Does anyone have any recommendations for a self hosted Dropbox like alternative, with syncing, etc?

I'm looking for something that would ideally run on Windows Server. I have a couple clients that are interested in hosting their own Dropbox like solution on one of their Windows servers.

Owncloud is the only one I know of, but I am sure there are others out there.

OwnCloud.org. The link is to the instructions for installing on a Windows 2008 server (or Windows 7).

I started to set this up on my CentOS server, but found that CentOS sucks. I haven't taken the time to reload the server to a real OS yet like Debian.

Any others? I tried to install OwnCloud last night, but I'm clearly doing something wrong. It installs the databases just fine, but the interface is all jacked up with missing images and buttons/links that dont do anything.

Yeah, I'm still waiting on something that looks better. The best one I've found honestly looks to be Cloud Station using a Synology NAS.

I think the next sharepoint will come with some sort of "skydrive pro" or something, there's definitely something about it in office 2013.

there are many ways to do it, but most ways are hack jobs with a collection of software needing to be installed, i was looking into something like this a while back and everything i came across seems to half ass*ed to get working it wasn't worth it

Sharepoint Workspace 2010. Formerly known as Groove Virtual Office.

I am looking for same thing but I need mobile phone support. iPhone/iPad

I also need ability to have security between users

If you don't require it to be self-hosted, check out SpringCM.

VMware has a product in the works, called project octopus but has now been renamed to Horizon Data.

Don't think its close to release yet.

Oxygen Cloud is also another one.

Synology has a program called Cloud Station for their NAS devices that does this. Of course, you would need a Synology NAS...

That actually looks interesting... I signed up to try and get an invite.

Anyone testing the service?

I got an invite, but have not installed it yet.

I will try to get around to it today.

So these look good but are there any pay for ones to get support?

I have a server with some folders.

FolderA
FolderB
FolderC

Sales Group A has phones an field laptops/iPads and needs to sync with FolderA but not see the rest
Sales Group B has same devices but only can sync with FolderB
Group C should have sync to all.

Sugarsync wasn't reliable. Would like to host myself but can be hosted.

Want something that will just work.

I have ajaxplorer (ajaxplorer.info)running on a CentOS, with a web-front end file and permissions manager, works perfectly for me. It does have a sync client, but still in beta. This is opensource and free, so I suggest trying it out.

So I have AeroFS installed on a Windows 7 box and a Cent OS 6.3 box.

So far things appear to be working properly.

File transfer is fast, locally and over the internet.

The Linux client needs an init/service script. I am currently running it on cli only and it will only run as long as the ssh connection is open, or if I put it into a screen container.

Potential negative. When you delete a file from say Win7 machine it deletes the file on the Linux server. While this is great for keeping everything in sync it can open up the possibility for accidentally deleting something and not being able to get it back (IE. if you delete in Linux no way to recover in windows.) A fix to this would be a preference option that you can enable/disable to allow or disallow remote deletion of files.

I have two invites available for whoever wants to give AeroFS a try, PM me your email address.

Do you have to place files into the browser or can it sync with a pre existing folder?

Syncs with a folder, in my case AeroFS. When you install the program you can chose the directory to store synced files. You can change the folder after installation as well.

As a side note, I found there is a version history. So if I delete a file from linux I can recover it on the Win7 box.

Can you select other folders to sync with?

For example my client has
Root Folder
NY Sales
-- Estimates
CT Sales
-- Estimates

I only want it to sync the estimates folders

Does t have mobline phone support?
