replaced my 4s and the new units are shipping with 6.0 software.

it doesn't appear that any jailbreak is available for 4s - but if anyone has any information otherwise please respond.

since jailbreak isn't out just yet, does it make sense to go ahead and upgrade to 6.0.1?

Nothing yet. Don't update to 6.0.1 (unless you're having issues and need it)... just in case the exploit they come up with only works in 6.0

there's a video on youtube with a guy running cydia on his iPhone5 along with a few other jailbreak only apps, but he's not a member of the chronic or iphone dev teams. So not sure if it's legit or not. It could be a month from now or 6 months.

Honestly, I'd really be surprised if we saw anything before Xmas. It seems with each new iOS release, the time it takes for the developers to release a jailbreak keeps getting longer and longer. Apple keeps finding ways to make it tougher and tougher

weaksauce.

will hold off on 6.0.1 as you stated, for logical reasons.

this phone is horrid without sbsettings. sigh.

tell me about it lol

I'm in the same boat (iphone5), although I do still have my old iPhone as a fallback

If you want to stay up to date on their progress, follow the members of the dev team(s) on twitter.

no sbsettings (quick adjust volume, brightness, etc)
no "quicklock" icon so i don't have to press the physical button to lock phone
no 5-icon dock
no 5-icon rows
no remove icon text/labels

No Zephyr, Using the home button again is my biggest gripe for going back to non-jailbroken iOS.

lol true.

I've been using my non-jailbroken phone for a month of so now and still constantly try swiping up from the bottom. Wish Apple would add that as a native function sometime soon

I've been avoiding updating my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 just because there are no untethered jailbreaks for either yet. And there might never be for my iPad :(

I haven't needed Zephyr since Apple added the native multitasking gestures. What are you using Zephyr for besides returning to home screen and bringing up the task switcher?

Gestures only work on iPad's.

I don't know how anyone lives without it. I just shudder at the idea of being on stock iOS

Dont know if it's tethered or untethered, but redsn0w has a 4S 6.0.1 jailbreak out now (found it thinking it was for the iPhone5, learned the hard way after downloading that it wasnt...)

It's tethered. The need to find an exploit like Rocky Raccoon (on 5.1.1) in order for untethered to be possible.

That's not for the 4S. It's for the 3Gs and the 4. There will always be a jailbreak for the 3Gs and the 4 because they use the same bootrom exploit that a software update can't ever change. 4s and 5 need a new exploit for every software update because they keep finding software exploits which will end up getting patched in the next software update.

my biggest upset is no longer having an icon to lock the phone (via cydia) - and having to press the physical button before tossing the phone into my pockets.

...the little things

TBH the only things I miss are the ability to hide the newstand (which is minor since I just toss it onto 2nd screen, but still annoying)

and, majorly, the loss of ability to tether! I have the "tether.com" solution but it is hell to get it to connect the two devices! If there's no jailbreak when my AT&T data runs out (nov 28th) I may just go back to android... Love my iPhone to death but Tethering is a deal-breaker for me... (especially with LTE just around the corner here - I'm told the towers are being upgraded RIGHT NOW and will be operational January --- though, of course, this may be another in a long list of lies from sprint...)
