Windows 8 Is Too Complicated For You to Figure Out

I put Windows 8 on, and Metro just sucks with the mouse. I re-installed Windows 7.

Metro is the problem with 8. Probably great on a touch screen. Long ways to go to Equal Jelly bean on Android though.

I guess my bottom line is that Windows 8 simply doesn't give me anything that I don't already have? (Ok, it DOES give you a crappy interface, but...)

Is it going to run my apps or games faster? Nope.

On conventional hardware as I've said many times Windows 8 doesn't do a lot. On the 1.5 lbs PC with 10 hours of battery life that I'm writing this post with a pen on while sitting in a recliner that even a laptop wouldn't work it offers a lot.

Seen this for a couple weeks now. Win 8 isn't hard and ide rip the power cord of my boys pc out the wall and cut it if he acted that way towards me. Staples sucks anyway.

By virtue of the fact you are on this forum, you really aren't the target audience for this ad. It's for the people who see a new interface and are unable to comprehend it.

sweet, ANOTHER threas that people can argue about Windows 8 in.

The best part about these threads, is the replies (on both sides of the fence) where they just repeat something someone else said on another thread and pretend it was their own original thought.

Relax, its not a political debate or anything. Besides, I'm gonna do the best part in this thread :p

"Those who score 100 or above are able to figure out Windows8 in five minutes without any help.
Those who score below 100 figure it out with some help.
Those who score below 100 but think they are 200+ are among the most strident critics of W8. "IT CAN'TBE ME. IT MUST BE THIS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, PIECE OF CRAP".
That's exactly what these people said of the Mac when it first appeared in 1984." - a comment from the business insider.

Poor JoeUser, I don't think you're stupid. In fact, you're totally awesome! :)

It isn't really a matter of it being too complicated. Figuring it out is okay, it just is a more cumbersome way of doing stuff when it doesn't need to be like that in the first place. Microsoft could just have easily shipped Windows 8 with a Windows 7 UI and then allowed someone to download the Metro stuff if they really wanted their desktop, laptop, or whatever to look like a phone. Maybe let it on by default in their tablet-only RT version. I don't even think people would really complain since there's all of like 3 people actually using one on the planet anyway.

If you've not used Window 8 on a tablet how do you know?

Same way people knew Windows 8 would suck on desktops and laptops. Imagination!

Does it suck or do they not know how to use it? Everyday I see erroneous statement after erroneous statement about Windows 8. My biggest hope and fear simultaneously of Windows 8 is that most really don't know that they are talking about.

Alright...you're right Skribbel...complicating isn't really the right word. Cumbersome and bloated is more like it. Trying to be something it has no right to be.

Thank you for straightening me out. I needed that...been to high on pedestal lately.

It sucks, I'm glad I could clear that up for you :D

It does suck...but it doesn't have to, that's the sad part. All MS would have to do is add a permanent desktop mode and a Start button and remove all the default programs that go to Metro and it would just be a snappier version of 7...something many of us would switch to.

But nooooooooooooo...they can't do that!!! Why you ask?! Because fuck you that's why! :p

whine all yer want but 80% of my customer base that "upgraded" to win8 said its a pian in the ass.

As much as a Windows 8 fanboy as I get called, I never tell people to upgrade to Windows 8and have said since Day One that if you only use Windows with a keyboard and mouse it's not a compelling upgrade.

How do you know dog shit doesn't taste good if you haven't tried yourself? How do you know the Twilight movies are bad unless you've watched them yourself?

There is more than one Twilight movie, so don't generalize. And ditto for the fact that it depends on what the dog ate 4 hours ago.

Just speaking from experience.

You wouldn't even be able to tell anyone who to do anything with a Windows 8 tablet without researching it. Everyone knows not to eat dog shit, that said, if Windows 8 is ever as popular as Twilight, cybergeeks criticizing would mean as much as dog shit.

Windows 8 is easier and faster to use than Windows 7 and Mac OS X

You're doing it wrong :confused::(

This is staples reaction to shity sales, they probably bought a whole shit load of crapy 8 pc err or were forced on them by OEMs and now they can't get rid of 8 shit so in order to entice people they want to offer training. Education is the key to practically everything problem is people don't give a shit are dumb or to lazy.
That still doesn't mean that 8 is not a giant POS.

You didn't even bother to look at the date of the video did you? As much as a Windows fanboy as I get called it's like Windows 8 opponents do fucking absolutely nothing but complain with looking at one single fact before bitching.

Win 8 isn't shit, but Metro, as already mentioned is cumbersome as a desktop interface.

However, I think Microsoft sees the writing on the wall: people are moving away from the computer. For what people do as a whole, a mobile device is sufficient.

Hell, I know this isn't hard, but I'm eschewing a computer upgrade in lieu of getting a smartphone and adding an Xbox 360 along side my PS3. I could give a long dissertation on the reasons, but in comes down to convenience, that's it. I love the Windows phones, but since I'm not moving to Win8 anytime soon, there's more of a hassle if I stick with 7, which is working just fine.

Microsoft is going all in with Windows 8. The mobile market is growing, and while Metro is not a stellar interface for the mouse, it's awesome for touchscreens. They can't stay stagnant. RIM used to be an iron pillar and they sat and stagnated; now look where they are--right down the crapper. Plus, no matter what you do as a company, someone hates it.

Two UI's for an operating system is a big fail. Metro (or the Modern UI) is for tablets/touchscreen PC's. Aero is for desktops and laptops. Why Microsoft has decided to use both in the same OS is beyond me.

Ohai Dewi! Welcome to the forum! This is the News area where we mostly make fun of heatlesssun for his freaky love of Windows 8 and inability to stop talking about it or we get into really pointless arguments about religion, world governments, Zynga games, systems of currency, and complain about DRM or console ports to each other while lamenting about how much better things were in the good old days of 1995-2004.

For help with your computer or opinions about it, you prolly will want to run over to the General Hardware section and post in there. Here's a linkies:

When I first read the thread I thought there was some argument where JoeUser was being insulted by Staples.

Very confusing OP :D

I stared at the thread for a few minutes sort of blankly, wondering what Joe had to do with Staples before I figured it out too. :)

You're welcome, Joe! We think you're great and even if we are confused by the thread, we know you're just awesome!

I didn't think I wanted Windows 8 at all. Then I started hearing about some of the underlying improvements to the OS. Like it will check a UEFI BIOS to make sure it hasn't been compromised before it boots up. And that fact that it loads up the drivers for Anti-Virus software before any other driver. So it will be less likely for rootkits to install unnoticed. Both of which could be really valuable features.

All I had to do was figure out the best way to eliminate the freak show formerly known as "Metro". And there are alternatives... like Start 8 (which costs a mere $4.99) or Classic Shell (free - and the best one I've tried). So yeah, I'm thinking I can do things in a slightly different way so that I can take advantage of the a fore mentioned "improvements".

Then again, despite what Staples might want to imply about my age, I don't need either some kid, or some young Tech type person to help me learn Windows 8.

BTW, I'm also willing to go on record as predicting that the next iteration of the "Windows OS" will not have a Mobile UI tacked on. Because if they do that it will be the end of Microsoft. Businesses simply aren't going to use Windows 8 regardless of its evolutionary improvements in architecture.

I don't really see the big problem with the commercial. There is a HUGE difference between the OS being to hard to use, and just being different. Even Microsoft can't deny that certain things are just different, and most people will have to be re-tough some things that have not changed since Windows 95.

Anyone who finds this insulting is probably an overly sensitive idiot who deserves to be insulted.

I'm not really sure anyone who hasn't used Windows 8 for a few months is really in a position to judge it's usability...

I've been using it since it was available to Microsoft partners and I can say that... It's really not very different from Windows 7 for me. I never used the Start Menu in Windows 7 anyway. All I ever did was type into the search box. The only difference for me is that the UI is mildly different.

I don't use the full-screen Windows 8 apps much but I'm not sure if this is because the concept is bad or that there aren't any Windows 8 apps that I would want to use. For me, upgrading is not a choice because I need to be able to develop Windows 8 apps and Windows Phone apps. But frankly, I don't really see a reason for people to be up in arms about this whole thing. If anything people should be complaining that they didn't change enough of the OS to bother upgrading.

Bought Windows 8 for new rig. Paid $5 for Start8 key. Business as usual for the most part. Still have Windows 7 on laptop (will not upgrade it any time soon).

...we mostly make fun of heatlesssun for his freaky love of Windows 8 and inability to stop talking about it or we get into really pointless arguments...

None of our arguments are ever pointless! Just pointless people making pointless comments.

Left the part about heatlesssun in there just to let people know to avoid a Windows 8 thread when he's already tainted it...
