The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

IIRC, Evga's tool showed the clocks on the GPU set to full speed but utilization only rose to 60% at the highest.
I didn't look at my GPU utilization - I will tonight, as I've heard that people are seeing utilization #s in the 40-60% range. Obviously there is some GPU optimization to be done here by NVIDIA.

That's interesting.....
Running the game on highest settings, except physx, on my Crossfire system, I get 95% utilization...in Eyefinity.... 5670 x 1200....AMD got it right for once.

Seems to be a problem with backing up the game.

It only backs up a bunch of strangely named files, with no install.exe etc like a normal Steam back up.

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Also, just as with the download, it's only 5GB in size, so it appears that somehow the game is actually only 5GB in size. However, that doesn't seem possible, so I'm wondering what the deal is with that.

It also installed some files (EULA and install dll files) on a separate storage drive as opposed to my main drive. Game runs fine, but that should not have happened, though I've had a couple of games do that in the past.

not sure about the back up but the size is correct.

the dumbest thing I have seen in the game so far is the part where claptrap says he cant go upstairs. lol, what the hell? he jumps up on roofs and off of buildings so I thought that just seemed like a stupid thing to write into the game.

It's supposed to be funny. You are his minion.

Curses! Obvious-man has pointed out the the farcical irrationallity of this game, now everyone will know!

I think something is screwy with Physx, Im going to try it tonight on low.

I'm loving this FAR FAR more than Borderlands one which was fail in my opinion with its horrible port.

This one is more colorful (I don't want games that repeat Quake 2's color range) , funnier , more guns (awesome) and the co-op works great. There is an actual story line now that you give a shit about (although not a lot to be fair) and Claptrap is funnier than ever.

And finally the last and BEST part of Borderlands 2? LOTS of PC options. The first had like none , you couldn't hardly adjust anything. Gearbox listened and it shows. The game runs great , looks great and I'm getting all of my $60 out of it and these days its rare that a big budget title is truly worth its asking price.

Well done Gearbox.

You weren't here for the $36 promotional deal that's going on still, until the 25th? :D

for real?? BL1, minus the horrible FOV (which was fixable), was fantastic. It wasn't even close to a horrible port, hell, it was pretty hard to tell it was a port at all.

Yes, I have to say playing through some of the main quest now, there was a part where I said, "What?!? An actual plot/storyline?! Nice!" :D

The only thing I really don't like is the vehicle controls. I mean come on controlling my direction by the mouse?

You can bind forward and reverse but not left and right? Surely that can't be difficult to code.

borderlands 2 is way better than the first... i never really liked in the first one , but the second... i wish i could take a week off to play it :D

Heh, just asked a bunch of ex-WOW guildies if they were playing, and they're all playing on consoles. I just made the comment of "FPS on consoles, really?" and the response was:

Lol....I understand saying some games are better on CPU. But trying to argue CPU for FPS games? Seriously?

Jesus...I understand preference in gaming styles, but to not understand the inherent mechanical advantages... :(

So...idiots stay idiots. Life lesson learned.

You should show them Borderlands maxed out on a Modern PC side by side with a console... or even better, Battlefield 3.

It'd be pointless. Some people just don't get it. Which is fine by me, I'll enjoy my superior hardware and gameplay experience.

Is anyone playing this on an AMD 7750 @ 1900 x 1200?

I doubt my card can handle this game so I may have to go the PS3 route. :(

Same. I have gotten too used to hitting 'E' the moment I see a fancy chest.

Ditto. I found the golden chest by accident when I logged back into the game yesterday, didn't even dawn on me until after I hit E what it was. Oh well. Got a neat sniper rifle and combat rifle. They'll last a few levels I'm sure.

Pretty much. So far his argument for consoles being better for FPS games is that pro leagues have console FPS games...and that using a mouse/kb is "out-teching/buying skills".

Eh...the thing I've seen with a lot of "gamers" who got into gaming solely through WOW have a skewed/limited view of gfx/gaming/computers in general. Probably shouldn't drag this OT, sorry, was just boggled at the response.

Back on topic: I meant to get a SS, I'll have to go back, but there is an area with a large bank of computer screens, one of which has a BSOD on it with a pretty hilarious message. When I get off work I'll post it up.

Agreed. A port but a damn good one. I think he needs to try Rage to get some proper "horrible port" reference.

Can anyone confirm that Zero´s melee attack sounds are stupendously loud comparatively to all other in game sounds, or is one dude on gearbox forums way off here? Mostly looking for answers from headphone users.

Does a pair of 6950's @ 1920x1080 count? Should be fine, you can always adjust video settings, draw distance, decals, etc

You didn't play Borderlands at launch did you? It wasn't a good port. It wasn't terrible, but it was not great. Gamespy alone is enough to call it not-good.

Maybe slightly so? Until you've mentioned it, I've never thought of it. Using Corsair HS-1 headset.

I'm so torn on the character to play as. I like Zero's model the best, but I heard melee is crap in the game and you never get any kind of new melee weapons and compared to the sniping tree it's not worth it.

However i don't really like sniping, not sure if it even seems viable to play zero without using sniping.

Axton I'd like to use but I'm not a fan of turrets.

The Gunzerker dude I love his kit the best, spraying bullets, dual guns, but why on earth did they make him so short? Just seems strange.

Just can't find a character that I like the model of + the abilities it seems. I loved Mordaci in BL1, wish there was still a "pet" class like that.

If you like pet class, just go for Axton. The turrets are fun. Then just play the Mechromancer when it comes out.

I did not have any idea how to play BL 1 when I played the first time and just randomly chose Mordecai. after later trying the others, I realized I had chosen the right one for me the first time. lol, I loved sending out the bird.

in BL 2, I just picked Salvador because the others really did not interest me. I love sniping but that Zero's skill is deception which does not look interesting at all.

Axton's turret is totally BAMF. I was getting my butt kicked by Captain Flynt, then I remembered I had the turret. Tossed it out, ducked behind some cover and then popped out to scoop my loots.

I cannot wait for dual turrets with rocket pods and shields.

It is certainly playable on my 6870 @ 1920x1080 if that helps him. I did turn off a few things to make it a little smoother, but it more or less maxed itself out. That said, I think I'm going green shortly.

I got Zero up to level 10, but just started up Axton and will probably play him instead.

Something about the melee hologram just doesn't feel right. I feel like I am not playing Borderlands, but some other strange game where I run around and try to get behind guys to whack them with a sword every 30 seconds, then run like holy hell away from them after I pop out of stealth.

Yeah, I think instead of making Zero the classic "ninja/stealthy" assassin they shoudl have made him more like Raiden or something, badass killing machine with style.

I like how the turret actually kills stuff unlike in BL1. Have you guys decided on a single turret or dual turret setup?

Going to try single maxed turret (Guerrilla tree) first. You can always re-spec.

You can definitely play Zero as a non melee or sniping character. His middle tree, not certain the name, gives bonuses to standard damage, crit, reloading speed, etc, and gives more bonuses while you're in deception. It's an interesting tree; I'm around level 11 and have been going sniping, but I was thinking of switching over.

ya I went commando and love it. Turret kicks some ass, current I run a sniper rifle and machine gun that fires explosive rounds and it works awesome.

I kinda like how weapon skill doesn't require you to use the same gun type over and over anymore. It was annoying if you got a really cool weapon of a different type in BL1 but you didn't really want to use it because you leveled up in other weapons so much.

i'm full-sniping tree with zer0 and i found his deception skill to be quite useful. if you're a terrible aim (like me) and find yourself being swarmed by 3-5 enemies up close, popping the shadow and then gaining some distance makes encounters a lot more manageable.
