I'm confused.

Over the years I've bought many, many Steam keys for games on this forum for me and my kids but now I'm seeing we can't do that anymore?

This thread here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1722673

They're basically saying he can't sell them.

The rules say:
(8) Selling or Trading of CD-KEY(s) without the original disks is strictly prohibited unless the software was originally sold by the publisher without physical media

Steam doesn't have physical media.

I understand that Steam TOS says:

May I Buy or Sell my extra copies?
No. This violates the Steam Subscriber Agreement and may result in all involved Steam accounts becoming permanently disabled.

But if we got the games from a place like Amazon, then the keys are not actually or never were linked to any Steam account.

The Steam TOS refers to extra copies linked to your account already right?
So my understanding and please correct me if I'm wrong is that you can't sell extra keys or copies that are ALREADY linked to your account.

I don't see anything about not being able to sell keys NOT linked to your account.

Can someone please clarify all of this for me?

I'm on your side of thinking regarding this. Unassociated keys from Steam & various other digital content providers should be allowed to be sold. Someone wouldn't get very far selling associated keys anyways. Activating them just makes any app yell at you about getting a new copy or key.

A user said he thought it was against the TOS, not a moderator. So, let's not jump into conclusions just yet.

Also, that rule obviously only applies to games that have physical media. Or at least it should.

Steam games are... well, digital.

Steam accounts can not be sold, but AFAIK we have never hindered the sale of individual Steam keys here.

If its an extra key, or part of a group buy , I see no problem selling them here as its done all the time

Ill admit Im confused by this as they sell 4 packs of games.....and clearly your not buying all 4 for yourself when purchasing these

I understand it's just one person and he got that thread closed by believing that. How many other people have now read that thread and believe it as well?

I think we should add a new rule or addendum to the existing FT/FT rules for situations like this to make sure things are clear to all users so things like this don't happen.

The guy isn't a mod, and a mod didn't close the thread. The owner closed the thread because he now believes he can't sell them and I'm sure others are wondering the same as me after seeing that.

I saw it, I guess he was posting at the same time as I was..

Still pertains though, he can take the suggestion to the 'higher ups' as it were...

Clearly you didn't think Goro would play four copies of VVVVVV simultaneously.
In all seriousness, the only time the 4 copy thing becomes a problem is if you buy the four pack and try to purchase additional copies to "gift" and such. I had such a problem with magicka a year or more back. and similarly with BFBC2 (and the vietnam expansion)

It is marked as a service to be able to "gift" these codes across the net with the intention of being paid in 100 roses as pointed out by craigslist bylaws.
