If you want to know just how popular Amazon’s Kindle Fire is, just try to buy one. According to Amazon, the Kindle Fire is completely sold out and looks like there will be no more….of that particular model that is. Amazon is looking to grow their tablet business in more ways than one: Look for the next installment of the Kindle to be a 10” tablet: The Kindle Fire 2

"We’re grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon."

Looks like they under estimated how many they would sell before the new model was available.

I can’t help but to feel this is more of a marketing maneuver than a supply chain issue. I mean, what company would simply decide to stop producing a product when they have consumers with cash in hand? I can’t see a company like Amazon not being able to get the Fire back in production as soon as stocks hit a low..... Something is fishy.....

This,

I still havent purchased a Fire either, but I will gladly pre-order the Fire 2 when its available, a 10" reader tablet with my subscription to DC Comics ;)

likely eliminateing the old one so they canup the price without havign to worry about being undercut by their own product.

predicting a higher price and not as much success with fire 2.0

Especially when they know for a fact that Amazon will simply refuse to produce more when they see fit.

that's stupid. they sell out just to make a big announcement.
I guess they don't need to sell anymore, because with that announcement, the stock went up a little, more than making up any supposed lost sales

Blah.. I was never interested in a Kindle and after reading this, I wouldn't buy one based on principle.

Not surprising. My second cousin has one and she's like 11 and my other cousins want one as well.

Before the Nexus 7 tablet it was the best value in town really. But with the Nexus 7 against it , the Fire is last gen considering how powerful the Tegra 3 chip is.

The Fire is still a good value if you can get one of their refurbs. I bought two, on two separate occasions when they were sold for $139. Same 1 year warranty as a new model, so no real downside for me. I've used mine for about 6 months now with no issues and my son has been using his about half that time with no problems. I do agree this announcement seems like marketing fluff, but keep your eyes on deal sites for refurb models if you or anyone you know is still looking for this model... ;)

better safe than sorry.

than again they might be cooking something in their kitchen, they'll make sure people pre-order KF2 asap/buy it faster after launch/reviews that way they'll make little more since it'll be higher in price for sure.

The sold out Fire was a cost reduced tablet and doesn't have either the massive volume or price flexibility of the iPad. Selling out rather than making a price cut was a good strategy for Amazon, and may be disappointing for some consumers expecting an EOL price drop.

Amazon's strategy for these tablets as content shopping vehicles doesn't suggest a big price hike is coming. With improved specs, I wouldn't be surprised by minor price bumps... or that the prices just stay the same as the prior model. There is too much competition in the Android tablet space to jack up prices.
