The year is almost out. Tons of great games already out. A few more coming in the next few weeks.

You can cheat and have a shortlist like I will. What are you all looking at?

Go for it.

For me in no particular order yet:

Borderlands 2, AC3, Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs...and lol I can't believe I'm going to write this but based on what people are saying in the latter parts of the PC thread...I'll keep the jury out on Far Cry 3. Yeah, I know.

Definitely Assassin's Creed 3, and I'll throw Hitman on my own list, I just have to add it on there.

ZombieU and Dishonored need a mention. Let's not forget Borderlands 2!

Dark souls

The only game that deserves the title. It's in a class of its own and nothing comes close last year this year and probably for years to come.

I don't play a lot of recent games because I am cheap, but Planetside 2 would be my pick right now for GoTY.

While not perfect, it offers gameplay that you simply can't get anywhere else.

Borderlands 2 perhaps, but I need to try AC3 and FC3. Not a fan of dishonored or darksouls. (personal opinion)

Dark Souls.

Avernum: Escape from the Pit was also pretty decent.

Didn't play much else that was new this year.

A shout out to the content restored 1.8 version for KotOR2.

I haven't had a chance to play as many games released this year as I would have liked since I'm trying my best to clear out my backlog of games I actually enjoy playing.

I look forward to playing AC3, FC3, Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Black Ops 2, Darksiders 2, & Dark Souls though :)

So many contenders. So far I can only think of Sleeping Dogs and Borderlands 2 as a possibly GOTY that I have actually played. Still haven't gotten around to AC3, Far Cry 3, Dark Souls, Torchlight 2, etc.

Dishonored seems like an alright game from what I have played so far but it's not GOTY IMO. Same with Hitman: Absolution, which I am actually enjoying a lot more than Dishonored.

Maybe let's throw Farming Simulator 2013 on there as well... :D

Oh boy no fooling? Farming!?

I almost forgot about Sleeping Dogs. Game kicked proverbial ASS.

EDIT: Max Payne 3...I liked that too. Want to add it to my list.

Man I can't think of anything really. In fact I've really had trouble coming up with anything worth discussing this last month. maybe I'm getting old.

Borderlands 2 was just more Borderlands. It just didn't have that fresh feeling a sequel should have. I really didn't like that they dialed down the ammo & health. Borderlands 2 felt like a step back in that the perks were dialed down as well to pad out the game. I'm about halfway through and already bored with it.

I'm gonna be that one guy on the internet but I feel like Orcs Must Die and Payday: The heist deserve endless praise unfortunately both came out Christmas of 2011. I know a lot of people just don't seem to get PDTH but if you play with me I guarantee I can show you a good time. No recent shooter compares in Teamwork importance. I haven't quite finished OMD so I can't tell you anything about OMD2. dammit so did Portal 2.

I got nothing. I can't think of any games that have really impressed me this year somebody throw me bone.

Oh Black Ops II! .....ppsssshhh just kidding :D

My top picks...

Mass Effect 3 (Don't care what you say I loved it)
Starhawk
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
The Last Story
Sleeping Dogs
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Dishonored
XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Still yet to play...

Journey
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Unfinished Swan
The Walking Dead
Borderlands 2
Assassin's Creed III
Hitman: Absolution
Far Cry 3

... o_O

Anyway.

Yeah, I haven't really to play much Payday but it seemed like a pretty great concept. Eventually I might be down to play some co-op, just haven't had a ton of gaming time lately.

You're old. Sorry. :D

Payday the heist? Really? I ought to take you out back and beat you silly.

HOTLINE MIAMI.

That's right. I said it.
Tops everything. EVERYTHING.

Stay off the ganja. Lmao.

Borderlands 2 and Sleeping Dogs for me. In spite of some flaws, both were a blast to play from beginning to end.
One game people might overlook is Uncharted Golden Abyss on the Vita. It's just as good as the console versions.
Dishonored seems cool, but I just can't get going. I start to pick it up, but it loses my interest once the actual real game begins. Assassin's Creed 3 might be great, but the pacing is weird. One minute I'm having a blast, the next minute it seems like I'm wasting time.

I haven't played too many 2012 games this year. Of those I have played, my GOTY would be either Borderlands 2 or Orcs Must Die! 2

If we include any game I've played in 2012, my personal GOTY would be Deus Ex: HR or Bastion.

Without a doubt Mass Effect 3 for me... the atrocious ending doesn't scrub the other 99.99% of fantastic gameplay.

Oh, true, ME3 was good as well. I forgot about quite a few games...maybe that makes them not GOTY for me, because they were forgettable? :p

So far for me:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Dark Souls

edit: I too have FC3 pre-ordered and am looking forward to playing it...I still need to finish Sleeping Dogs and Hitman:Abs also...way too many great games being released these days.

Diablo 3.

Aww yeah let the hate train get in here! (I'm just kidding by the way, the game is too boring for that).

For now, probably Dishonored.

Thankfully there was a lot more to play this year than the cookie-cutter shooter-of-the-month.

- DOTA 2 - I got it late last year but only in January/February did it open up to enough people/friends for me to really start playing it, so I'm counting it for 2012. Coming up on 500 hours played and I'm still learning something every game.
- FTL
- Hotline Miami - Also best soundtrack
- The Walking Dead
- Journey

I'm not very far into ZombiU but I'm pretty sure it'll end up on this list as well. Diablo 3 is close; flaws and all it still has the best combat of any ARPG ever. I only played a little Dark Souls (been playing too much DOTA) but I'm certain that it'll also end up on my list.

This thread is making me realize just how much 2012 sucked compared to 2011, when we had Skyrim, Deus Ex, Arkham City, Witcher 2, Portal 2, Amnesia, BF3, etc.

Anyway, I'd have to say Mass Effect 3, as sloppy and rushed as its ending was.

The only game this year that really surprised me was Dragon's Dogma, The game tried to do alot of things differently and for the most part succeeded imo. I really quite enjoyed it. Right now I'm very hooked on AC3 so that's another for me. Nothing else really quite did it for me. I am keeping an eye out on FC3 though, and I have Sleeping dogs unopened next to me still, that's next after AC3.

The Walking Dead - had lots of flaws... but overshadowed by story that sucked me in... I hammered away on my controller buttons in chapter 5 trying to stay alive!
Max Payne 3 - I enjoyed the story continuation. For those newer to the game it could be boring... but for me I enjoyed it.
Xcom EU - enjoyed this game but it doesn't have the depth of the original... close but still enjoyable.
Spec Ops the Line - enjoyed a playthrough and the darker storyline.
Borderlands 2 - Fun so far... but it's on my backlog now with other games to play.

Big FU list... EA Mass Dump 3... sorry but I won't excuse the ending.

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition (PC, PS3 and 360)

Dark souls

The only game that deserves the title. It's in a class of its own and nothing comes close last year this year and probably for years to come.

The only thing that will come close or surpass it will be the next Souls-type game...assuming From Software can keep up the high standard.

It felt like a poor-man's Dark Souls to me.

Wow, it's pretty much the end of the 2012 gaming scene, was I sleeping through 2012? I spent most of my time on 2011 games and older ones.

Dark Souls

Probably one of the only games I have played through multiple times in my whole life.

So far for me:
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

the fuck? i work with a lot of cod nerds who loved mw2, black ops and mw3 (which were terrible) and even they agree that black ops 2 is a steaming pile of shit.

anyway for me its

borderlands 2 and ME3. honorable mentions to TL2 and dishonored. i would have liked dishonored more if it wasnt so short.

I don't play a lot of recent games because I am cheap, but Planetside 2 would be my pick right now for GoTY.

While not perfect, it offers gameplay that you simply can't get anywhere else.

its just a battlefield 3 on steroids not GOTY worthy if you ask me.

I have to say CSGO for the amount of time I have played and fun I have had.

I would have to go with XCom for me, closely followed by Black Ops2.

XCom is just a really good game and, while not entirely true to the roots, offers enough for me to make it GOTY. Black Ops 2 for me is second because i didn't expect much from it and it's actually really really good.

Biggest disappointment by far is Guild Wars 2, followed by Borderlands 2. GW2 just is a pile of donkey poop and BL2 is just BL1 with worse guns than the first..

Mass Effect 3

EDIT: Deus Ex came out in 2011, and I need more rest.

have to go with ME3.
Even with it's ending, it was ahead of other anticipated 2012 games.
Wouldn't have had a chance if it came out on 2011 though.

For me this year. GOTY goes to Max Payne 3.

I loved the story and how it made me feel like I was in a movie. I know some people will disagree, but I think it was GOTY worthy
