Shots Fired, School Locked Down After Theft of iPhone

I haven't even seen the series that started in 2005 yet. I guess when I meant the latest one, I meant the latest Doctor Who remake that I actually knew existed.

Oh accursed rock, why must you be so nice to live under? :)

Don't feel bad. I didn't hear of Torchwood either until this weekend. We picked it at random after we finished the 3 episodes of BBC's Sherlock.

I've never seen Dr Who in my life - new or old.

I love the new BBC Sherlock series and despise the fact that I have to wait an entire year to get another dose!

And then there's this guy...

Don't get too excited about the men versus women thing. People who think the way they do now will probably not change because of the efforts of a person on a forum. Let's talk about cats instead. :)

Unfortunately, that's true of just about every topic. Very few people ever want to discuss things in a rational manner. 90% of the posts end up being made by the same 2% of the forum population that just wants to argue and troll when certain topics come up. It inevitably turns into soapboxing, posturing, and an insult contest that goes so far off topic that the thread gets locked.

U can haz cheezburger nao. ;)

Evidence please.

Almost no state POST forces the same requirements on women as men.. in most cases women have no hard enforced physical requirement or its only a fraction of the male requirement..

My experiernce most female Officers are not as useful as males especially in fights and pursuits.

I have known 3 decent all around female officers out of a couple dozen I have worked closely with in my career.

Granted plenty of useless males officers but the ratio with women is way worse in terms of good to bad. Way to many are just quota hires and worse many quota promotions later.

imo

Torchwood is for people who enjoyed Dr Who but felt it just wasn't gay enough.

and they appropriately responded in force.
By tripping on herself and letting an errand round go off by an elementary school?

Yeah, I suppose in San Fransisco that would be considered tactically sound. Texas, maybe not so much.

from article said:
The fleeing suspects ran down a stairwell near St. Paul's Catholic Church on Valley Street at about 6:50 a.m., Shyy said. "With an officer in pursuit, the suspect turned toward the officer with his hand concealed near his torso," he said. "That is when the officer discharged her firearm."

The officer missed and twisted her ankle while chasing the suspect, who got away. Officers, however, detained the second man on Church Street, Shyy said.

Seems to me the tripping happened after discharging her gun - she fired and missed, then commenced chasing the suspect and tripped in the process.

You're twisting the order of event to suit your hypothesis against women cops.

Really?

This is about as chauvinist of a remark I have seen all day. You should be ashamed of yourself. I am very disappointed that something like this is posted on this site.

Women are our equals, not just some ditzes worried about nails and makeup, and make for some damned fine officers, in many cases exercising much better judgement than their douchebag rambo-wannabe male colleagues.

This is the kind of off-color insensitive remark, that if made out in industry, someone would lose their job over. It's simply unacceptable.

You're acting like you're surprised that this happens here.

I fear a woman in uniform as much as a man. You do yourself a disservice by thinking a woman cop is weak. ANY human is dangerous when properly trained, empowered and armed. You come back with respectable statistics on woman drawing their weapon more then men, and we'll listen. Until then your anecdote is charming but useless.

Actually he's closer to the truth than you think. I took law enforcement classes in college and our instructors were all pretty much in agreement that female officers are more likely to shoot a male suspect than a male officer is. It's not a sexist observation, it's because of perceived threat.

A female officer dealing with a male suspect that has a 5 or 6 inch in height (meaning greater reach) and 50 to 100 pounds in mass "advantage" is going to see the bigger opponent as a greater threat to her safety than a male officer on equal footing in regards to size.

Now, this isn't about armed suspects. This is regarding unarmed suspects.

In short, if you get pulled over by a cop (and you're a guy) and you start getting obstinate, disrespectful and rowdy, a female cop is more likely to break leather than a male cop. The male cop is more apt to attempt physically restraining you, whether it's with a baton or fists or some form of LTL device.

A girl does it, we tell her to go back into the kitchen. A guy does it, we tell him to go back into the kitchen, and also learn how to squat to pee. Lovely.

At least she attempted to go after them. It's very very rare for a female to go on foot pursuit. She must be new lol.

LOL.. you nailed it. Torchwood can still be fun, not quite as much as dr who, but still lots of fun. They just need to tone it down a hair.

well the fact is trained equivalently doesn't mean stronger/bigger person will come on top, sometimes it takes one's ability to endures punishment, in such case this really doesn't apply.
Umm, no, it pretty much does. Other than some very rare exceptions or in the case where the bigger person is bigger simply because they're fatter, bigger person will come out on top if trained equivalently almost always. You know how basically all forms of combat sports have weight divisions? Or how basically all sports have separate mens and womens events instead of mixing them? And many sports that are physically intensive tend to be dominated by bigger stronger people? It's because being bigger, all other things being equal, typically is a sign that you can endure more punishment while simultaneously being more punishing :p

This thread is now about Doctor Who, Torchlight, and punishment....

All it needs is a sonic SCREWdriver and pretty much nothing sensible will be accomplished.

Speaking of punishment... Anonymous sources informed me of a sudden lack of posts from a certain User in this thread. We should probably all banned together to go back on topic. ;)
