The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

How many hours for level 10? I am seeing lower levels than I would expect. Maybe it's just because I am nuts, but I was estimating getting to around early twenties in the first session. Of course there is more dialogue and novelty to feast on, so leveling up takes longer.

Did you find the sound level of the melee attack very loud? Some are saying its too loud compared to every other sound, especially on headphones.

Playing casually and taking everything in and listening to all the dialog, I think I was at about 5 hours for level 10.

Has anybody figured out what to do with all the cash?

I keep going on 5K gambling streaks at the slots, but It usually only costs ~2K after selling all the won items.

I try and check vending machines often. Currently the most expensive thing is if I die, costs ~1K.

Only took a couple hours for me. I did die alot at first till I recieved my first Sniper rifle. The pistols / SMG you get initially sucks. So it wasn't too bad. But some quests were tedious and I got them out to sync so I had to fight through the same mobs multiple times.

I got to play for a few hours last night, and I think the experience was a little soured by the fact that my friend was rushing like an a-hole to every quest (he stayed up for 11 hours the night before, playing with someone else). Now he wants to skip every single side quest and just rush. I remember in BL1 I didn't rush at all with another friend, we took it really slow, and I almost want to say I enjoyed BL1 more...but we'll see how it goes.

Physx effects are pretty cool, I like the fact that there is cloth everywhere wafting realistically in the wind, and the Boom/Bewm boss fight had a TON of debris on the floor moving around and flying up into the air with the chaos, that was definitely very epic.

Yeah alot of my friends are like that too, they are just rushing the main story :/ I'm going to have to replay to get all the side quests done.

LOL not a bad glitch, though it might unbalance it a bit for you. The really seemed to have botched the whole Golden key implementation.

Took me roughly 3-4 hours to get to level 10. The leveling pace is definitely slower, currently 16 with about 9 hours played.

See this is the only thing that bugs me - I would be all over COOP like a fly on shit, but without instanced loot I only really feel OK playing with friends (I don't want to sprint to every box at the expense of someone else..). To align schedules these days can be impossible...I really wish the loot was instanced.

I didn't realize it was. Yea that would suck to fight over loot or whoever is the faster clicker / fps.

Has anybody figured out what to do with all the cash?

The vending machines never seem to have anything very good. I seem to recall being pretty cash poor early on in BL1 because I was frequently finding gun/shield/grenade mod upgrades in the machines. Or maybe I've just been lucky with some good drops early on.

(playing as zero) I recently received a purple sniper rifle from Vladof - it's stupidly high fire rate + fire damage + ~50% more damage + much larger clip than the last rifle I was using. The thing just demolishes enemies, almost too quickly! Presumably that imbalance will level off in the next level or two, but until then I'm really enjoying this..

It's a lot of fun playing with pugs. If a guy knows there is a loot chest after clearing something out, they will kick you so only they get the loot. Had this happen half a dozen times now.

Regarding my previous frame rate posts, I found that playing the game by myself, I never dip below 60fps. 2560x1440, High/Very High everything, High PhysX. The real stress seems to come from 4 players where there are much more particles, explosions, NPCs, and other players on screen.

I didn't get a chance to play with friends last night so I couldn't check my GPU usage in that situation (damn grad school....)

just did my first pug, started as a 3 man but jumped to 4. No one really shared loot drops but atleast everyone worked together and host didnt do any kicks like that so im happy lol.

I didn't look at my GPU utilization - I will tonight, as I've heard that people are seeing utilization #s in the 40-60% range. Obviously there is some GPU optimization to be done here by NVIDIA.

I found that setting "Power Management Mode" in the Borderlands 2 profile page to "Prefer Maximum Performance" helped a ton but the clocks on my 680s stayed at 700mhz instead of the normal 1158. GPU utilization still stayed low, but gameplay was smoother.

I don't want to disable or lower PhysX since, first, my rig can handle it and, second, PhysX is too awesome in this game.

For an explanation of the difference in PhysX levels see: www.geforce .com/whats-new/articles/borderlands-2-physx/ (Sorry about the link, it is being funky.)

Failed Troubleshooting Attempts:
* Integrity check of game cache (Steam)
* Forcing a dedicated GPU to PhysX

you do know that is Borderlands 1 in your pic?

even at level 1 the golden guns were meh...I was given a machine gun and a SMG and the SMG was completely worthless from the get go.

I think you should have gotten an assault rifle, SMG, and sniper rifle. The sniper rifle is really the only one worth a crap, though in fairness right out of the gate the other two are better than the gun(s) you get at the start.

But yeah, after a few levels they are pretty worthless. Just gets you going faster than hoping to find a decent loot drop at the beginning. I think I've sold all but the sniper rifle so far (just to have one if I need it).

With the Tediore guns that you throw and explode like a grenade when you reload, if you throw it before you are out of ammo it will do more damage, but you also lose all the ammo you had in that magazine. I figured that was how it must work, but I tend to reload a lot as a reflex, so I can't really get used to using those guns unless they have a tiny magazine size...otherwise I end up wasting a ton of ammo.

I will say, though, that I found a pretty nice Tediore shotgun that only has a few rounds in a mag, and the explosion does a ton of damage when you chuck it and reload. Either way it's a fun game mechanic.

Also, PhysX adds a LOT to this game. The particle blood isn't really a huge deal, but the particles flying around during combat and with bullet/explosion impact is really awesome.

I am surprised at how well this game runs on my old HDX laptop. I have only played for a few hours, ... damn work, but my initial impression is that the variety of guns is much better.

Yeah, my GF's rig is a Phenom II X4 965 BE with 8 GB RAM and a GTX 570, and it seems to run great on her machine at 1600x900 max detail (PhysX low).

Might see if we can kick PhysX to medium. High I think might be a little too much.

I resisted temptation for quite a while, only got up to 7 keys from normal play, but then needed a personal favor and offered to exchange a few chest openings for it and then IT WAS ON. I discovered to activate it all I have to do is completely exit the game and then log back in and join theirs in progress and I get a new key each time. I'm still at 7 but I've had a few upgrades... Like that rocket launcher that was as powerful as my old one, except x3, or that level 19 500+ damage corrosive sniper rifle.

Or that 433 slag sniper rifle I just snagged...

I do that too. Any time I know I've got at least a few seconds of downtime after a wave, I hit reload so I've got a fresh mag for the next wave. With the Tediore guns, you could end up literally throwing away a lot of ammo. And got to make sure you're not facing a wall or something when you do it or you end up blowing yourself up with the exploding gun.

my biggest complaint so far is the inventory/store UIs, they just suck and are confusing to use.
for quests, achievements and so on, they maxed it out. seems like every area has some, ie: telescopes, trunk keys, the inverted circle v symbol, etc. Levels are actually really creative. Humor is good too.

Guns - they appear to have taken away some of the class benefits. I used to love hunter with ammo regen mods. Not sure if they have any ammo regen any more. Hope they do.

Loot - seems like the made the good stuff more rare. Like you have a spectrum of stuff and almost all of it will suck, sometimes making it hard to keep up with the baddies.

Anyway I guess if you like to grind and are an achievement freak, this game will keep you busy for a long time.

My Gunzerker has a classmod that gives everybody regenerating ammo which is pretty nice. Sniper rifle ammo recharges a little slow, and if rocket launcher ammo recharges it is incredibly slow. It only works on whatever weapon is currently equipped too.

The major thing I dislike about the UI is that you can't really use the keyboard in conjunction with the mouse to navigate. Like when I want to switch side-to-side in the skill or inventory menus, you can't just hit the A and D keys to do it, you have to actually click the arrow. :(

Turning off UI Sway helps a fair amount, but overall they could have done better. TBH they should have just stuck with the BL1 UI but added more mouse interaction.

how far are you in the game? i dont remember seeing ammo regen class mods /gun mods until way later in the first game

Does anyone know if the Commando "Kill Skills" trigger if your turret kills something?

I'm not sure if I picked up a class mod or it's a glitch but all of my weapons have unlimited ammo....no reloading just pewpewpew until everything's dead.

:edit: it was glitched...now that was an awesome glitch! :)

Yeah, I hate the new inventory UI and wish they stuck with the BL1 UI also.

They've sacrificed usablity to make it look fancier, which really sucks.

It really reminds of me of the Skyrim UI fiasco.

After killing the second (or third?) boss, his unique weapon drop ended up being a piece of crap. That happen to anyone else?

Is it just me or does the new inventory screen look muted and washed out? It looks like the guns and items have no color and are low rez/blurry. Kind of a strange design decision, I'd prefer a more bold, high resolution u.i.

I've noticed where once or twice the textures didn't actually load. Same thing with the chests and boxes. The textures just don't load quick enough. By the time they fully load I've already grabbed the loot.

I seriously hope they fix the texture streaming in the first patch. It is WAY worse than BL1, which was already pretty bad at times.

They also need to fix the shadowing on NPCs. For some reason when you first see them in their little cutscene they look awful. Afterwards they look marginally better but it still looks weird. Plus, shadow draw distance is like, 20 feet.

EDIT: Supposedly a patch was rolled out with "minor bug fixes". No other changelog.

EDIT2: Possible texture streaming fix/improvement. Gonna try it when I get home.

That's why I like the first play through to be solo.

lvl 13 now and I've gotten some really cool weapons. The shock weapons are a life saver when you are facing those guys holding the spike shields that have nomads chained to the shields.

Think I might start a second character to solo as Zer0. Been reading about his skills and he sounds pretty awesome. My main character in BL was the Hunter, so I'd like to get my sniping on.

The guys holding the shield are the nomads. The guys chained to the front of their shields are midgets. BTW, there's a badass challenge to free the midgets by shooting the chains off. I've gotten a couple, but they usually don't survive my inaccurate firing lol.

This is really bugging me. Should I be getting drops into the low 50s when looking at large vistas that have a lot of structures on the screen?

I am talking about for instance the whole area where the midget riding a bullymong quest is at the beginning. If I go out onto the docks area and look at the big town where all the enemies are, my fps go into the 50s when panning it in my view.

I have SLI GTX 580s and an i7 950 @ 3.8ghz. All settings maxed + SMAA ultra and 1920x1200. Should this be happening? Everyone keep saying how everything is locked at 60 but it doesn't seem to be the case for me in instances like that. It's fairly noticeable and quite annoying when in firefights.

I'm slowly learning to try out various weapons. For me at least, the stats don't tell all.

For example I picked up a grenade mod that looked fairly normal, but upon trying it out, when I throw the grenade it teleports in a straight line until it finds enemies then explodes... this makes it so much more efficient overall. Had similar surprises with random guns that looked "ok" and the overall usability made them very efficient.

So that fix I posted from the Gearbox forums totally works for the texture streaming issues. No problems at all now.

Thanks also to Deads0uls for the tip about the nVidia driver. Setting to Maximum Performance solved my micro-stutter problem as far as I can tell. :D

I'm still having some oddities I think. Like at one point I was fighting a boss, only a few characters in the area, framerate started dipping into the 40s and 50s. At one point after I killed the boss I stopped moving the mouse/looking around. Game was stuck at 50fps. It stayed like that until I moved around again, then it jumped back to 60.

Here's the thing, and I mentioned this before. When it drops down to 50ish, the game gets choppy. Now why would it get choppy/laggy if the framerate is still high?
