Since I missed out on the new Nexus 4, and I needed a new phone right away, due to breaking my Galaxy Nexus, I picked up the international One X off Craigslist here in the U.S. for $325, from a guy who only used it a week, and then he got the iPhone 5.

I have owned tons of different Android phones over the years, and this One X is hands down #1, and amazing to me. My previous Android phones been; MyTouch 3G...Nexus-One...EVO 4G...Nexus-S...EVO 3D...Galaxy S2...LTE Galaxy Nexus, and now the One X.

I got the stealth grey color, really good looking phone to me. I rooted it immediately out of the box, and installed the latest CM10 ROM. This phone is super fast and butter smooth. The screen, my God the screen  best smartphone screen I have ever seen, just so sharp and clear, and realistic colors. Battery life is amazing so far. Why do people complain about the One X battery life ? My first full workday with the phone now, unplugged at 6:00am, used GPS Navigation for couple hours this morning, tons of texts, lots of phone calls, lots of e-mails, surfed the web, and at 4:30, now unplugged for 10.5 hours, battery is at 35% left. And this is with no WiFi at all today, all outside in the field, with auto brightness on screen. Right now 3 hours screen time.

To compare, my Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus, sucked balls on battery, I never even used the 4G/LTE but like once a week, it was mainly on the 3G network 90% of the time, and there is no way in hell, with the amount I used the phone today, it would last 10.5 hours with 3 hours screen time, no way. My Galaxy Nexus would be lucky to get 2.5 hours screen time, and be in the red 10% left. And I tried all different ROM's all different kernels, tweaked settings to no sync, everything I could, and still that CDMA Galaxy Nexus, just had crap battery life. My Wife also had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, same with her, poor battery life, she didn't use the phone nearly at all during workday, it would just sit next to her in the office, with like maybe 5 quick calls day, and a few texts, after work would come home, and her Nexus would be at 50% battery, with like only 45 minute screen time.

I also got her a used international White One X, rooted with the newest CM10 ROM as well, she said right now her battery life is at 75% after 9 hours unplugged. She said the screen is way better than the Nexus, and phone feels more solid, she said she likes typing on it better than the Galaxy Nexus too.

To me this One X with CM10 ROM, is like HTC's Nexus-Four, their successor to the famous Nexus-One. Now I don't see any reason to pick up the LG Nexus 4. What would I gain by going for the N4 over the X ? Next phone for me, would be if HTC releases a One X2, hopefully similar cool design as the One X, but with their new S-LCD3 technology and 1080p screen, and 2GB RAM, and bigger battery. Of course needs to be rooted and latest Cyanogen ROM installed. I just love HTC's hardware and design, this One X is a solid phone, with nice artistic taste.

Only issue we are having, is Google Voice mail not working. My Wife said when she tried calling me, and I was on the other line, it would not allow voice-mail to be left, said this phone number does not have voice-mail setup.

Straight Talk for $45/Month unlimited can not be beat. I was paying over $125/Month on Verizon for one phone. And we keep our data to like 1.5GB/Month, I use most data on WiFi only at home or office.

Congrats on the find, but my monthly bill is similar in price and the screen on that thing is a little too small imo ;)

Have a long list of android phones I've used and also went to a One X rooted on ATT though. Complaining about the monthly fees but almost out of contract...

are there any features not working? I can't find the official CM page for the One X anywhere on XDA, anyone know where it is?

An international One X is about as good as it gets right now (along with the SGS3 and SGN2). The top phone(s) from 2012, no carrier bloatware, and freedom to take it to any GSM carrier you want. Sure, someone could suggest waiting for the 2013 flagships as they're right around the corner, but for the price you paid, that can't be beat. And I love how, despite lacking a MicroSD slot, they at least gave it 32GB internal storage unlike the 16GB that is quickly becoming common on Android.

You got a damn good device on a damn good plan.

This is the ROM I am running;

Great battery life, but pretty much stock Jellybean 4.1.2, nothing too fancy. Run like a champ on this phone, even with the measly 1GB RAM only.

Here is the main page for all custom ROM's on the international One X; Some really good developers working on this One X, I would say at least half a dozen really solid bulletproof ROM's, each offering something different and unique.

Again, the screen on the international One X, is just too good to pass up, the best I have ever seen.

My only issue with Straight Talk, is Google Voice for voicemail not working. I can't seem to get it to work ?

Still more than enough for Android today. My SGS2 has 1GB, and I have yet to have even pre-caching fill it up.

I'm showing 1.3GB of RAM used right now... I'm pretty sure that Android uses the extra if it's available, but does a good job managing if it's not.

You need conditional call forwarding. My understanding is that ST does not support that feature. If I get time I will look into it more.

Google Voice WILL work with Straight Talk, worked for me. You need to set up call forwarding on your device (phone screen, menu, call settings), set your voicemail service as google voice, as well as set up Google Voice on the device.

Doesn't ST only let you use like 100-200 MB/day and/or 2GB/month? I know that's feasible for most people, but it's hardly comparable to the unlimited data you get on Verizon (if grandfathered), Sprint or T-Mobile. It seems like you get what you pay for. Also, coverage is pretty limited compared to the big 4 too, right?

Straight talk has some shady things in their agreement. They can cut you off for high data usage and they don't consider youtube, netflix usable in their data plan.

I was going to go with them on a Note 2, but I got a good deal on a Verizon plan...

Love the entire HTC One series, but to say the screen is better than the Nexus is just plain silly.

No way I'll ever leave my AMOLED screen for another LCD. Ever.

Straight Talk wouldn't be my first choice either unless I just never used data, which on a smartphone isn't likely to happen.

Also the reason your Google voice mail won't work is that Straight Talk (the T-Mobile side, anyway) doesn't support conditional forwarding. It's likely that the user above who claimed to have it working is using an AT&T sim and not a T-Mobile one.

I did activate the ATT SIM card, the micro SIM used for iPhone's it said in the Straight Talk package. And it says "Use this sim for AT&T compatible, or Unlocked GSM phones" The package came with 3 different SIM cards, a regular ATT, the micro SIM for ATT which I installed, and a T-Mobile compatible SIM.

As far as Straight Talk itself, I went with them, due to knowing people with first hand experience. My Brother bought the GSM Galaxy Nexus back in the Spring, he left Sprint and activated his Nexus on Straight Talk ATT. For 6 months now, he says it is rock solid reliable, zero issues, never disconnected, no warnings from ST, nothing. He says it blows away his official Sprint service, with faster speeds, and better coverage, no dropped calls like on Sprint. I also have a few clients that left other carriers this Summer bought international phones, activated on Straight Talk, they said the same thing, works like a champ, no issues whatsoever the past few months, better than the official plan and network they had before.

On Verizon I had the 2GB/Month package for both phones, my Wife and I were typically around 1.5GB each per month, she was far less, typically just 500MB/Month, I would hover around 1GB-1.75GB, this whole year I never once went over 2GB/Month on Verizon. And from what I read about Straight Talk, it is said if you keep to 2GB/Month or less per month, you are totally fine. Where Straight Talk sucks, is with heavy data users, 3GB - 5GB / Month, ST is not for them.

As far as coverage, here in Chicago area, Straight Talk ATT works flawlessly. My Brother travels a lot for work, all over the city, suburbs, and boondocks, after 5+ months on ST, he has yet to find a dead area in the Chicago_land area. He also goes across State, once per month, to the big cities like Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Detroit, St. Paul, Straight Talk works just like any other netowrk he said.

Actually, we went camping near his townhouse in the Mountains this Summer, out in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Verizon service there was spotty, he had full bars. He kept making fun of me, laughing, saying look at your mighty Verizon service, can barely hold a signal out there, where ST was working just fine.

[strike=]No one is getting unlimited on verizon after their current contract expires. I am grandfathered and after my current contract is up I have to move to one of their new plans. I will be going to straight talk.[/s]

ST uses either T-Mobile or ATT depending on your phone and the SIM you choose to buy. So coverage will be the same as ATT or T-Mobile, it's up to you to pick.

Yes, there is a data limit of 2GB, but at half the price Verizon is charging for their 2 GB/month plan it's a hell of a deal.

No, you don't. Verizon will allow you to stay on your unlimited plan under two scenarios; (1) You keep your existing phone, or; (2) you upgrade at retail price.

My mistake I was under the impression they would end it once your current contract ended.

I'm a current Verizon customer with a 3G phone, but I need faster data downloads. Do I have to go to the new Share EverythingSM Plan if I upgrade to a 4G phone?
No, you aren’t required to switch to the Share Everything Plan, even when upgrading your device.

However, if you currently have an unlimited data plan, you won’t be able to keep it if you upgrade at a discounted price. You can choose from a plan with a standalone data package or the Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited data is important to you, you have the option to pay full retail price for a new phone.
If you are happy with your current plan and don't mind the old phone or you pay full price for a new phone you can cling to unlimited for a bit longer. I really won't be surprised if/when Verizon cuts it altogether sometime next year as rumors are suggesting.

In either case ST is still cheaper, even with my 20% discount on verizon, and I don't go over 2GB a month so it is not worth keeping.

right, but the phone itself, are the radios capable of 42 mbps?
carrier unlocked means I can bring it to tmo.

X doesn't have AWS (1700/2100) bands so it will not get UMTS/HSPA(+) on T-mobile. T-mobile does have 1900 HSPA+ coverage in Vegas and is expanding in other areas.

straight talk is pretty awesome. Been on it since late summer and haven't missed AT&T at all. Using an iOS though. The ONLY thing that sort of annoys me is that visual voicemail doesn't work, so have to check it the old fashioned way but for the price savings, it's hardly something to complain about.

4G on Verizon was pretty badass though (used Verizon to buy a iPhone5 to bring it over to ST on AT&T). Still not worth over 100.00 a month (for a cap that you wont burn through in 20mins). Hope MVNO's get it sooner than later.

People are getting used to being lazy. "But I can stream all my music, why put it on the SD card!". "But I want to watch Netflix". Have fun paying $70+/mo for the privilege.

I only use my phone for some Pandora streaming once in a while and some stray googling/apps (check bank account / paypal account/ etc). I'm planning on a Nexus 4 & Straight Talk next year sometime, swapping from Virgin (unless there's some killer Black Friday phone deal). I'm still running an Optimus V on Virgin - it's slow but it's bulletproof, and even better with CM7 on it. Most months are sub 1GB...2GB tops. Maybe a little more on a trip or something.

@OP

Thank you for posting this... I don't think the One X gets as much love as it deserves on these forums. I own one (the XL version actually) and it is such a damn good phone. I have not yet tried it with CM10, but will probably try that this weekend.
