Blog Post With Pretty Colors

So, I've had some down time on the weekend, and instead of playing games, I decided to write about them. I wanted to create a blog about the games I am anticipating the most, and predict how well they would fare. This is just my opinion. So what do you guys think?

Do you have an opinion about these games? Do you think they will live up to the expectation or surpass them?

I wanted to talk about some of the games I am looking forward to the most.

Battlefield 4

There are absolutely no details known about Battlefield 4 at this point. This is all we really know about it.

I can only hope that DICE doesn't make this a consolized game. Battlefield 3 wasn't, so I have no reason to believe that Battlefield 4 would be any different.

It would be interesting to look back months from now at my thoughts, and realize how right or wrong I was.

So here is my optimistic prediction:

Battlefield 4 is going to be the best Battlefield game ever. The single player campaign is going to be brilliant, and there will be no quick time events! Every PC gamer is going to be raving about how great it is.

Then there is the multiplayer. Its going to put every other online FPS to shame. The destruction in this game will be awesome. Johan Gidlund-Montén and his team will do an awesome job. It will surpass BF3, and I will spend over 400 hours on that game.

It will be the editor's choice at PC Gamer.

There. It has been said. I will revisit this once Battlefield 4 is out. Hopefully, I won't be completely mistaken. I was kind of hoping Medal of Honor Warfighter will be a good game, but that turned out to be very mediocre, if the reviews are to be believed. Of course, I am not going to take a chance and purchase the game to see if the reviews were wrong.

There are certain facts about the game that are very unappealing to me - quick time events in single player, lack of destruction in multiplayer and in the campaign are a couple of reasons I can think of.

Crysis 3

I don't know what to think about this game. I made a rather lengthy blog about things I disliked with Crysis 2. Hopefully, Crytek was paying attention to their fans. I thought Crysis and Warhead were one of the best games ever. I know a lot of people will disagree with me.

Those games had all the design choices that I love in a FPS game.

Quick save, manual save, tons of graphics options, lengthy single player campaigns, superb visuals, no quick time events, to name a few. Its almost as if, someone asked me my idea of a perfect game, and went ahead and made it. I cared very little about Crysis before its release, but once I played the demo, I totally loved the game.

Crysis 2 on the other hand, was a disappointment. Its not that the game looked particularly bad, or played bad, but the fact that it was designed to appeal to the Call of Duty crowd was what made it unappealing to me.

So, lets predict Crysis 3:

It will still try and appeal to the Call of Duty crowd, much like Crysis 2. The multiplayer will be quickly forgotten. There will be quick time events (this makes me sad), and there will be no quick save in the PC version.

I think the game is going to be alright, but it will not live up to Crysis in my mind.

Tomb Raider

This one looks interesting. I played the first five Tomb Raider games, and at the time, I really liked them. However, I did not enjoy the rest of the games. I played the first level of Angel of Darkness, and that was enough for me.

I really looked forward to Tomb Raider Legend, and for the most part, it lived up to my expectations. However, the boss fights were very lame, and are made for the console. As a PC gamer, I did not enjoy them, and I eventually gave up on the game. I hope to revisit this game someday and finish it.

I couldn't be bothered to play the other two games - Anniversary and Underworld.

I like the direction they are taking the new game in. It seems less like an arcade game, and more like a serious survival adventure game.

I predict, that the game is going to be pretty good. The PC version is going to be solid as well. The interface is going to be a console like, but still functional. Hopefully, the checkpoint saves will not make the game too frustrating, and the boss battles won't follow the unimaginative tedium I have seen in Tomb Raider Legend.

I don't think Crysis and BF will live up to expectations. I believe it will be the same old song and dance for a third and fourth time. & for some reason people will throw money at it once again in a desperate hope for something new.
Quite frankly I think Battlefield/Call of Duty and Crysis are a cancer upon the gaming community. Due to there "Story Driven" Gameplay and Cut Scenes , Rail like design and unimaginative concepts.

As for Tomb Raider, I have always been a fan. I am looking forward to the new one and like the new look they have given Laura.

Hmmm..You say yourself that we have no details whatsoever about BF4. Then you say that you think it will be the best BF game ever? IMO, the BF series has got slightly worse with each release.

That's why I said, I was predicting. I have no fact to base these predictions up on. So its probably more like wishful thinking.

I don't know how the multiplayer got worse. I did not play Bad Company 2, but I did play Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield Play4Free, and I thought BF3 was just a superior game in every aspect.

I hated Battlelog when I first bought the game. I even returned it the first time around because I thought it was a stupid way to do things.

I now have a completely different opinion on Battlelog. I think it is by far the best server browser designed in a BF game.

Also, I thought the gameplay was a lot better. I know there are people shaking their head at this statement, but that's just how I see it. I am not a console gamer either. I don't own a console, I don't plan to in the future.

I am hoping what you said about BF4 is true as well. Not going to get my hopes up too high though.

I mean, it won't hurt to be optimistic. I think BF3 is the best BF game to date. Some people say that BC2 is better. I have not played it, so I can't really debate, but I do think compared to all the other ones, BF3 is by far the most entertaining game.

Self healing vehicles, are something I am not a fan of, but whatever. I don't care nearly as much about that as some people do.

BF3 was consolized, I should know, I have 600+ hours on it and that's after I took a 4 month break from playing it.

eh - I've only gotten 200 hours into it? and I think I more than got my monies worth. I don't like the direction that CoD and BF3 have taken... it's less apparent with BF3, but you can still tell they are milking things money wise with DLC.

The best BF game was BF2.

I think BF3 is the best BF game yet. For every argument against it such as simplification, lack of voice chat, etc, there's are many more things they improved like movement/weapon feel, graphics, user interface, etc. etc. And the map/weapon/vehicle selection is just awesome and we still have 2 more map packs to go.

I mean on the one hand if you have 600 hours + playing BF3, you can critique since you know every detail about the game. On the other hand, you've played it 600 hours so, yeah... it's obviously a great game.

I actually think they fucked the pooch pretty comprehensively on all those counts, and I know that more than a handful of people agree on that point.

I watched a 20minutes gameplay vid for Aliens: Colonial Marines. I'm pretty sold.

Hitman, Star Citizen, Heart of Swarm and Protoss campaign.... maybe even, if it's possible Warcraft 4.

Although Crysis 3 looks interesting, I am waiting for Heart of the Swarm, Grim Dawn, Wasteland 2, and Bioshock Infinite in 2013 :)

After reading this thread it makes me wonder if I am still a gamer. :(

Even after the retarded ending of Mass Effect 3 that total ruined that best part of the game, the story/universe, ME4 is still my most anticipated game, 8/10? My anticipation level for BioShock Infinite is probably 7/10. I am somewhat looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Marines and Crysis 3, anticipation level 6/10. Other games I care less about. Thus, all bargain bin buys or rentals except ME4.

Colonial Marines for sure.

Bioshock Infinite, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are on my list as well.

  • BioShock Infinite
  • StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
  • Crysis 3
  • Metro Last Light
  • Aliens: Colonial Marines
  • Far Cry 3
  • Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition
  • Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced Edition

Fuck you now I have to go watch aliens again...sigh

I just watched the Blu Ray on my 127" projector screen a couple weeks ago :D Amazing.

But anyway, I am really looking forward to Colonial Marines. I'm expecting the story portion to be fairly short (but good), but I'm really hoping the MP portion gets a lot of attention and has some depth to it.

That is a good point.

Now, the lack of voice chat is certainly puzzling. I wish they implement some kind of a feature where it would be possible to talk to your squad mates in game without having to use battlelog.

To be honest though, my wife and I both play BF3 together, and we are on skype anyway, so it really doesn't matter a whole lot. I think if you have friends who you play with, its very easy to get into games together, and it definitely possible to use an external program like Ventrillio or Teamspeak.

In my opinion, BF3 is not just the best BF around, but the best online FPS played.

I have played a lot of online FPS games, and I also played a fair bit of BF1942, BF2 and 2142. They were all good, but none as good as BF3. I have not played BC2, but I somehow doubt that is doing to change my mind.
