Planetside 2

I think they are going to need to do some population balancing, the population on Connery is:
Commies:37%
Smurfs: 35%
Barneys: 28%
I think the proper term for the Terran Republic is "Elmo's", not commies. It better fits the childish theme. :p

The factions have similar populations. If you have played NC you'll know that most of their guns have an insane cone of fire while having long reload times and barely doing any more damage than the other faction's weapons. A foregrip and compensator are pretty much required on all NC guns so NC players have to pay 200 certs per weapon just to get on even ground with the other factions. The devs have said that they are looking at the NC guns because of this inbalance.

I friggin hope so. The weapon imbalance is just retarded.

Anyone know why I'm only getting 30 FPS? If you take a look at my video I'm only using around 30%.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiDpWho1x_4

Could be drivers?

not drivers, its 100% game related, games severely CPU limited even though the engine its self is designed to use all the cores available. the developers failed to code the game correctly to use the feature so its heavily IPC/clock dependent. which is kind of sad because even with my 8800GT's i can still run everything on high and continue to hold 30fps constant.

but hey at least they made the game playable at 30fps unlike during the beta where anything under 50fps was a friggin slide show.

I play NC and at this moment I enjoy sniper long range and light assault. Any recommendations of what I shall buy for those 2 classes?

Weapons and upgrades vise?

Has anyone tried the upgraded guns on the galaxy (save for the grenade launcher). I suppose that just leaves the AA. Is it worth it?

i7? unpark your cpu

(google it)

I tried it and it did nothing.

Go into your useroptions.ini file and set it to match this and it should improve the graphical quality AND boost your FPS. I get 60fps most of the time with drops to aound 45 in big battles on a 4Ghz i7 and GTX670.

thats my fps too was hoping for a little bit better but whatever. still looks really good and is pretty playable even with the drops

I just started playing the game yesterday for a little bit. My only issue with the game right now is there seems to be a serious amount of camping. Either assaulting or defending, both sides seem to do a lot of sitting behind cover, popping out, take a shot, back to cover, trying to avoid vehicle fire and snipers. Eventually something cracks and one side takes over in a mad rush. Am I wrong on this? ....or just a few bad fights?

Have noticed this as well. Probably less prevalent if you run with an outfit instead of the zerg, though.

I still crash every time I exit.... happening since early beta.

In the PS2 launcher try running the verify files feature. Don't use the steam verify feature if you use steam to launch the game. Not sure if it will help but its worth a try.

I think it's more or less due to the number of players. There are just too many foes that can fire at you at any given moment, so putting yourself out in the open in the middle of battle is a sure death sentence. You can run out there but you'll have to constantly use cover as you move around. Believe me, all the sides are trying to advance to capture that base, not only for the capture experience, but because then your side will be able to load up on a ton of vehicles in that region and move onto the next capture. Tactical fighting is not the same thing as camping.

Sometimes your side has the numbers to zerg rush a base in under 20 minutes. Other times there will be a stalemate for hours.

What kind of gameplay you expected otherwise when there are 6000 per continent fighting? :)

I am actually enjoying certain aspects of this game now.. I will admit I just blew it off when it first came around. The concept is wonderful though I am just not used to the game 100%.

I actually prefer the smaller battles in this game. I have the most fun when it's just me and 5 to 20 faction members defending an early push into our base. 50ish on 50ish is great fun too. The big battles can be amazing but I don't really feel like I matter at all when I'm in a 200+ person Goon swarm.

I thought the same thing until I loaded up an infiltrator and snuck around the biolab and picked off about 15 opposing faction people, giving my team a chance to break out onto the aircraft landing spot and eventually down to the lower warp beacon thing

After we totally defended the place I felt like a war hero

Y'all should check out the planetside subreddit - jsmeds is pretty active over there. Account wide unlocks for station cash are now confirmed to be coming.

Pretty sweet that SOE really wants to make this into a game that the players have an active voice in. I swore them off after cats on the moon but they're slowly winning me over.

Are you kidding? These settings are terrible! I tried them and my framerates started to crawl to unplayable level. Then I returned my settings back to Medium and Shadows to Low and I can play very well. I guess settings below is just an obvious trolling.

I still enjoy the other battles but I don't get the same rush as when there are 10 of us getting ready to leave small base and the enemy pushes 20 infantry, a few tanks, and air support to our front door.

Or your system doesn't have a decent video card. Those settings have been posted all over the internet (Planetside forums, SA forums, Reddit, etc.) and serve to help push the bottleneck from the CPU to the GPU. Hit Alt-F during gameplay and it will bring up a FPS counter and show whether the CPU or GPU is doing the majority of the work.

I get a near constant 60fps (it would go higher but I set the max framerate to 60) with small dips into the mid-40s during huge Goon swarms. With medium or high settings I'd drop down into the lower-mid 30s which does not feel good at all in this game IMO.

I have 5870 ok i5 2500k overclocked to 4GHz and these settings delivers much lower FPS then standard Medium settings.

I used that FPS counter before but wasn't sure what the CPU/GPU means. So if it says GPU it is doing the work and is the "bottleneck" at the time? I seen it bounce between the two.

Those settings are generally considered to be "Ultra" quality. I would have thought they would help a 5870 but perhaps it's hobbled by drivers, is a 1GB VRAM model (I haven't checked to see how much VRAM PS2 is using), or is just too old (It IS 3 gens old now) at this point.

That is the way I understand it.

How do I set the graphics options for AA and AF ? Can't find it in-game menu ? Or do I need to go back to my nVidia control panel and set in there each time I play PS2 ?

I see it a lot. The tech plants are the worst for this since there are only a few ways in: through 1 of 2 unshielded doorways on one end, 10 feet of unshielded doorway at the vehicle entrance that only the light assaults can fly over, or by using a Sunderer with a shield breaker.

However, there are other times when the combat completely changes. Usually when a really organized outfit comes along. I play with the Enclave on Matherson any chance I get. These guys are extremely coordinated, and there are a fuckton of them. Every MAX gets an engineer assigned to them, and there is a medic for every 5 guys. When they roll in, it isn't like a slow wave of guys and the attacking force gets larger. It is 100+ guys all at once from land and air completely coordinated and timed.

I rode in a Sundy with the Enclave the other day. They were mowing down an entire map. At one point they rolled into one of the smaller tower bases that has the turrets and landing pads on it, overwhelmed it in less than a minute. They then left part of the team there (mostly AA maxes and engi's) to finish the capture and rolled down the hill to the huge AMP station. They went 4 different directions, overloaded all 4 generators at once, then swarmed the inside within 2 minutes.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/30/pla...ear-plan-wants-to-run-until-2025-if-possible/

Over on Smedley’s blog, he explained, “We have games that have run for over 13 years, so when we’re making Planetside 2 we aren’t looking at what it’s like in 2012. We’re thinking about a game we plan to have running in 2025.

“We have a 3 year plan. That’s really big. We plan on putting that out to the users at some point in the near future. This isn’t some “vision” we plan on imparting on our players. It’s our thoughts on what we think would be cool.

“We will listen to our users feedback and make changes based on that feedback. We think we have some killer ideas but our players have pretty good ones too! I want to be super clear here – these are just some of the ideas. The team has a ton.”

Smedley then listed the team’s ideas:

Player Owned bases – we plan on releasing continents that are empty or partially empty where players can build their own bases. These are open world bases so others will be able to attack them. We’re also planning on having these continents heavily resource based with new resource types that will be very rare..and lots of cool new stuff that can be built out of these new resources.
Harvestable resources – imagine SC II style resource harvesting with physical vehicles doing the mining or the harvesting.
Water between continents – seamlessly – this is really hard tech, but our goal is to make the whole planet seamless and allow water based vehicles.
Lots more vehicles and weapons – just what it sounds like. Many of these will take very rare resources to make.
NPC enemies – I don’t want to call this PVE. That’s not exactly what we have in mind. More like a global invasion that goes after everybody. This isn’t a bunch of quest givers saying “go kill 10 rats” – this is bad ass aliens that want to gut you.
NPC armies – imagine as the commander of a base sending an NPC army towards another base MOBA style except it’s in the middle of the Planetside 2. This isn’t another game mode. It’s all part of the same game.
Esports support – we plan on doing this pretty soon after launch. We plan on making this a big big thing and putting a lot of our resources behind it.
Weather
Mac version (soon after launch).
So it’s no secret that Smedley and SOE are playing a long game with Planetside 2. Have you been playing it? Can it sustain for three more years, let alone the 13 Smedley is aiming for? Let us know below.

Also take a look at this fucking thing:

And here is some good reads from smed on the topic of account wide SC unlocks:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/13zsi0/make_sc_purchases_account_wide_we_have_some/

We are looking into this seriously. I would say we are over the "should we" part of the argument and into the "how can we" part. We've been reading the threads about this and it's fair to say we agree with the point of view that a lot of things you purchase should be account wide.
Do not read this as "this is going to be in tomorrow". It's a significant amount of work. It sounds simple but there are a lot of ramifications and systems this touches under the hood.
When we do this we'll make sure it's retroactive to stuff you've already purchased that falls under the account wide category. Obviously there are simple issues like empire specific weapons.. etc. That's where a lot of the complications come from.
But we're looking closely at this and hope to announce something fairly soon.
Thanks
Smed

Wanted to add something else - why did we do it the way we did in the first place? Many people speculate it's because we're greedy. Actually it's really about how we thought of it - we really thought about it the way we do it for our other MMOs which are mostly RPGs. In those sorts of games you're buying for your character and it's just been a common thing that whatever you buy you buy for your character. Also the empire specific guns are an issue.
In reading the forums after we launched and seeing people's reaction to how we implemented it it really opened our eyes to how differently the community viewed that
To put this simply - we have no qualms about telling you when we are doing something specifically to make money. That was not this case. We genuinely thought about it differently and apparently we were wrong.
We're not going to ever feel bad about making money on this game. We just want you to feel good about what you're paying for and feel like we're giving you a fair shake. If you don't, please continue to speak up. We are listening as you can see.

FWIW, that blog entry is from three months ago. The NPC remark made me cringe though, I seriously hope that never happens. I feel there is enough action anywhere on the map at any time to hold my interests, I don't need NPCs involved as well.

The only npcs I wouldn't mind are npcs at the faction warp gates for tutorials

Otherwise I agree, keep them the fuck out

Maybe an alien invasion might be cool and everyone needs to band together. Imagine a red v blue v purple v alien free for all? Shit, might be cool.

Should we get a group going on one main server? What does the average [H]'er play as and on what server?

I still haven't committed myself to one server/class yet. I am partial to TR, but if there are a lot on other factions, I'm game!
