Retailers Are Monitoring Your Return Habits

The Retail Equation system helps us minimize returns fraud; which is often tied to bigger organized crimes such as drug trafficking, and even terrorism,”

so.. is everything nowadays linked to terrorism?

They've been doing this for years. Several years ago the wife returned several of the kids birthday/christmas gifts (did't have a receipt), and was eventually denighed due to too many returns. So she gave the last couple to me to return.

The main difference now, is that the tracking is starting to extend across multiple chains/stores, which will make it harder to shop the returns around. Luckly most the kids in the family are older, so they just want cash now :)

I noticed that too. What an absolutely ridiculous comment. How the hell is bottom feeder trailer trash return fraud linked to terrorism or drug trafficking.

This has been done in many stores since the 90s. Theres good reason for this. Stops scammers. You guys would be surprised how many people will write bad checks or use bad credit cards and return the items they bought trying to get cash. Not only will they get no cash but store credit but most stores will limit the amount of returns they can do without a receipt.

The only people that really get hurt by this are scammers. Sure its an inconvenience for everyone else who loses receipts but theres a simple solution to that...

Yes, because we all know we will be 100% happy with our purchases, and in no way dissatisfied with an item that was in a sealed box that we couldn't try before we bought it.

This is nothing new though. This process was in place ten years ago when I worked for The Sports Authority. It was implemented a few months after I started there, and it kept a lot of people from returning stuff all the time. After working customer service for a while, you realize that there are some customers that are habitual returners. Plenty of stuff that was obviously worn, got all sweaty, and then returned, etc. The returns bin smelled like it needed to go into the laundry quite often.

Buyer's remorse is not the fault of the store. 10 years ago, there was barely an internet. You couldn't easily find information on the products you were purchasing. Nowadays, you'll find a plethora of information on what you are purchasing.

If you aren't happy with your purchase, you contact the company that create the product.
