So just realised that Dead Space 2 has fucking activation limits. Just uninstalled the game and it asks me to deauthorise this computer so I can get an activation back...but no, the fucking thing "couldn't" connect to the server.

Were these servers ever online? Did they even fucking exist? What a load of shit. Anti-consumer to the max.

Plague if you reinstall the game their servers should recognise that you still have an existing authorisation for your PC, so long as you have not formatted or changed your internal hardware. You can then deauthorise before uninstalling again to ensure you don't encounter the same problem.

Just thought. Dead Space 2 never did a 5 install thing for me...i've reinstalled it about 7 times (on the same hardware, but with 2 different system HDDs and different RAM) and it's never once mentioned anything.

yes you do

Like whaaat? :p

Thanks for that. Looks like I will have to reinstall the game, then deauthorise, then uninstall, then install my new graphics card when it turns up, then reinstall again. What a joke!

It does have activation limits. There is an authorization tool included in the game's folder. It has worked fine for me when I used it a couple of weeks ago (had to re-install Windows). However, I did have a problem with EA's Authorization Tool (the one which manages all EA games) that would never work.

Regardless, these hardware DRMs are a hindrance. There is no guarantee we'll be able to manage authorizations later down the line if ever the plug gets pulled on the server. Further, it's a pain to have to track each game among all you own with which DRM it uses, what tool you need, etc.

For those interested, this site can help you track which game uses what on Steam: The Big List of 3rd Party DRM on Steam.

Damn PC elitists. You should be happy they let you lick their boots!

I am so glad BF3 (and to my shame SWTOR) are the only games I own that has the EA tag right now. I expect Ubishit to have this still, but EA has this crap? Do they WANT people to pirate their shit? Steam is the only DRM that they need.

do i have to be specific really?...

Why in gods name would an Origin title have activation limits? Isn't it tied to your account? Thats retarded.

Dead Space 2 isn't an Origin title. You can get it on Origin, but it's not one of those Origin required games.
