Does anyone have any experience with the HP 1910 series switches?

I'm considering getting the 1910-8G PoE+ (65W) for home and the big issues are advanced layer 2/3 features such as VLANs and SNMP and how quiet they are.

I believe they are re branded 3COM, has anyone had any issues with them? I can't find any on ebay, are they new, or discontinued? I believe new.

I wouldn't mind the 16 port version tbh, but I'm not sure how loud that will get, the 8 port looks quite small and no room for a loud fan (wishful thinking) and the 16port is standard rack size, even though both claim to have variable speed fans for "desktop" use.

Any info guys :)

You could always change the fans in it, if they are loud and make them quiet..

you could say I'm not a FAN of doing that

.....

nah :) I just need to HEAR some objective opinions on the noise levels.

I'm buying the 8/16 port brand new at NCIX and I can deff return them if they don't work out, its just I don't want the hassle

if you lived close id take the 4 screws out and spend the 4 min doing it for you for free...

I totally get where you're coming from dude, I do, being that I'd be one to dish out the same advice to others, but here are the reasons I'd like to avoid such a thing.

First and most importantly I don't want to spend 400$ on a brand new switch that I'd have to modify

Second I'm a stickler for fan noise for my personal equipment, which sits a few feet away, instead of spending time looking for a switch with low enough noise levels, I'll be looking for fans with low enough noise levels before even getting to the right switch

and finally I'd love to tinker with it and all, but time is a constraint, not to mention the fact that buying it brand new and then ripping it apart (most likely) will kill the warranty that will come with it....

This will just be a more advanced switch for my humble and on-going home network, my cisco lab gets loud enough as it is, but thank goodness for it not having to be on all the time....

that or I wouldn't mind a fanless 8pt 3560 if you have one kicking around ;)
