The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Used one of my golden keys last night. Got a sick shotgun that melts face even at medium ranges. Pretty happy. Saving my other one for high level.

Really enjoying the game. I have to echo the feelings of the inventory screen, I don't find it to be terribly exciting and it's clunky to navigate.

So I seriously hope this gore issue is a bug and not a censorship thing. Would be extremely disappointed in Gearbox if they censored it without the option of full gore.

yeah after 6 hours I still cant get the inventory screen down. it just does not feel intuitive at all. also I hate that staticky background sound when you are on those screens.

do all early guns suck in terms of aiming down the sights?...it's hard for me to aim correctly in the early going...hopefully later guns will improve the aiming aspect
I finished a mission earlier at level 6 where I picked up a Fine Pistol (or something) that had a scope on it. As Zero, specced into Sniping, I can't wait to give this thing a whirl later today.

I'm all for headshots completely decapitating someone, but its absence isn't going to lessen my enjoyment of the game.

I got to level 11 last night. did part of the main quest and then just went venturing around for a couple of hours, then went back to the main quest.
The best weapon I have found so far is an SMG that can cause the baddies to catch fire.
I wasn't going to use it at first since the damage was only 23 and my other guns were 48 and 120, but the fire causes a lot of extra damage.

Some of the bosses/quests have been pretty challenging so far. There is a quest where you need to kill 3 different assassins, and you get extra exp if you kill each one with a different weapon - pistol, melee, shotgun. Definitely made it fun to try and do so.

The most I've died however, 5-6 times before I cheesed it and kited him to a vehicle, was Dr. Mercy. Those dudes who carry shields can really suck when you're a sniper.

It looks totally absurd when you kill a guy and large gibs fly all over, but the guy is still intact.

It's not really that bad imo. It's pretty simple. Did you see my other post?

Also, I recommend this to everyone. TURN OFF THE UI SWAY

It stops all the menus from moving and makes it look nicer imo.

One thing I noticed which I'll share, if you click on your equipped weapon in the inventory It will pop up the stats on the left side and give you the weapons in your inventory on the right, making for an easier compare.

I thought he was talking about the gun reload times.
Ooops, that's my mistake. I read that totally wrong :p

My bad.

I've noticed that reload times on sniper rifles are AWFUL, but the rest of the guns seem more or less what I was used to in BL1.

I really like how the in-game "achievements" are implemented. It's kind of fun to do things in different ways with the possibility of a real in-game reward.

if this is correct i have defective parts.

under really intense battles my fps dropped to 30 with a single gtx 670 and a stock i52500k
It really depends where you are in the game. My i7 860 stock with geforce 480 saw it drop to 25 with physX high everything maxed. I notice that people don't always tell the truth as well or the people that don't measure aren't as sensitive to fps drop. I saw a test setup for phsyX with a 660ti and the other comp running a 9800 gtx. The 660ti machine dropped to lower 30's according the fraps in intense scenes with phsyX. Then again this guy does have his other parts oced to hell.

that was a plain 660 not a 660ti. not that it makes much difference but just sayin...

I get dips into the 40s on my setup (see sig, basically 4.4GHz i7 930 and GTX 680 SLI) in intense fights. 2560x1440, all settings maxed High/Very High, PhysX High, FXAA On.

Seems it is bugged for a lot of people. Here's a couple screens that someone posted in the Gearbox thread on the topic, taken by the buddy of one of the posters there who apparently has full dismemberment when using explosive based weapons.

Funny thing is, I've also got some explosive weapons that have never caused any of this, even when blasting lower level enemies. The dead bandits and such are always completely intact, and even their death animations are the canned animations rather than any of the ragdoll effects that are supposed to be present.

Had a panic attack last night. I kept getting a crazy mouselook stutter and couldn't find a fix...only to discover my wife's wireless internet streaming upstairs was screwing with my wireless mouse signal.
Having a blast so far. More of the same, but I have no problem with that at all.

Glad you figured out the problem, but seriously get some corded gaming mouse action going on in your home ;)

Same here. Its an immersion killer. So far it is still not known if this is a bug, censorship or lack of overpowered weapons so early into the game. EDIT: Seems to be a gun issue, should be no censored version..

Here is the main thread on Gearbox forums.

Latest drivers and proper FSB ratio? A little scary to hear this on such a powerful system.

the dumbest thing I have seen in the game so far is the part where claptrap says he cant go upstairs. lol, what the hell? he jumps up on roofs and off of buildings so I thought that just seemed like a stupid thing to write into the game.

It's supposed to be funny. You are his minion.

I didn't realize about the golden keys and opened the chest around level 5-7. got 2 purple weapons that i don't use anymore at level 10

I did the same thing. There wasn't a warning or notice or anything...

Well i stand corrected. The point is, there is nothing defective about that guys system. People get way too hung up on always maintaining 60+ frames per second instead of just enjoying the game.

So far, love the game. And love the dev's for making it a PC game with full eyefinity support, everything from fov to the hud being centered on your middle screen! So far running the game with almost everythign maxed out except af at 8x and ambient occlusion off im getting an avg fps of 45 at 5760x1080 on my 6950, not bad.

Even in those screens there is no decapitation, though. But yeah, it is hopefully just a bug, because I can use a crappy shotgun at level 5 and get gibs flying out, but no dismemberment or decapitation. Seems extremely off.

It does come as a pop up, or at least it did on mine - something along the lines of the golden boxes containing elite loot that will vary depending what level you are when you open it. Or do you mean specifically when you go to open the box, that it didn't pop up with a message saying "are you sure"?

he did not seem hung up on getting 60 fps per se but was simply looking at that benchmark and was worried if his system was performing correctly.

***READ***

So i finally got this running like a mother fucking CHAMP!!! (rig in sig)

Everyone needs to go into steam and verify the integrity of BL2 if you havnt (this morning it needed to re-download 500+MB), and then download the new Physx driver/installer from Nvidia (even if you have ATI) install, restart. NEW Crossfire profiles released from ATI yesterday have BL2!! install, restart. Restart again... for good measure....

And bam, everything maxed, and im getting 100+ constant fps through anything, including the crazy fire fights. Enjoy. Now i cant friggen wait to get off work...

I will try this. The frame rate drop into the teens is bothersome. There is no reason that frame rate should be that low on my rig

I must have missed any type of warnings

It says that about the Golden Key(s) right at the start of the game. I haven't gotten to Sanctuary yet (haven't had much time to play) but the Badass Rank tokens should have a confirmation as well.

FSB ratio?

I am using the newest drivers available, 306.23.

I think part of the problem is that the game downclocks when I am getting 60fps with Adaptive Vsync on (which is most of the time), and then when it suddenly gets much more demanding it doesn't ramp up fast enough. I am going to set the Power Management to "Maximize Performance" tonight and see how it goes.

IIRC, Evga's tool showed the clocks on the GPU set to full speed but utilization only rose to 60% at the highest.

When you open the box. There really wasn't anything that obviously indicated that this was THE box.

Yeah they should've made it pop up and say "Use Golden Key to open the chest?" Yes/No

Seems to be a problem with backing up the game.

It only backs up a bunch of strangely named files, with no install.exe etc like a normal Steam back up.

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Also, just as with the download, it's only 5GB in size, so it appears that somehow the game is actually only 5GB in size. However, that doesn't seem possible, so I'm wondering what the deal is with that.

It also installed some files (EULA and install dll files) on a separate storage drive as opposed to my main drive. Game runs fine, but that should not have happened, though I've had a couple of games do that in the past.

my 670s are very busy on the gpu hovering in the 90s %wise but mem utilization is low 800m on both.. I put PhysX on high frame rates are still good @ 5760x1080 but I haven't had a lot of game time... hopefully tonight I can spend more time tweaking everything to max and seeing what happens..

but I do not seem cpu limited as my cards are both working hard and performance feels smooth..
