I'll be getting a GTX 680 soon.

I currently have a GTX 570 which plays all my games perfectly at 1920x1080 (single monitor).

What games will stress a GTX 680.

i5-2500K @ 4.8Ghz with 8gb system memory in case that makes a diff.

the games already mentioned above and Witcher 2, Crysis Warhead with 8x MSAA, Shogun 2 with 4x MSAA, Batman AC with 8x MSAA. Maxing out these games even at 1080p and running at a steady 60 fps is not so easy.

Ahh, finished Wticher 2 on my 570 some time ago. Good game.

I'll give Shogun 2 a try, heard it's good.

I have Skyrim Dawnguard. Might try some uber tweaks to see if it looks different.

Metro 2033 with Very High settings and tesselation enabled with 4x MSAA is a very difficult setting to run at 60 fps. With DOF turned on it gets even worse. So I suggest you try with DOF turned off and MSAA 4x.

Depends, most games at 1920x1200 (or 1920x1080) will run just fine even with a GTX460 at normal settings.

My two stepsons have a GTX470 on 1920x1200 and GTX460 on 1920x1080 respectively, and I have yet to find a game they cant run well at reasonable settings.

Once you start upping the settings, and resolution though, that's when a GTX680 really becomes useful.

I game on a 2560x1600 monitor. With just about double the number of pixels compared to a 1920x1080 screen, this really ups the need for GPU power.

One of the few games I play is Red Orchestra 2. With a GTX680 and all settings except AA turned up max, its just sufficient to stay at 60fps most of the time, but occasionally it drops down to 55fps or so.

If you click the above for the full size, you'll see the kind of results I'm getting. Minor dips are in game, major dips are map changes. (the graphs and teamspeak windows are on my side screens)

In other, more graphically intense games, one 680 may not be enough.

I have considered getting a second one, but its a lot of money for the occasional 5 more fps I want, but it would be really nice to never dip below 60fps...

I still feel like for the vast majority of titles, anything over a GTX560 Ti is pretty much overkill for 1920x1080...

Metro 2033 stresses my GTX 670 in SLI at 1440p, I'm getting an average of 40 FPS or lower at max settings.

Sleeping Dogs with High Rez Texture Pack + Highest level of in-game SSAA turned on will stress it

As mentioned, plenty of games out there that will stress it. It is sad because even getting a 120hz setup to run at 1080p on a single card is still a pipe dream with most games.

Are you looking for games that are enjoyable to play, or just games to benchmark with?

If you max Skyrim out correctly, it should not only stress two GTX 680's in just 1080p, but will also eat VRAM like a fat kid in a pie-eating contest. Observe:

1. Indoor Area
2. Outdoor Area
3. Winterhold. Notice the GPU usage.
4. Over 3100 MB VRAM in use

If you're about to get a GTX 680, the 4GB variant will come in handy in the case of Skyrim.

Why mod's do you have that you are only getting like 60 fps on an SLI 680 setup...? I have a single 680 and I have all the possible mods I could find to enhance graphics and followed Nvidia's tweak guide and I never drop under 65-70 fps..

Then why upgrade? Maybe there is something better you can spend $500+ on? :p

I love fast computers and all, but I have to ask the question.

are you using ENB? if not then why even mod it ? hahaha

It's more for future games than current games.

Just got popped in my 680 today and it's working :)

I took most of the STEP Guide's mod suggestions, and opted for the highest resolution texture replacements, most of them offer 2k and 4k resolutions.

I also enabled 8xAA, 16xAF, and 8x Transparency AA.

The 60 FPS is capped by "Half-Refresh Rate Adaptive VSync" in the NVidia control panel. I did some research and have personally confirmed that the game clock and physics goes wack past 60 FPS. Thread Here.

While NVidia tweak guides cover a few good parameters, there are many more that hasn't been covered. I went into Skyrim.ini and SkyPrefs.ini to change the draw distances and memory budget of many objects, including trees, grass, and actors. It's hard to track down all the sources I used to understand the variables, but a good launch point would be to research this .CFG Maker and Google what each variable does (and know their limitations). It's important that the variables limitation be understood lest you want to unwittingly destabilize your game.

With the proper modification from the community, and changing parameters beyond the superficial "Ultra" preset, Skyrim will actually be one of the most power-demanding and best looking PC games to date.

I'm playing Metro 2033 on my new 680 and i'm getting fairly low fps averaging around 40ish.

Even though it is stressing my 680, visually you don't seem to be getting much for this effort, am I correct?

Crysis 2 looks way better and runs much better.
