I downloaded Borderlands free from PS+ and have been really enjoying it so I decided to pre-order Borderlands 2. I don't usually like to do pre-orders because they really don't amount to much, however with Borderlands 2 one of the bonuses is the Mecromancer character who will be $10 when it releases otherwise next month. I figured I would really like to save that $10 and I will likely be playing the game in the next few weeks, so why not.

Who else is looking forward to it? I have a coworker that I have been wanting to co op with online but we keep missing each other.

Can't wait preordered the collectors edition with the bobblehead in june, and beat the first one twice lol. :D

If you preorder from the Microsoft store you get $10 plus a code for 1600 xbl points. Just an fyi.

I'm looking forward to it (on PC), but since they're doing a "season pass" I'll wait for the inevitable GOTY edition that should end up on Steam around Holiday sales this year; if that's not out by then, I'll just buy the standalone (during the same sales) and add the DLC later once that's on sale as well.

I thought Borderlands was great. The amount of weapons and the somewhat variety in them was awesome. Wasn't much to the story, really, but I never go into an FPS expecting a 30-40hr SquareEnix type romp. I do plan on playing some more BL just to try the other 3 classes out (I completed the game with Mordecai, solo). Incendiary sniper rifle + corrosive SMG and shotgun were my weapons of choice. :)

As far as I'm concerned - more characters + more quests to do = all win.

I enjoyed most of the DLC for Borderlands, so I'm hoping they'll put forth the same effort in 2

Anyone know if they fixed the coop in this game? The horizontal spit screen and ui was horrible to play with my brother on the xbox version of borderlands

I think time will tell on that. I haven't read any reviews that really discussed much of that stuff. I hope the network issues that I've had troubles with on the PS3 version will go away.

I ordered it for 360, haven't read up about it much though so it will be interesting to see how all the classes are with their new abilities.

I'm completely foreign to this series but I have to admit the hype and art style are appealing to me... Is it just another FPS or is there really something more here?

I can speak as a player/finisher of BL1 but I don't know what has changed for BL2 regarding weapons and attributes....although I would figure that more was added. ;)

A million guns. More than that. Potentially limitless.

Here's a caveat, I'll say it before a naysayer does....
Basically you have certain weapon classes (SMG, shotgun, pistol/magnum, sniper rifle, RPG). Each of those has attributes, from reload speed to clip capacity to damage...most also having an elemental property (corrosive [acidic], incendiary [fire], shock [harmful to enemies with armor/shield]....I think there's also a lightning based one as well, or I'm missing another one at least).

On the surface, it means you're going to run into combos that you've seen before. I can't deny this....you might run across [throwing a random number out there] 100 corrosive weapons in a single run/complete game. Odds are, those 100 will have different attributes and won't necessarily break down into 20 each, if we're considering 5 weapon classes (and there might be more than that now in BL2). In my complete run of BL1 I found only a few sniper rifles with elemental properties, several were incendiary, and a few were shock. I don't recall finding any corrosive sniper rifles.

The point I'm trying to make is, the classes and properties are somewhat recycled, but the variances are there....you are not likely to find 2 of the same weapon in the game, at least not in 1 playthrough. Keep in mind, when you see the weapon chests, you get giddy like a five year old on Christmas morning. Or maybe that's just me. :D I definitely made a point to run around and check everywhere I could for chests, and I did not leave the area until I was sure I'd checked them all and verified that what was in the chest was no better than what I already had. As you go further in the game you can also carry more 'spare' weapons, and you can sell them for more money. You also have grenades too in the game, with various properties and powers.

The game also has a great level up/experience system. BL1 had some "down time" with a lot of running around, at least until you got all the car stations and could warp around the map. Supposedly BL2 fixes this and the game supposedly has a better, faster/harder pace to it with minimal 'boredom'. That being said I still loved BL1 even though some people did not. It's like a shooter/RPG fan's wet dream.

One thing I love (that I'm pretty sure is also in the console versions) is a very clever way of handling in-game achievements.
You get rewarded for killing enemies in certain ways, blowing up a certain number of tanks, reloading after every shot, etc. Some of them are asinine and some are difficult. However, what happens when you do them is that you get a permanent reward of your choice. It might be better aiming, more damage, more health, or several other things.
It makes playing the game in a creative way rewarding, and not just so you have more XBL achievement points.

That sounds really fun. I have been doing that stuff in Borderlands just for the XP bonus you get for some of them.

I picked my copy of Borderlands 2 up today on my lunch break. It will be hard not to jump right into it tonight without finishing the first one. Maybe I can come back to the first one...

Is there a special way to turn in missions so that the entire party gets the reward? It seems like sometimes not everyone gets the screen to pick their reward. They haven't already completed the mission.

I want to add to want Zero2dash said:
The best thing about this series is it knows it is a Shooter and doesnt get in the way. It throws enough rpg elements in it, a lot personality and charm, with a messed up sense of humor, to make it more than a plain run and gun shooter.

If you ever played World of Warcraft, take the questing and exp system, then mix it with serious sam or Unreal Tournament. Viola, there you go.

While the gameplay is definitely shooter-based, the premise and structure of the game are pretty close to Diablo.
The randomized drops, chests, enemies, etc. are all very similar to what you'd expect from Diablo...only in FPS format.

if you can get enough cash, use the slot machines at moxxie's for good stuff.
