Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Made me respect them a lot as a company after they acknowledged the problems the game faced, and then turned the game into no subscription for awhile.

Even though it wasn't ready to be released, I am glad they are making strides into doing complete overhauls. I am not getting my hopes up for the 2.0 of this game though, they already let me down once. When it comes out, if it's getting solid reviews, then I might check it out again.

I too bought the Collectors' Edition as I loved the shit out of FFXI. I was in the top 5 highest fishers in the world (#1-#2 [it fluctuated] on my server) up until around level 47-48, where I decided to stop playing. Was a bitch trying to keep up with those JPs. ;)

Wow nice dude :) I am love FFXI with my dragoon. Now they introduced dragoons in the game I will probably buy it cheap at amazon. It's like $17 now :p My best MMO memories are in FFXI with their night/day questing. Hard game but man was it fun when you got a good party.

Well they just fired Tanaka off of FFXI and announced a new FFXI Expansion as well. Interesting times for FF mmos lol..

You bought 70 and 3 dollar signs? Teach me your ways.

Looks like a MMO. Wonder if it's still got the crappy game play from before where crafting was 1000x more important than monster killing. My old buddy had so much gold that he stopped killing monsters as he had the best gear from crafting. I never got past level 20 or so before I was bored out of my mind.

It is a complete redo in most regards. New game engine as well.

The game will have free time for anyone that has purchased it before to try 2.0 before it goes sub. So time will tell what we find. Yoshi is ambitious and very receptive of the community and has a real vision so I think it will either come out and be a huge improvement, or be worse if that was possible.

atleast we got a cool authenticator and a nifty art book

True... but I leave all that stuff in the box normally. I never used that pass thing to get an "official" letter of recognition.

I believe you can still turn that in if you contact their support team last I had heard.

Game is starting to look really good. I may have to give this a shot. Huge FF fan and was completely let down by FFXI.

Really? Most people that played FFXI as well as other MMOs thought it was one of the better ones. Unless you forgot the 'V'.

Kind of my thoughts, I think he forgot the V. FFXI was pretty well received after a year or so of the launch. Took awhile to get going.

If anyone has an hour or so to spare, I recommend watching the special talk session a few of the FFXIV developers had the other day. Lots of new in-game footage was shown.

Summary:
- New graphics engine (Luminous Studio, same one used to make the Agni's Philosophy real-time tech demo)

Skip to the 56 minute mark to see the highlight of the show. I was thoroughly impressed!

Don't forget to hit the CC button to see the translation.

i doubt it. they are most likely behind schedule as it is almost december and there has been almost no news coverage at all regarding it. ign reporting it being later in 2013

They are doing closed alpha with 2.0 now. January is when launch was supposed to be. Could certainly be doable.

I like the "we fucked up, we're sorry" attitude

I'll be checking this out when it releases in its new form (previously had no interest in the first)

just submitted my app for the beta for 2.0

hopefully my account is still good when this launches. i wont rebuy it but i will resub to try it.

Ha ha me too man. I have no idea where my keychain authenticator is now. Maybe I'll call them and ask at some point.

Legacy status for me here (I know, joke's on me), so I should automatically be included in the closed beta. I am very eagerly looking forward to getting my hands on it, but am going in with pretty much ZERO expectations. At the very least, it can't be worse than the mess that 1.0 was.

This getting revamped or what?

I've always wanted to play a Final Fantasy MMO, but reviews were always shit.

I've played the first closed beta of FFXIV: ARR, and I can say it's very promising. Graphics are a touch lower than v1.0, but the performance has been improved greatly. There were several stress tests done with crowded areas and it's like night and day compared to how crowded areas like Ul'dah was or the Bazaar market was.

If you've played Guild Wars 2, the controls are very similar in that the right-mouse button controls the camera and WASD controls the character. There are no controls to dodge though like double-tapping left or right. And, I hope they fix a few slight issues like timers are the same for all abilities, even the attacks.

Crafting is much easier to understand than it was in v1.0, but they need to fix gathering. There are too few gathering points and are easily camped, and can be easily botted.

Supposedly the next test will involve other areas, and more quests and dungeons. I'm looking forward to that at the moment.

Legacy status here too. Looking forward to playing it in two weeks or so. I initially played the game using the 360 controller, but with the first of four beta phases, I'll have to use the keyboard and mouse combo. At least I'll be doing real beta testing, reporting bugs and stuff. It's something I haven't done in a long while.

I have expectations that ARR (2.0) will be slightly better than 1.0 - I'm keeping it that low so that I don't get too excited about it. I'm definitely enthusiastic about the upcoming changes, though.

Well now that I looked at this thread instead of the benchmark thread, I know I can do beta monday haha. Is that for everyone, or for people that own the game? By beta, I'm assuming we'll be playing the "revamped" version they've been working so hard on?

The beta phase that starts Monday is a a limited beta for select people that applied (open application via the FFXIV site). A few weeks later phase 2 starts for a wider selection, then a few phases after that I think they're starting open beta, so anyone that applies can hop in.

The beta test will be divided into four phases. During phase 1, the game will only be available for a few hours on specific days, but availability will be increased in subsequent phases. A more detailed testing schedule will be posted on the Beta Tester Forum.

Yes, the beta will be the new rebuilt game (titled FFXIV: ARR), as was the Alpha that happened several months ago.
