Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition New Gameplay Trailer

That was a really funny game, lots of tongue in cheek. I remember one sequence in one of the sequels where you run into another party of adventurers, you can here there whispered conference "I think we can take them". They attack, you kick their ass and then it says they are reloading their savegame and they come back and parley.

I laughed so hard

God, I remember the originals were absolutely awesome for their time, and strangely enough I'm quite glad it looks to not have changed very much.

Oh yea, that's what I like.

Oh yea, that's it. I like that.

The original Baldur's Gate was designed for 640x480 for one thing. The enhanced edition will run at higher resolutions and correctly (and natively) support 16x9 monitors. Many areas have been fleshed out/expanded and some new areas have been created. There are also 3 new NPC's that can join your party, and they have also added all of the Kits from BG2 as well as a few more. That's just for starters.

I'm still trying to figure out whats 'Enhanced' about it. Anyone, anyone?

Most of the non-tablet improvements are found in a number of mods such as the bug fixes and 16:9 resolution support. This is just easier then trying to get the mods to work together.

You're being a smart ass but I'll bite anyways.

From another thread of mine:
I understand why some people may not want to buy this because there is a big misconception that this is a retail version of BGTutu, which is far from the truth. They have had around a dozen developers + contracted developers working on this game for the past 18 months.
  • They started with ToB code as a foundation,
  • Rewrote most of the infinity engine and rendering system to be optimized on new hardware and OSes. This included severe memory bottlenecks (70%), and fully hardware accelerated everything.
  • They fixed in source code 332+ bugs from the original, which required mods or were unfixable until now.
  • They also built a brand new interface that natively supports widescreen displays, as well as the ability to zoom in/out so you're not stuck with microscopic characters at high resolution.
  • They also externalized many of the game play elements that were UI based, making many types of modding available that is not possible in the original games. BG:EE will be the foundation of modding for these games for the years to come. This was not possible without source code and building a new UI.
  • The UI also "shows the math", showing you how how each character rules are being calculated, not just for combat.
  • Background art and character sprites has also been upscalled so that it all looks much better on higher resolution displays.
  • On top of all the engine/ui changes, they have added 3 new voiced over NPC's, each getting related side quest that total upwards of 12 hours of gameplay, with new area's. The NPC's are romanceable, and dialogue has been added to make them and original npc's fully aware of each other.
  • A new kit
  • They have also added several new voice sets and a portrait pack by the guy who did IWD portraits.
  • You are also able to get a proper importation into BG2 without rerolling your characters.
  • Multiplayer between all platforms.
  • Full tablet support with touch gestures.
  • They also added a new stand alone adventure called The Black Pits, which is arena style combat through 15 stages of progressively more challenging combat.

They are a really small company and very personable, so just emailing [email protected], they will be able to handle it for you.
I need to clear up what I said. They have added the gift service now to your account. If you have purchased multiple copies you will be able to gift them to someone.

People can play BG:EE with the stand alone updater or with the Beamdog client.

Hoping for an Android tablet version, this would be great on my Nexus 10.

Very much looking forward to this. Bought one of the packs off amazon awhile ago; so choppy XD. Looking forward to being able to play this game through again without all of those issues. Also the improved graphics will be nice, and it looks like it's not even going to be that expensive :).

Thank God. I want to get into the original BG, but I couldn't get into it. I didn't want to have to look for mods and figure that out too. And the microscopic look was really killing it for me, lol..

I can't wait. I just hope there is an option to change the interface color; I prefer the old classic green stone.

I wonder if you will still be able to replace the players voices with custom audio clips?

I don't believe so, I think the only place you can get it is through BeamDog. Which is a shame because I think they will be losing sales because of it

Not sure if things have changed, but I think the owner of BG's IP have said they will decide on the future of BG3 based on how well this EE does?

I certainly hope it doesn't, would be a shame if BG3 doesn't happen just because BG EE didn't sell as well as they expected. I don't think the EE is an accurate estimate of the potential interest in future BG title.

Not every BG fan may buy this IMO, and the Beamdog restriction makes it hard to reach out to new audience.

seriously

we are talking old school here, the guy I want to give it to...I would have to explain steam

Sadly, they just don't make games with massive storylines and interesting characters like that anymore.

A video of Baldur's gate and no Minsc and Boo??

"Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for EveryOne!!"

"When the going gets tough, Someone hold my rodent."

"ButtKicking for Goodness!"

"Make way evil! I'm armed to the teeth and packing a hamster!"

For those that have never heard him.

Heard they'd also be redoing Planescape: Torment, IWD and BG2.

Heh. Well, GOG would have been a good place too. They could gain some exposure there as well since GOG is popular among PC gamer these days.

It is coming to Android tablets, sometime in December.

Is this going to be sold on Steam?
No. The company said that they had to 'take a haircut' from Atari on the PC version for the deal and that selling it on Steam would basically give them little return. The margins are very tight so they have to sell it on their own platform.

I wonder if you will still be able to replace the players voices with custom audio clips?
Yes, you can. I was just browsing around my pre-load game files last night and was listening to some of the new and old sound sets. They must of found the old source material for the sound becuase even the old ones sound very high quality, like they were just recorded.

Too bad you cant just download it and save an ISO or something. I am so sick of these companies that say if you need to reinstall it just download it again. What if I dont have a net connection or really slow one. What if the company goes out of business? I had high hopes for this game but will take a pass.
