Hi,

Looking for a little advice to replace some speakers, I currently have a set of Logitech Z-2300. I have no complaints at all about them but moving to a setup where I would like to have a new set without a sub. Takes up too much space so looking at what my best options would be.

Not overly insane about speakers, used for gaming/random music while at computer/etc.

Willing to spend upto $250. Not sure if something like Bose companion 20 is worth it, or maybe even cheaper companion 2?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

id say go with a pair of smaller powered monitors unless you dont really need the bass. The bose companions are nice im just not a fan of the bose products.

The A2 are somewhat overpriced unless you really need to go that small and don't have the space for larger speakers... And anything Bose is generally grossly overpriced for what you get (much more so than the Audioengines even). If you want something that's still relatively compact but also as good as those A2, take a look at Samson's Studiodock 3a or 4a, you can get them for like $100-120.

On the other hand, if you want a better low end and better all around sound, you can make the most of that $250 budget with something like the Infinity Primus P153 / P163 ($130-150 at Crutchfield if you use a $20-off code, possibly cheaper elsewhere) plus a $100 Topping t-amp. There's numerous other combinations of passive bookshelf speakers and amps, I think that one's ideal given the budget and the fact that they're front ported which makes placement easier.

There's a lot of powered monitors you can look at in that price range too (just take a trip to Guitar Center), I just find passives to be more versatile as far as future uses/repurposing or even replacement if something breaks.

I think you'd be surprised at the difference in sound between any of those alternatives and the Logitech speakers you have... They won't shake the rafters without a sub, but the overall sound will be far more accurate and detailed.

Best computer speakers are regular near field active monitors you can find from any audio equipment stores.

In fact, anything labeled as 'computer speakers' is garanteed to sound like crap.

In regards to the Audioengine A2 idea, I hear that that Audyssey Lower East Side is a better option for about the size. It appears to be less expensive as well.
