I'll chime in with my own experience doing this. Had an Asus 1201N I couldn't get to restore and Asus said we'll supply you with recovery discs for $50, I scoffed and told them they were out to lunch on this. Also there was never an option for me to create recovery discs even though they said there was.
Using the DigitalRiver download my 1201N was not recognized even though it had a COA for Win 7 Home Premium and the bios SLIC was 2.1. In the end I had to re-master the installer with the Asus cert and while I was doing that I used the Asus default install key since I could only read 85% of the key because it was wearing down.
Long story short, while it may work with some OEM'a without and extra changes, it's not such a bad thing to learn how to master your own installer since you can pre-patch or have it auto install without any interaction
