Official [H] Star Wars:The Old Republic Thread

Yep, they're giving away black hole commendations to those who haven't transferred their characters yet. They're also offering an exclusive mount to player who refer their friends.

I started playing this again few weeks ago, started fresh on a new pve server, so far it had been a ton of fun. I really hope the f2p thing will bring in alot of people the game is good

I was chatting with some friends the other day, people who used to play and raid in SWTOR earlier this year, and we all agreed that SWTOR was the most fun raiding we've ever had.

These are people who have different levels of MMO experience but who have all raided in other MMO's and some who have been playing them for over 15 years.

Not saying the endgame didn't suffer from bugs, not saying the game was perfect(not even close) but our group of people who knew how to play their class and who all were so relaxed and easy going just made for a wonderful time despite game bugs.

We are all looking forward to heading back when F2P hits.

I'm still enjoying my first playthrough as a lvl 41 sentinel.

I got this game when I had a week and a half off from work, so I literally played non stop everyday until around 6pm when my gf got home. I think I played until the end of January then stopped and haven't played since.

I'm too scared to go back.

I played this for a while. Leveled 2 50s and then got bored. I didn't want to start raiding, I don't want to commit that much time. I've been there, done that, and don't care to go back. Unfortunantly, 2 level 50s is about all the game is worth. Even if you go to the other side of the rebel/empire it's just more of the same.

I was thinking about playing again... actually.. maybe I will check it out with f2p.

broke down, reinstalled the game...having a blast in warzones....still trying to relearn my sniper skills...lol...makes gw2 skills look childish...i love all the choices in combat..i truly missed CHOICES !!!!

I always thought mmo combat should be more strategic decision making as opposed to spam 3 buttons

not sure how long the 2nd honeymoon will last...so far, so good

Putting HK main vendor in middle of PvP zone on PvE servers. Bright move.... had to get up at 3am, to get to that vendor, to avoid ganking packs. Really, if I want to PvP I'd roll on PvP server. Job Well Done, BW :/

There needs to be middle ground on this. I don't like 100's of skills, but I also don't like a skill bar with only 5 main skill per weapon.

I'd say GW2 IS the middle ground. You have 5 skills per weapon/weapon set and 20+ utility/elite skills that are interchangeable in four slots. That's 9 skills total. More than Diablo, less that WoW. I'm waiting for F2P to launch before I jump back in to SWTOR, but I can't find any merit in the arguments that SWTOR somehow has more skills than GW2. They're the same, just mixed up differently.

Wow. Odd. How much does hk cost?

There's two sides to that.

I don't like having to hit 10 buttons in perfect sequence to max DPS in a tank and spank. Situational skills are good, 2 button macro spam for DPS is also good too.

wish they did the F2P thing better. i am still considering downloading tho

You cant buy it - you have to do series of quests, bringing items to the vendor. Then, if you want to unlock it as companion for other characters, you have to pay 1 million creds (can't be bought with legacy coins).

I logged in a little while ago to play and found that I had to change my character's name because of a server transfer. I got pissed. I created my character the very minute that it was possible but I have to change because my character is the one that moved servers. So much total bullshit.

EDIT: I might still be a little pissed...

All characters got moved, you have to change because someone else with that name was more active than you.

From what it said, I had to change because my character moved to a server that already had a character with that name. Because that character was there first I had to change mine.

Had to do the same thing, Ended up quitting back during the first server transfer because of that.

Same thing here. I logged on yesterday for the first time in months to find that I had to change two of my characters names. I've used those names for almost ten years in various MMOs. I wasn't pleased.

I understand the merging of servers and the problems that it creates, but they didn't need a million active servers to start with when the game launched.

Whats this crap, all my bonus cartel coins that I earned from subbing over the past year are not given to me unless I resub?

And literally everything that makes the game playable is locked out (including multiple action bars and gear?!)

Yep. The F2P is designed to get new players to pay, not as a service to previous members. Bioware can suck it now that GW2 is out, they lost their chance(s) with me.

Yeah, the restrictions on F2P players are **INSANE**. You literally can't even use the "hide head slot" checkbox unless you're a subscriber or you pay to unlock that checkbox.

I've never really played a F2P MMO before so maybe this is common practice for them, but that just seems absolutely retarded to me. F2P for TOR is basically a VERY limited free trial. People who are trying it for the first time now are either going to like what they see enough to sub, or they're going to stop playing period.

As if TOR didn't have enough problems, this is the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.

edit: And the Cartel items for subscribers are really lame. The gear you can buy is just 8 sets of armor from each class, so a smuggler could choose to wear bounty hunter armor for example, plus 8 chest pieces along the same lines. The rest is just pointless stupid items like pets or trinkets that do funny things like holo-statues etc.

What other new content did we get? A new companion (the quest storyline is actually very short, it just requires doing some boring tasks that take time like running flashpoints etc) and a new difficulty level for one of the operations (Explosive Conflict.) For all of TOR's problems, lack of content should be one thing they should be able to churn out regularly, and they haven't even done that.

Another thing I noticed is I think they shot themselves in the foot with F2P by giving away their best feature, the story, for free. If they really wanted to get F2P players to sub for at least a month, they should have given near unlimited access to complete Chapter 1 (of every character's three chapters). If you want to see Chapters 2 and 3, sub. Right now F2P players get to see the whole story, get shafted by the shitty items, and then drop it when they're done. It just doesn't seem like an intelligent business decision at all, not that they seem to have a track record for that anyway.

It varies. All of them offer good reasons to pay money, of course. A company cannot offer a completely free game with no ads and stay in business. Someone has to pay the developers, buy the bandwidth, and so on.

However the ones that are well done aren't shitty about it. One of the best is DDO. If you play the game 100% for free, you are pretty limited in the modules (as in areas and dungeons and such) you can play. However not only can you subscribe, which unlocks everything so long as you are a sub, but you can buy modules which unlocks all their content once and for all time.

Also the costs in DDO are well balanced. You pay about the same to buy points and unlock all the modules as you do to subscribe all the time. So you can get all the content either way you like to pay, or of course settle for not having it all and pay less, all up to you.

F2P really varies as to how well it is done. Some games really try to milk people and go pay2win really heavily, they try to pump people for cash and don't care about keeping them. Others do it well and allow people to pay what they can afford, given you access consummate with money spent.

I logged into my character a little before lunch. The fleet was nearly empty, and I had the same complaints about the restrictions on your character listed above in this thread. Saw absolutely no reason to subscribe or play. And worth mentioning the action bars limit prevents you from pvp unless you only use a few moves. Who in the hell thought it was a good idea to gimp you in pvp? Then the straw that broke the camel's back was when I went to summon my companions and I found that I can only have 2 professions unless I subscribe.

Ha ha Bioware is dead in the water. If EA lets them live another 3 years it will be on name recognition alone.

Well that's the thing - is it Bioware that's the problem or is it EA? Would Bioware come back if it partnered with another publisher?

I logged in for the first time in months to test out ftp. So, they let you play the best part of the game for free (the storylines are entertaining) and let you sample the worst parts of the game (PVP, space missions, endgame, etc.) in order to entice you to sub. EA should get an award for this ;)

im tempted to update it and check out f2p again but meh. Playing TSW and Bl2 right now and dont have time for those either

I had such high hopes for this game, I really did. followed all of the podcasts, preordered, early access, and beta tested. played it a lot for 6 months and lost interest. outside of running the same flashpoints and leveling an alt, there's really nothing else to do. PvP is a complete joke ( by the time I quit, marauders and sentinels were facerolling everything)

I really liked the game when I played it. I don't generally play the large group content in MMOs anyways. I was really enjoying the single player. I stopped playing when other games came out but now I'm really looking forward to getting back in and finishing my storyline and playing another character.

I tried the F2P last night. My characters all worked, which was nice. Some features were missing but the core game was still playable.

Problem was I couldn't create any new ones. It said "please delete 7 characters before creating"

So I guess you have to make new accounts for alts.

You have 2 slots per acount during F2P.

what content are they adding next, you ask? well, they're only going to be adding to their two best aspects of their game; space missions and a PvP map! nevermind that playing ftp will completely negate your enjoyment of them, they're fucking epic!! /sarcasm
