Torchlight 2

Preloaded and will try it out tonight after work. Looking good and enjoyed the beta weekend. Cheers to all!

Cannot get steam to finish updating. Was suspended earlier but now it just wont start :(

Can't link your Runic Games account to your Steam account to play online anyway. How annoying!

I bit. The price range was right in my wheelhouse and I can't take anymore fruitless farming in Diablo 3.

Gotta love a 12 minute download too! I'll be back later with my initial impressions.

The website to signup for an account is getting hammered. At least there is single player.

So far I am absolutely loving this game! As if I didn't already know that I would coming from having played Hellgate: London, Mythos, and Torchlight 1.

The biggest thing about the game that I love over Diablo 3? THE AUDIO. The music is actually worth keeping turned on and sounds like a callback to Diablo 1/2 (obviously, the composer Matt Uelman is here on TL2 as well), and the voice acting doesn't sound utterly stupid as it does with D3.

Already level 10 on my Berserker and having a blast.

How is the loot in the game? Will us "lowly average normal" players actually get a chance to see some rare/set/legendary (not sure what types are in TL2) items in our first play through?

Drops are quite plentiful. And you 'll get rares and magical ones from quests, if you are just somehow extremely unlucky..

I've found some rare set items, and 2 uniques and I'm now just turning 10. So yes, yes, and yes I would guess.

As far as I know, you can make a character and play single player while they sort out the online registration/servers. Once the online is up and more stable, you can then bring that same character into a multiplayer game.

Loot drops are exactly where you would like them to be even with 0% Magic Find. I'm level 12 and most of my gear is now Rare quality and I've found a few Uniques/Legendaries already.

That's good to hear, that's what really sucked the fun out of DIII for me, the loot was sooooooo geared toward the RMAH and people having to get to inferno for decent items rather then spreading it out and letting normal players find unique/rares.

I'm having a blast....

D3 was a complete let-down for me. TL2 is not.

I felt confined in D3. TL2 feels more "open".

The sheer amount of attention to detail and exploration is amazing too. Without spoiling much of anything, let me say there are definitely throwbacks to D1/2 sprinkled about the environment and do NOT implicitly trust the map... ;)

For those still attempting to create an account for online play, you can at least keep up to date via the team's twitter account here: https://twitter.com/RunicGames

Of note:

Thanks for being patient with us, we're working hard. And YES you can start playing in SP/offline and carry your same character into MP/LAN!

We have *unprecedented* demand here, be patient with us. All 33 of us are working like crazy to make it happen :)

Just curious about the effects... how do they look?

TL is a "cartoony" game, but I liked the first one. I like some of the effects I've seen in early videos, but have no idea how it looks in-person, such as the fire, lightning, blood (of which there is far more than even in D3, how ironic) etc., which looked pretty good in the vids.

Also, do the skills feel visceral?

Again, from the early videos I watched, it actually seemed about 100x's more visceral than D3, whether hitting something with a sword or a lightning bolt.

Definitely considering picking this up for the wife and I.

Level 10 Outlander here. I love this game so far.

The loot drops are so refreshing after D3. I also enjoy being able to allocate stat points.

I think I'd be enjoying this game at twice the price. I hope they allow for community mods like in the first game. If so, this game is a tremendous value. I'm probably done with D3 for a while as I just don't have the time or money to get better equipment.

Something about the control feels off, but I can't figure out what.

I dunno, sure the game is good. Is it the amazing gift to mankind everyone has made it out to be? No. It's just another game.

I'd gladly pay up to 60 for this. This game is about on par with Borderlands 2 for me.

Great so far. I was underwhelmed in the beta, but full retail is much better for me. I'm not sure what changed or could have changed, it may just be on my end. I am really enjoying it though!

What feels wrong with the controls to you? It's a point and click game...

DLing now... I gotta have something to play when I take breaks from BL2... right? ;)

Personally, I don't feel this game is going to win players over based on its looks but, rather, despite its looks. People have played D2 for years all stretched out on high-res monitors because the game is fun. If TL2 proves to be a similar kind of fun then it probably doesn't matter (as much) how it looks.

I find that everything is rather flat and dull, and kind of runs together because of a lack of detail. You can see above how the ground textures don't really have any depth: even though I'm standing at the top of a 'ramp' and you can see there are some rocks drawn on there, it really doesn't give that impression unless you stop to actually look at it like that. It's especially evident when in motion.

It's all very colorful and cartoony, yet somehow manages to seem flat and dull at the same time. There's a lack of silhouetting throughout that makes the enemies blend in more than you'd expect. If you look at the trees to the leaves to the bushes to the grass to the stones it all has the same soft-edged look - perhaps that's the price of true randomly-generated levels (simpler stuff that can be thrown together by the world generator). D3 took the "living artwork" approach, PoE took the gritty realism approach, and TL2 seems to have gone as far in the other direction as possible.

I'm not going to complain about having three ARPGs to play after so long with nothing though! :D

Need some gold? :D

Thanks for the feedback.

You know, I can sort of understand what you mean, looking at that screenshot, how it's sort of "flat", even though it's "bright and colorful"... strange mix.

I'm not looking for gritty realism like PoE (which I also play), but I do like effects to at least look good, even if in their own cartoony style.

So, is that something I could expect? Good effects, in it's own style, with elements and gore?

The latest drivers show Single GPU for SLI rendering mode for Torchlight II for me. With vsync on I don't think it'll make much of a difference but has anyone played with getting SLI to work?

I'll just say this:

I am not typically a fan of the RPG/ARPG genre. I enjoyed D3 in my first playthrough and never touched it since. To be honest, I appreciated its simplicity.

I love TL2. Glad I pre-ordered. However, I know as I progress through the game I'm going to regret how I leveled my character. I r teh n00b!

Anyone able to get to the forums or heard anything when their site will be back up?

I think it's the fact that the ai is not smart. I'm playing an Outlander and if a mob is slightly around a corner, I can click the mob to shoot it and my shots clip the corner and don't hit the mob. The game isn't smart enough to realize that I'm not hitting the mob and just keeps firing like I am, doing no damage. I have to move around a little to find the magic spot that lets me hit the mob. Same for mobs above/below a level

I am having the same problem.

I can understand why you guys want SLI enabled, I mean you did pay for the hardware, however I don't think this game is very graphically intensive.

with surround active SLI is working for me but my gpus are not too busy... in the 40 to 50% range with everything maxed @ 5760x1080... The game got choppy in a couple spots but still my gpus were not too busy so I am thinking it's maybe some kind of adaptive vsync issue (or lack thereof)... playing with options now.

It might be cool.....but I wont find out today site is down can't register.

I'm really enjoying this game. : )

Also, to everyone trying to register. You don't have to register to play offline. Your offline characters can be used to play Multi/Coop/Online. Have fun.
