We are trying to install winXP pro old original disk and license on a new system.
The problem is windows craps out and blue screens on this system.
H77 chipset etc

Is there a place to dl xp pro with full sp3 integrated, maybe an iso that could be installed from a flash drive?

After the install and license is done we will call ms and update it to win8 64 bit pro

Yeah, there's no need to install an OS prior to installing an 'Upgrade' version of 7 or 8. The 'Upgrade' is that you are paying a fee to upgrade the license, the OS itself is totally installed from scratch.

You can install Windows 8 Pro Upgrade on a completely blank drive and be fine. That's what I did and it activated without issue.

So you are saying to use win8 upgrade on a blank drive and it will only ask for the original xp serial number not an installed xp?

We were going to buy the dl upgrade from microsoft can we do this with the win8 dl ?
Can you upgrade a xp 32bit to win8 64 bit?

If you do it through the "Upgrade Assistant" it's going to download you the 32 bit version of Windows 8 since you're on a 32 bit version of XP. I happened to be in the same position, I wanted to run on 64 bit, so what I did was after I purchased Windows 8 through that $15 promotion, I simply downloaded the official 64 bit version of Windows 8 that was hosted on TechNet.

File name: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso

So I burned that and used the DVD instead of the upgrade assistant, and then used the serial that was provided to me when I purchased Windows 8 and it worked like a charm on an empty formatted drive. Activated.

So is there some way around the $200&up cost of a Technet subscription?
