I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit. My problem is something similar to this:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com.../thread/a8a262c0-1bcb-4a14-af29-61377e077184/
-in this thread Jodey Grist seems to be having the same problem.

Basically when I'm normally on my desktop if I click open a folder or go to control panel -> sounds and "test" the "Start Navigation" sound it sounds like just a really brief and abrupt click. Like I hear just a millisecond of it.

When I have something using sound in the background (be it flash, VLC, itunes, etc) then the click is the normal sound that you're supposed to hear. Even if I have VLC running and Paused (not stopped!) it will sound normal.

This is driving me absolutely batty...does anyone have any idea how I might be able to fix this? Anyone else with a Xonar seeing the same thing?

well i didnt really fix the problem but in the event someone googles for the same thing here is my current workaround

Go to your microphone and enable "listen to this device" - this will count as something constantly "playing" in the background and fix the click to make it sound normal. now since you probably dont want to hear your mic constantly go to your volume controls and turn the mic all the way down to 0. like i said this bug apparently doenst care if other sound is actually being made - it only seems to care that something else is being "broadcast" at the same time. so this is a temporary fix.

if anyone has a real fix i'd still love to hear it.

also the damn xonar dg won't detect my front jack.

I have a Xonar D1 and noticed this too..
But now it's gone and I'm not exactly sure how that was!

DG should detect front audio jack (D1 does not manual change via Asus Audio centre)

is there any way to have both jacks playing at the same time? I have my spekaers plugged into my front one and I just turn the speakers on with the volume control when I need them. Normally they are off though and I listen to my headphones from the rear port.

I have this exact problem!! Tried ASUS drivers, unified, nothing works. The windows "click" sound gets cut off if you don't have any other sounds playing for about 10 seconds. Anyone run into a fix? This is so frusterating!

Has anyone ever found a "real" solution to this?
It happens with my X-fi Xtreme music and my Asus Xonar DG.

The microphone "listen to this device" works but still seems like more of a "workaround" then actually solving the problem.

BTW: both pc's have a clean install of Win7 64bit.
