ASUS VG278HE - 144Hz

How are the colors and PQ on this monitor compared to the Samsung S27A950D?
Also, is the screens surface closer to the glossyness of the Samsung or closer to a Dell IPS(U2412M fx)?

It is matte and the general concensus is that colours aren't as nice.

Yapchagi, what is an HD video of the monitor going to show other than the performance of the monitor you are viewing on?

That is a bummer, to my understanding the 27" Samsung like the S27A950D have less colors and PQ compared to 23" Samsung like my S23A700D.

According review my display has 12ms input lag but I have to live with it :(

Not sure where you read that but it's a load of rubbish. The pixel pitch if different but the colours are similar if not richer on the 27" (and 23") 750 and 950 models as they have a slightly better gamut apparently.

Well I could be wrong but read somewhere that the 23" Samsung are slightly better compared to 27" Samsung, this for these 120hz TN.

Also to my understanding all the 23" 120hz TN Samsung use same panels so there should be no difference in gamut, colors and PQ.

I used to own the SA700D but returned it simply because it was too small. The clarity was of course better than the 27" SA950D I replaced it with because it is the same resolution in a smaller area but the colours were not. Quite similar - actually I measured the colour gamut with my colorimeter and the 700D was closer to sRGB and less broad than the 950D. The image did look a bit more saturated on the 950D using the same settings which I prefer but not everyone would - both looked really nice though.

Well got the monitor in today and have had the chance to play around with it for several hours now.

Man it's buttery smooth. Tribes Ascend and BF3 just flow so good now. I can definitely see and feel the difference between this and my u2711. I will say I already miss gaming in 1440p, but I'm still using the u2711 as my secondary monitor so it's not a big deal.

I think It's time to go crossfire now though. GW2 can't really utilize the high refresh rates when in large combat scenarios.

I thought Tribes Ascend used the Unreal engine and was locked at around 60fps.

According to FRAPS I am getting 144fps when I use V-Sync.

Edit: I lied, 122fps, and that's v-sync off with smoother frames turned on.

So how is everyone liking their VG278HE so far?

Any regrets, problems, or critiques you have about it?

I just got mine today...

Anyone have any tips for calibration?

+1

I plan to take delivery of mine on Monday. And I don't have a colorimeter....I was thinking of using the "sRGB" setting....I've been using that with all my IPS displays....how is the stock sRGB on the Asus?

It seems not bad, Im keeping it on that for now. is a TINY bit dark though in games. I actually had to turn up brightness in BF3 because i literally couldnt see anything on some of the CQ maps.

Mine says "shipping soon" from amazon. I used $3.99 1-day shipping and hopefully it'll ship tomorrow morning and arrives the next day (saturday).
Glad they have in-stock before Amazon starts charging tax on the 15th.

Anyone know if I get this monitor if I can do 3D Surround with a VG278H since it has a transmitter build in and the VG278HE is about $50 cheaper on Amazon right now. I just got the VG278H and have been trying to figure out if I wanna do 3D Surround or just 3D with some other 27" monitors.

hhmm good question. Maybe you can since only 1 transmitter is needed.

How is the 3D & Crosstalk on this monitor? Is it any better than the Samsung A750 & A950 panels?

So, if I wanted the best LCD monitor purely for gaming available atm, Samsung S27A950D or Asus VG278HE?

So I was playing tribes yesterday (runs at a constant 122fps for me) and in a moment of frustration my Asus monitor cable came unplugged. When this happened it switched over to my Dell. Now in the past I thought my Dell u2711 did well gaming but now... It was night and day. It felt robotic at 60fps. Trying to snipe with all the stuttering was nigh impossible.

tl:dr: If you play fps games get a 120+hz monitor.

the asus cable just unplugged by itself? was there an earthquake?

Well the screws for some reason don't reach far enough to screw into the card. I had a moment of "frustration".

okay just got my VG278HE

everything is super smooth...digging it so far....but one thing that I have noticed is the very bottom, there is some back light bleeding....its actually the worse I've seen from any monitor, and spans from corner to corner.....all the other monitors I've seen usually just chill in one corner and thats it....I'm debating if I should keep this or return it? Anybody else have a long stretch of backlight bleed on the bottom of their VG278HE?

Every 278HE I have seen has this, including my own. Doesn't really affect me though as I almost never have solid black screens up on my monitor for whatever reason. 99.9% of images BLB is irrelevant.

alright cool, thats kinda what I figured too....after reading other people's reviews....and yes it only happens during completely black screen...which rarely happens during gaming....if you like to watch scary movies though, this might suck for you :D

After playing for a few hours, I have noticed a dead pixel...tried rubbing it out, cleaning the panel...etc...it's definitely a bad pixel and not a piece of dust or what not

Ya, I don't watch movies on my computer. Have a home theater for that, so the BLB has virtually zero affect on me.

Does anyone have some time to spare? :D
I would be interested in getting a 120hz screen, but I need to know if it works with the only game I'm playing atm (and probably only game I'll play for quite a while): Dragon Nest. :D
Can anyone spare a few minutes and try it on the 120hz screen and see if it works at 120hz or if there is any way to make it run at 120hz? :D

got my VG278HE. Going from 60hz to 144hz (skipping 120hz) is like night and day. It's super smooth even when I move the mouse on desktop windows 7.
Playing CS GO is super smooth as well!!!

I got mine last week. The motion was very smooth but it had a dead pixel right in the dead center of the screen. It was driving me crazy. I sent it back. Coming from a 1920x1200 27 inch screen I wasn't wowed. I'm not a professional gamer so I'm going to try one of the Korean monitors.

question for vg278he owners here...The small pin behind the monitor to adjust the height, how does it work? I removed the pin to adjust it and it works just fine, but I can't lock the height. I put the pin back in and it won't lock it.

Still sort of wanting one. Can one of you guys post a pic of the backlight bleed people are mentioning along the bottom? Also, has anyone experienced any pixel defects?

I don't know about the VG278HE, but all the height adjustable stands I've owned had no way of locking the height. They've had however, a screw to adjust the spring tension. This allows for stiffer position along the slider.

The screen is spring balanced to keep it's set height, so why would you need a locking pin? Are you using your monitor to do push-ups or something?
