened around the time Google announced it's coming to Kansas City... Hmmm.. Can you say: Time Warner shit bricks! As soon as my neighborhood becomes "fiberhood" TW is going bye, bye!!!

Yep cable cos are used to having local monopolies, where they just sit on capabilities. As soon as someone tries to compete everyone gets a bump. In most big cities where people have options cable providers are giving people 50 mbs, every where else 16-20 or less. They just try to stay faster than the average DSL

While more bandwidth is great and all but not many sites will serve you that much bandwidth regardless of tier. Latency sensitive apps will definitely like this though.

I will also add that unlike most others cables bandwidth is only max and often they use that boost BS to make it look faster than it can sustain. If you think about a single site, sure you might only get 400K but when you have multiple connections which is very common now days you can eat up alot of bandwidth. On top of that the upload is even more important and since they will only serve more upload to clients who pay for far more download you are often forced to buy into larger packages.

If you have a family with 4 people all connecting alot, plus throwing in peer to peer, which even things like start craft and steam will do, you can really use more bandwidth.

Wow damn that sucks, for you guys, I was on 5/1 for awhile it was quite good coming from 3/.765. They doubled the speeds last year, so it came 10/1. That was awesome. I upgraded to turbo, which it came to 15/1. That was the sweet spot, but they upgraded my speeds, its alot faster now. Im not sure if its 50 percent fast, but I am prolly at 20/1 i think. I used to grab stuff at 1.6 mb/s at 15/1, now I am at 2.4 mb/s. Thats a hell of a difference. Heck thats 50 percent increase to think about it. Lol I might be at 22.5/1. haha
